You're only looking at the silhouette of an iceberg in the distance. Tool is the deepest rabbit hole. I suggest you try the album Lateralus. All of it.

I once had a 17 hour layover and ended up falling asleep with Lateralus in my cd player and on repeat. Woke up a different person.

The only formula TOOL follows is their own
Tool is meant to take you out of your comfort zone to grow as a person. You'll get used to it and even learn to appreciate it.
This torrential flow of TOOL reactions by every reaction channel (the ones I know at least) is such a welcome change. I never get tired of the musical mastery that is TOOL.
fun facts : The lead guitarist of Tool was taught to play guitar by Tom Morello of Rage against the Machine, and was a classically trained violinist before that (thus explaining the weird timing in Tool songs). Maynard Keenan, the lead singer, was almost hired to be the lead singer of Rage and subsequently taught Morello 'drop d' tuning (the growling sound typical of grunge rock). Jones and Keenan later met in LA and started Tool as a way to blow off steam from their day jobs, which further pushed the sound into prog-rock territory. They deliberately pushed the boundaries or what an audience would tolerate because they never thought the band would go anywhere.

Tom Morello was also the one who intoduced Maynard to Danny Carrey. Wild.
The singer was in his 40’s when he recorded that.. pretty impressive to me

The sad part is that this album was the last time Maynard ever did any growls/rage. I like the new stuff but even the Tool material sounds like APC when there's nothing but harmonies.

@@tobiaswedin in the new APC album theres a couple awesome screams in “talktalk” but I haven’t heard much from the rest of the album. He can still scream, his live performances show that, but I honestly don’t think any screams were needed on Fear Inoculum, although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss them 😂

@@jpthemusicenjoyer yeah APC has a few goodies, but i miss what Maynard brought to the Tool table back in the days! Don't get me wrong, i love the cerebral angelic voice of his but what made me fall in love with Tool was the going back and forth between cerebral and rage/angst he had such an amazing range, but the new stuff is a "one trick pony" so to speak. I don't particularly listen to fear inocolum for that reason, when i get the urge for Tool i go back to the oldies 😂

@@tobiaswedin that’s fair. I do miss that voice and I’m sure he could’ve recorded a few screams on the record if he wanted. Both of APC first 2 albums I’d put almost on par with TOOL in terms of my love for them

Dude check out "Vicarous" by Tool next
Watching Danny Carrey on the drum videos makes you understand musical wizardry that every member puts into their music!
Check out The Grudge from these guys, it has the greatest primal scream in music history!
Water is wet. The Sun always rises. Tool is an experience. Nice. The Three Laws have been Observed. Thanks for coming back to your Tool de/ascent process. Take your time. Appreciate a new viewpoint. Glad you found your bop, even without the lettuce.
I’m so glad you listened to more!! If mushrooms don’t give you anxiety I recommend those, a couch, and the Lateralus or 10,000 Days album 😊 Its life changing 🖤 I’m so here for the rabbit hole!

Been listening to tool since 93 and I love them more now and appreciate the music for what it is which is the best freaking band ever lol
Sick huh. The Pot is usually the best starting point for Tool 👍. A fellow reviewer called them the end boss of rock music which I thought was a great description.

"I wasn't ready for it" is probably the most on-point quote from a first time listener to a TooL song lol 🤘
Tool is awesome, especially on headphones 😍

Vicarious next man..... such a good song 🔥🤘🏻
Maynard Keenan has such a unique voice and I absolutely love it. Such an amazing band
This was the best. This is one of my fav songs and I was getting goosebumps watching you listen to it for the first time. Check out A Perfect Circle. It’s the lead singers other band. Some songs to check out: 3 libras, pet, Judith.
I am so jealous seeing people hear Tool songs for the first time. There's so much goodness for you to go listen to! You should listen to Passenger by Deftones featuring Maynard from Tool

Dude, u should reallllly react to Tool's Pneuma Danny Carrey's live cam
Amen on anxiety from the devils lettuce 🥬 The reason I stopped years ago. It’s hard to recommend a Tool song, because The Pot kinda hung out in the pocket. Tool- The Grudge
I appreciate your reactions for Tool. I'm subbed. Continue on the spiral🌀
OH HELLS YES!!!! You rock!!!!!
I loved watching your reaction. 😂 You were grooving
Almost all of Tools songs are written in different meters so that the drums , guitar and bass are in different times and line up every so often. Idk how but they make it work. But it can drive you crazy when you wanna headbang
Check out the song Stinkfist. That song took me down the rabbit hole of Tool and now they are my favorite band. So much talent from each band member. If you want something to nod your head to I promise you Stinkfist will set you straight!
Tool is a rabbit hole. Once you jump in your there forever. I love tool the fuckin badass bro

This is absolutely one of the easiest songs to get into if you haven't heard them before. It's also of the their best.

Same. Love Tool reactions.
Tool uses so many 'non standard' music timing signatures that yes the beat for some songs is difficult to count. Really pay attention to his words...the messages in his lyrics are incredible.
I'm very new to the channel, and I've been loving your reactions!! You should absolutely give Schism a try. It's gonna throw you off-guard at first with the polyrhythms, but once you get the beat, the whole song flows like water! And its message is extremely beautiful and relevant in today's world. Cheers!
I've found that tool is not about having simple beats to nod your head to. It's sometimes more than that. It's still symmetrical but if you're wanting a simple beat that's easy to nod your head to Tool may not be your thing. Instead of a back and forth nod Tool can have multiple pockets to weave in and out of. High nods, low nods, side nods. It's more complicated.
I knew you would like that one 😎Now you have a feel of Tool now.Every song is great so go ahead and pick one. There are songs that must go together...like "Parabol/Parabola" Have the lyrics pulled up while listening to that one to get the full package.....it will get you into a meditative state....then hit you with a metaphysical right hook to the face👊💥 lol
I agree with Jason Wonderinthedark. This is where you should have started. By far the greatest group of musicians ever assembled then you add the complexity and other worldly view of how Maynard sings. It’s the golden ticket man.
I love that everyone has a different experience in their journey into listening to tool. Most people are offput or even hate it (like me) at first, but eventually they get it. and when they do...mm
Until you're ready to go back to those odd time signatures, maybe check out Prison Sex, Eulogy, or 46 and Two. Some of the more mainstream songs. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any song.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but this was their most commercially successful song. Definitely had the most mass appeal. It’s really a good song to understand what tool is capable of. If you want to see something crazy though, check it the Danny Carry drum cam. It’ll give you a whole new perspective on the talent. I haven’t seen a person that is not in awe...
Great reaction! Tool is the all time journey...
In the Tool universe of crazy time signatures, this is one the the "rare" songs in 4/4.
Must Feel The Music. Good Luck.
You should react to more radio hits by Tool. Sober, H, and Schism - just to name a few
looking for a cover of the pot and come across this, good to see music is being appreciated all around
Motionless In white - thoughts and prayers!!! Keep up the good work bro!!
Love your sincerity. Don’t lose that. One of my fav Tool reactors hated Flood by Tool. He said so. Totally get it. Like you admitting that the beat threw you off initially.
I'm sitting in my bubble bath shaking my head with you. Ha! Go see them in concert when they swing by. No Devil's lettuce necessary...but recommend 🤘😆🤘
Poly rythyms. Glad to sub you bro!!!!
Weird guilty pleasure is Brass Against the Machine’s cover of the Pot with Sophia Urista. Really coool.
Tool is specifically designed to get you out of your comfort zone.
Vicarious has a similar tone, if you liked this, you will LOVE that one
This is the best entry song to tool. No ones ready for it at first because it’s nothing like anything you’ve heard. Give it multiple tries you’ll hear different shit every time. Seriously it’s a banger. Like…..all of em.
Parabol/Parabola next.
Kurtis, I just found you. I see someone below me recommended Lateralus. I second that decision (look into how connected that song is to the Fibonacci sequence). When you are ready to continue your Tool journey, listen to their live version of Pushit. That one is something special. I also see a lot of reacts to Danny Carey doing Pneuma live. Would actually like to see your take on that one (watching the drummer) -If you do Tool videos, have the lyrics up. It makes a lot more sense
This is one of the most groovy Tool songs, if not the most.
After u get a taste for them. Go back to Jambi. Try Lateralus now
Tool on!

I fucking love that song
You have to go into each song without any expectation. Some songs will be easier to digest others will almost be painful but it's meant to get you to the next level emotionally and mentally. Sometimes prying open your third eye is painful.
Put simply; one doesn't listen to TOOL, it's an experience! 🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽
Check out The Grudge by Tool next! Big fan fav! 🤘🏼
Here we go.... time to spiral out again..... wheeeeeeeee
Welcome down the rabbit hole. Your life will never be the same. Try Sober by TOOL, their best song IMO.
You say you grew up with classic rock and now you’re reacting to Tool (which is whatever progressive metal math rock genre mix it is), but did you ever listen to early Genesis? It’s “classic” 70s prog rock, but not well known to fans of other classic 70s rock, or to fans of later Genesis. I am thinking of: - Firth of Fifth - The Cinema Show - In the Cage - Supper’s Ready - Dance on a Volcano (also in an uneven time signature - “you can’t dance to it”) - Behind the Lines - Even Turn it On Again is in an uneven time signature, though you wouldn’t guess to listen to it. Etc. These are some of the best prog rock songs ever made.
Do parabol/parabola by tool...
I was laughing when he (a hip hop fan) said he wasn’t ready for the polyrhythms, not being able to bop along, so he was going to open his mind to a different type of experience... and his choice for this was The Pot-a mostly regularly-rhythmic dis-track. HA! [sips tea waiting for it...]
Keep doing tool and you'll get 1000s of new viewers
The Pot is a catchier song than Jambi. Think of The Pot as one of the hit radio/playlist singles from the album. Other catchy Tool songs: Pneuma, Schism, 46 and 2, Lateralus, Sober, Stinkfist.
A few more from Tool you should consider... Flood (long intro but be patient) Bottom 46 & 2 (a song about evolving) Jimmy (Maynard reconnecting with his 11 year old self to heal and deal with issues he never addressed) Pushit (a song about being in an abusive relationship) Aenema (you might want to learn to swim as well) Schism (a song about the importance of communication in relationships) Parabol & Parabola The Grudge (letting go of... grudges) Lateralus (emotional & spiritual growth) Wings 1 & 2 (my favorite ever) Right in Two (a song about the inherent greed & ignorance of humans told from the perspective of angels). I could go on and on. They've never made a bad song IMO but these are a few highlights that will open you up a bit.
46&2
TOOL - Vicarious
I really enjoyed your reaction and as an old fella, I appreciate your personal character. Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but part of the satisfaction of listening to complex music like Tool's or other metal is that once you are familiar enough with the songs to be 'on' with all the off-beats, you are truly grooving on another plane outside the parameters of 4/4.
If you’re a gamer, you just hit lvl 2. Congrats!
I had Opiate at 12, start at the beginning and see the evolution take place 😊
46 & 2!
Of course, you like what you like and you can't change that. You don't have to justify that to us. It's okay if a song isn't your cup of tea :)
Everyone is different but just like tool, don’t worry or think, just ride. Try a quality straight Sativa that won’t make you sleepy. The Pot and songs from 10,000 are a later chapter in Tools discography. They are much more 4/4, your standard drum snare time signature. The deepest Tool hole belong to Lateralus, Aenema, Hooker, Jimmy. Such a deep rabbit hole. Enjoying the reactions.
Tool is the personification of "patience rewarded".
Beginners are never ready for Tool, no worries 👍
Art of dying by Gojira
If you wanna see some crazy stuff from TOOL try: "Lateralus" which creates a wicked effect with time signatures, "Rosetta Stoned" which has some really crazy and unique sounding vocal rhythm you might appreciate as a rapper, and "Pneuma" which has mind blowing drums and bass (watch the Vic Firth drum cam video).
Check out Parabola next!
This song still has a few unusual timing things. The bulk of the song is in 4/4 with some syncopation in the drums and riff, this is so close to normal that you can just nod in 4/4 and it feels good. The Interesting part is that the vocal has 4 beats for every 3 beats that the band plays. this 4 against 3 pattern isn't unheard of in pop music but it isn't super common.
Pet by A Perfect Circle 👌 And dare to run it straight into the lullaby. Go back to sleeeeeep 💤
I see I’m 2 yrs late here but who cares. This is definitely one of their good ones, one that gives you the listening equivalent of blue balls then they let you bust. Tool is just awesome.
Both things... You had no expectations and this is one of the most easy songs to understand. Another good choice for a TOOL beginner would be Invincible
sssshhhhhhhhhh..... listen to the lyrics.... this is one of the greatest moments of your life and you're off somewhere.... missing it.

The way he’s getting into it, I’m sure he’s gonna come back to the song and rediscover it like we all did
Subbed for more Tool please.....
Que extraña cualidad que tiene de hablar o cortar el tema en los mejores momentos ...
You need lyrics too. To all thier songs. So deep
I’m sure you’ve already gotten this suggestion but check out APC if you haven’t already, it’s some of Maynard’s best work. The Hollow and By and Down the River are some of my favorites
You should react to Sober you will love it, it has no weird patterns
You just close your eyes and let it take you away
Maynard James Keenan actually had Covid in February
Spiral out young man. There is no bad TOOL song. Enjoy.
