    This was sooooooo helpful. I bought a 2017 raptor but couldn’t ride it that much over the winters here in Alaska but when I checked my oil last week just for it to be black, so I went straight to this video as it helped so much on my first time changing the oil on my quad and I just got back from riding right after changing the oil at my friend’s house and I used this exact method and it worked flawlessly first try without hiccups. A couple day before, I also used your same exact method for changing the coolant, it wasn’t ready to be changed but I wanted that crappy stock “company standard” coolant out of my 9,000 expensive engine. Im trying to get a summer job so I can get some actually useful mods and some eye candy mods as well as buy some fresh Maxxis race tires and some Maxxis snow tires so I can actually ride. I’m tired of sitting inside on winter days. Winters in Alaska last 7-8 months.

    Should probably check the oil level a second time after you run the bike a couple minutes after the oil change to ensure it’s not too low after it cycles through the engine....that’s what I do

  • @redrider533

    @redrider533

    Absolutely you need to run the engine. This is called a “dry sump” engine meaning the engine doesn’t technically hold oil. That’s the job of the oil tank. This is so the motor can remain as small as possible and to sit as low as possible in the frame to maintain a low center of gravity. You have to run the engine after adding initial oil volume and then check the level. You may need to do this a few times

    Kewl vid. 👍🏻👍🏻 Raptor lil different to my Z. Bit of a pain filling two locations. Anyway, heres a thought. After pouring in your 1 1/2 - 3/4 qts of oil you should start the motor briefly, turn it off and let it stand for a min to allow the oil in the head to drain back before doing your final level check. Ive never been inside a Raptor motor but I’m sure theres a few nooks and crannies beyond filling the filter. Oh n you should leave the paper towels in the kitchen. Pick up a box of rags er least some rag on a roll blue shop towels. Im sure some one gets pissed every time that holder goes empty. Lol. Cheers

    Remove the oil filter first , then do the tank, then the case. Drain them with the oil filter cover off, it'll drain faster and get more gunk out. If all you do is pull a plug your draining in a vacuum condition, pull the oil filter first you break that vacuum.

    My 2020 manual says to pour 1.37 qts oil in the oil tank start engine rev a couple of times then turn off then add remaining oil to the tank total amount 1.96qts seems kinda scary not to have oil in engine at start

    What happens if you put in too much oil in both the case and tank? Would it burn off?

  • @Motoposh

    @Motoposh

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yes. Too much oil and you will have "blow-by"... the oil pressure in your case will be too high and will start blowing through your piston rings and eventually that will ruin your engine. Very important you do not overfill. A little too much won't hurt but an entire extra quart would be bad.

    Congrats on the new Raptor! I would do your first oil change after 10-15 hours of ride time. After you do your first oil change you're okay to change it less frequently depending on what conditions you ride it. If you ride in sand or dirt it's always better to change it more often. And yes change the filter whenever you change the oil!

  • @Motoposh

    Theres really not a lot of maintenance for these machines. As long as you change your oil, check your valves and change your coolant they run a real long time. Maintenance on a yfz is more involved

    If you think a Raptor 700 is a lot of maintenance, go buy an RZR SxS and ride it for 3 years, then go back to a raptor 700... You'll be screaming for joy that you don't have ujoints, complex roll pins, wheel bearings, etc etc to maintain. Maintaining an ATV is fairly straight forward whereas a sxs uses more time for maintenance than it does riding... I left atv's, went to sxs's and now I'm back to atvs and I'm soo much happier lol.

    They make a reducer adaptor for when they need rethreaded, it'll reduce the size of the bolt and give you stronger threads to make it less likely to happen again. Basically the reducer becomes permanent and then you have steel threads on the reducer instead of aluminum.
