Rapsodo vs Garmin R10 - Mobile Launch Monitor Accuracy Test

Спорт

We put the Rapsodo head-to-head against the Garmin 10 to see which of these two personal launch monitors is more accurate.
To test these two affordable launch monitors we'll compare their ball flight results to the Foresight GC Quad to see which one can keep up.

I’ve owned both, and I found the R10 so much easier to use than the MLM. Moreover, the R10 allows you to play, which I found to be a great way to practice (even after accounting for R10’s inaccurate ball trajectory projections). I found the MLM to be extremely basic and limited and Rapsodo never really invested in making their software more useful with more features. I now have the Mevo+ with pro package, which is much more accurate than the R10, but I miss the R10’s games (for an iPhone, the basic graphics are much easier to use than the complex graphics of E6 connect). Let me just say that some of the R10’s misreads could be due to distance from ball or from the surface where it was located not being perfectly flat.

I have both. The battery of my phone last waaaay longer with the R10. That's why I stopped using the Rapsodo. The %s are not that critical to my level of play (15hcp). Plus the R10 can be used at home with my iPad and get a better setup

Ridiculously easy to set up, loads more useful data points (understanding that some are calculated rather than empirically measured....) I just bought the Rapsodo MLM. I absolutely love it so far. I have used the net mode in my back yard and after my first round I was so much more confident on my approach shots. I dropped 5 shots hitting more greens and honestly dropped a few from an earlier round by not putting as well. I still went from 82 to a 77. The confidence of having a 160 yard par 3 and knowing that is a smooth 8 iron vs thinking maybe I need a 7 or 8 or 9 and guessing was huge behind the ball. Worth the $400. (Sucks the sale is over from father's day and it's $500 again) But I haven't been in the 70s in a long long time. This was the big change

I bought a Rapsodo and maybe I had a bad copy but I found it really inaccurate for my mid handicap swing speeds. I took it to the range on 3 different occasions and used measured range flags and a range finder to verify carry and found the Rapsodo pretty consistently to be 10 yards off. I ended up sending it back.

I use the garmin and i find it pretty accurate on pure straight shots. When going off line even a little it seems far less accurate. In this test i noticed the second set of shots were slightly off line ( misses i would love to have btw!) and i wonder if that accounts for some of the variation.

2 questions here. I see someone else talking about the leveling of the garmin. it was consistently getting the wrong angle so to me either its a leveling thing or a calibration that one of the sensors need calibrated.. also from what i can see you have your control launch monitor to the side of you ball but where are the other two? are they behind you? is that optimal? i havent looked up how youre supposed to set these monitors up but i would assume that a side angle would be best (actually ignore that last part just did some quick research lol but was it aligned properly?)

The thing not mentioned is that the Rhapsodo only works if you have a phone and specifically an iPhone/Pad. If you are not a fanboy then the extra cost just to be usable needs to be factored. Anyone who is not a pro who is concerned about 3 yards (I know the accuracy in Rhapsodo is awesome) should probably be thinking about a career change. Spin is the one thing you guys didn't mention but I think is an important measurement.

I have the Rapsodo and will be upgrading to the R10. The Rapsodo has been great for practicing, although sometimes it’s a bit finicky in the setup. But I want to setup an indoor simulator and the R10, from a cost perspective, delivers everything I’ll need. But you can’t beat the Rapsodo for portability and driving range practice. And I got mine used for less than $200. Thanks for this review!

I think something to consider is the garmin seemed to underestimate the carry distance consistently, which isn’t a bad thing in my opinion since amateurs (target market) tend to be short rather than long. I think the benefit of some club data with the garmin also gives you some feedback as to how you are striking the ball. Still the more complete option imo

Bought the Rapsodo last year, used it for a month and returned it. Maybe it was a bad unit, but the thing was the most unreliable device I had ever owned probably. Missed half the shots. And I was very particular with setting it up making sure it was level, proper distance back, etc. Was a big let down as I was super excited to have such a device but I just couldn't justify the price with the inconsistent data I was getting. Would love to try the R10 out. Have watched a few videos with people using it with awesome golf as a sim setup. Could be a super budget sim with just a net, the R10 and an ipad.

If you're using these at the range & have an average or lower swing speed, you'll get inaccurate readings because range balls are harder than normal balls so your distances likely aren't true readings because you can't compress the range balls as much. You can count on 15-20 yards less carry distance even with a good strike. Spin numbers will likely be off as well. This will happen whether your monitor was $100 or $50,000. I don't use a monitor but I can still tell the difference between range ball distances & the balls I use to play.

One major drawback of the Rapsodo is you have to be using an Apple product. Whereas the R10 works with Android, Apple and Microsoft.

I’m sure Android is on the way for them. But yes, only iOS right now

@@Golficity I reached out to the company about this in the summer of 2021. If Android was coming I suspect they'd have it out by now considering their product has been available since 2019. Good product but shortsighted to only target apple users.

Terrible test. Only 5 shots, with one club. And you compared with 2 different people that have a pretty large distance difference. Obviously the error margin would get wider the longer the shot travels. Hope nobody makes a decision off this video

A major feature I think potentially sets this apart from others is it’s accuracy with what Rapsodo calls “launch direction” - initial direction (right, left, straight) that the ball starts relative to the target line. I see that verbiage on their website but never hear anyone talking about it, what was your experience or anyone that has one have a comment?

I think something to consider is the garmin seemed to underestimate the carry distance consistently, which isn’t a bad thing in my opinion since amateurs (target market) tend to be short rather than long. I think the benefit of some club data with the garmin also gives you some feedback as to how you are striking the ball. Still the more complete option imo
