    Excellent EXCELLENT JOB my friend! I have a 2011 Mercedes SLK 350 which I refer to as my "mid life crisis" car that I use to zip around the Vegas area every now and then (I live just on the outskirts). Anyways, I would have never considered doing my ride with a product that would definitely be such a radical transition but after seeing a newer model Mercedes C63-S Cabriolet done with it (saw it in town) AND THEN coming across your videos it may be in the near future for mine! Hey, I gotta say, I truly admire your patience brother! That is one area I have been working on for 50+ years! Keep up the good work. Regards, D. Scott

    Thank you so much! I recently visited Vegas for the first time in my life just a couple years back when my girlfriend and I were in college. We came just for the warm weather since we studied in upstate, NY where it's still probably snowing in late April haha. That's a nice vehicle to be spraying, I was nervous spraying this new Gladiator, but I would be shaking doing yours! That being said, it's something that can most certainly be done and you'll have a serious appreciation if you get to do it yourself. The great thing about learning to do it is that you'll be able to repair it in the future or fix any mistakes that come up. I made a few mistakes lining my own Jeep (made a video on that previously, not this video) and I ended up being able to fix each one and respray the Jeep with ease. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and for the kind words. If you ever need any help or advice, feel free to shoot me a message on Facebook or Instagram! I wish you luck and I look forward to hearing your input on future uploads!

    Another awesome video! Thanks for showing all of your steps, and explaining what you've learned from the last time you applied the raptor. Did you have any problems getting all of the trim pieces back on the vehicle after everything was Raptored? I'll be doing my FJ Cruiser in Raptor next month, trying to decide how much to take off. Also, I see you sprayed everything outside. Did you do a degreaser in-between coats to get rid of any dust, or not worried about it? I'll be spraying in a partially open space as well. Thank you!

    Fellow Jerseyite and Raptor installer here. We talked once before. You do great work, but if I can, a DA with 180 and red scotch Brite would save all that priming. Also, even though raptor sells their own line of adhesion promoter and primer, a regular 2k self etching epoxy primer and a 1.6 gun works better for me. I use Bullfrog adhesion promoter on the plastics and hard to reach areas. Last suggestion that stretches this stuff out. Reduce 10% with urethane reducer and add your own paint color. I use a HF purple gun and drill the the tip to 2.0 MM. Lays out smooth, but I will say it does need a 4th coat. But it goes really quick. Keep up the good work and looking forward to more vids.

    I certainly remember our past conversation, you have always provided invaluable insight! Thanks for taking the time to watch and again, provide additional insight. I was really interested in using the Eastwood SCT since, although I only show the interesting Raptor jobs, I mostly do truck beds and they are a PAIN with a DA. The Contour is the perfect tool for that and although it was overkill (and yes, took it down to bare metal forcing me to prime), I was too excited to test it out 🤣 I always recommend the Raptor stuff since for begineers and people watching videos like these, they always ask if one product from another brand is compatible with Raptor. Using U-Pol's Raptor products ensure there's no confusion, but what you're saying is 100% true and when I worked at Line-X, we used the same adhesion promoter that you use as well. I have yet to try your recommendation of reducing and adding your own color, but I'm taking your advice and applying it to my respray on my own Jeep Grand Cherokee, I'll be repainting everything in an OD green with your tips! Thanks again for watching, I look forward to seeing what you have to say in upcoming projects!

    I used to work at Line-X here in NJ! Line-X dried so quickly compared to this (for obvious reasons) so that wire tape was a must. This liner's thickness is much thinner than Line-X, so it's less of a necessity to use the wire tape. It was such a pain using that stuff around every edge that you'd pull I can't imagine applying it to an entire vehicle for a spray even though I used to do it every now and then at Line-X. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment, I'll run some tests with the wire tape and see how it goes!

When asked previously about your settings, you stated in one response that you shot at 50 psi, then 60 psi, then 70 psi. Then I read one response where you said 60 psi but increased 20psi for dust coat. Thank you so much! For a compressor, I’d recommend a 30 gallon which is what I’m using here. It keeps it portable enough and keeps up on the job no problem. That being said, U-POL suggests, “A 6 HP compressor that generates 150 PSI line pressure should provide sufficient air supply, but is dependent on the application equipment / gun (Shultz type or gravity feed HVLP) used to apply the RAPTOR.”

  • @MyJeepStory

    @MyJeepStory

    The only time that you need a primer is when you sand through to bare metal. The best adhesion is typically achieved to OEM paint where you scuff the surface with the red scuff pads recommended by Raptor and shoot Raptor over the prepared surface. If you have rust or are doing dent repairs, you'll need primer due to the nature of the reparations. Let me know if you need any other help and let me know how the project goes!

    So I've noticed that the color of Raptor Liner's standard black can depend on the texture you apply it at. The more coarse texture, the blacker it appears and the finer texture, as shown in this video, appears grey-black. This is just standard black, but as I was saying due to the texture, it often looks grey. I hope this helps and let me know if you decide to tackle this project on your rig!

  • @MyJeepStory

    @MyJeepStory

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words! I would before all stress that you'll need a regulator at the gun as the pressure varies quite a bit (especially with a longer hose). I would also see if you can find a secondary water separator to install before the gun as well for preventative measures. I sprayed this here around 60 PSI and increased the PSI for the final dust coat about 20 PSI. I hope this helps!

  • @CrinosAD

    @CrinosAD

    @@MyJeepStory Thank you! It sure helps, and I'll get another regulator and water separator, as the air hose is fairly long. (The compressor though is huge, so it should be able to hold pressure in the hose). But, It does not hurt to get another regulator :) 600liters / 158 US Gallon tank.

  • @MyJeepStory

    @MyJeepStory

    3 жыл бұрын

    You're right about that! If it's bare steel, you're going to want to apply their epoxy primer down first. It's a super easy step to ensure not only proper adhesion for Raptor Liner, but it also prevents corrosion. Just know that you can even get their 2K epoxy primer in an aerosol can! The steps to Raptor Line bare steel would be as follows: 1: Clean the surface 2: Abrade the surface with P80 grit 3: Apply 2-3 coats of Raptor Epoxy Primer 4: Apply Raptor Liner wet-on-wet or dry Here's a link to the TDS sheet for the epoxy primer as well: www.u-pol.com/files/10493/rep1lk-TDS-EN-AUS Let me know if you have any other questions!

  • @MyJeepStory

    @MyJeepStory

    3 жыл бұрын

    To start, no matter the color you won’t worry about fading at all. I recommend using Raptor’s color packs to keep it a consistent color and you won’t have to worry about using tint like you would otherwise. You also definitely do not have to tear the rig apart as I did, I was just worried about getting a uniform prepped surface behind the cab and in front of the bed. I do recommend removing everything you can, especially the rubber seals since they’re almost impossible to mask properly and give clean lines after it’s sprayed. Just take your time and enjoy! Let me know if I can do anything to help along the way.

  • @MyJeepStory

    @MyJeepStory

    3 жыл бұрын

    To preface this, you only need to prime the surface if you sand through paint to bare metal. Raptor doesn't adhere very well to bare metal and primer allows it to have the best adhesion in that case. If I were you, I'd order a set of red scuff pads and go to town! These are great to get in tight areas and are even what the TDS from Raptor recommends you use. After scuffing, degrease and clean the area well and hit it with Raptor. Use a regular spray gun & thin the mixed Raptor - use a 1.8 tip. Better coverage, smoother. Also the adhesion promoter.... would you use it before a regular 2k primer shot? Because you buried it under the 2k primer.. :-) So it's kinda moot. If you'd skipped the "sand it bare" step & just scuffed the original paint with 180 grit, used adhesion promoter where seen fit & shot that with the Raptor, you'da saved a lot of effort & had a factory spec base under the liner coat.. That & a few extra hours masking, minus the extreme dismantling, this would be a short video, but the results would be much the same visually - 4 or 5 hours of fussy masking beats days of dis-assembly/re-assembly & all the "shonkiness" non-factory re-assembly inevitably introduces. :-) You ain't gonna get it to go back together as tight as the factory did, not a hope, be as careful as you like. LITFA where possible & mask. Just my 2c - loved the video, everyones a Critic. :-)
