Looking at the video at the end, from left to right: Scott: Baritone. Tall blond guy. Takes over the bass line when Avi or Matt are singing Mitch: Counter tenor. Dark hair here but he changes his look a lot but he is always there. Kevin: Beatboxer, tenor, cello. Black guy in the back. Yale graduate. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Kirstin: Mezzo soprano. Only woman ever to be in the band. She changes her look a lot. Avi: Bass. Guy in the beanie. Left the band in 2017 for personal reasons. Matt: Bass. Baby faced black guy. Stepped in when Avi left. The only change in personnel is Avi leaving and Matt coming in. The other 4 are always there even though they can look different.

Thank you for putting all this info down for him! Only teeny discrepancy is that Kevin left Yale and his studies to be a doctor he joined with the others to form Pentatonix. He took a chance and says it was the best chance he ever took. 😊❤️

@@mecfstraveler Kevin graduated from Yale. That's why he didn't meet the others until the day before the audition; he was staying to complete his final exams. The girl...Kirsten...is the same girl since the beginning of the group. She just changes her hair color and style frequently.

Very true. Sometimes blonde, sometimes brunette, even silver-grey hair! But her name is spelled Kirstin, not Kirsten.

I think you're getting the message about headphones. The bass and beatboxing are so MUCH BETTER when you can really hear it.

Just another Pentaholic, signing up for the ride. Your words made me reflect on why I'm so hooked on reaction videos these days - like you, back in the Before Times, I thought "why do people make reaction videos? Who would watch them? Sounds boring!" But the thing is, it's a very human Thing to get a lot of joy from seeing someone discover something we love for the first time. We get to have a little bit of that "holy shit, that was AMAZING!" vibe again, vicariously. (Plus, there's a healthy dose of "one of us! one of us!" goin' on when someone new falls down the PTX rabbit hole :) ) PTX are amazingly talented, amazingly creative singers and arrangers. But they're also just amazingly kind people - they truly love their fans, and are still, after 10 years, having trouble accepting just how successful they've been. And I think the Pentaholic fanbase takes its cue from them - in my experience, it's one of the most genuinely kind and accepting fanbases on the Internet (which is a little odd, given how...dedicated we can be :) ) There is a LOT of PTX to choose from. Also, acapella is kind of On Fire right now - eventually, you're going to be watching Home Free (/me waves to all the Home Fries out there), and Voiceplay, and Voctave. So much creativity and passion happening in this space right now, it's an amazing time. Not to mention the solo work the PTX gang does - Avi has his own career now, Kirstie has an album out, Scott and Mitch are Superfruit, and Kevin does work as KO. Welcome to the fam, sir!

You need to listen with headphones...its a must with PTX.

You should check out either their 'Daft Punk medley' or one of their originals 'Love Again' they will really show Kevin's beatboxing..

Enjoyed the reaction. You're so used to hearing drum machines, you seem to have missed the fact that the beat is all beatboxing. Every sound you heard was made vocally. I agree with others here - you absolutely need earphones for Pentatonix.

Agree on the headphones. Full on stereo system with great speakers or studio monitors for opn air. In ear monitors, good headphones, even basic ear buds otherwise. Needed not just for bass but they also use positioning in the stereo field (sometimes moving) as part of the arrangement.

You have to see them live^^ Absolute gamechanger!! These guys and that girl are live soooooo damn amazing!!! Btw they won 3 grammys^^ I saw them live in 2016 and i was blown away!!

There are some obligatory videos that will tell you so much about the group... Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen), The Sounds Of Silence (Simon & Garfunkle), Hallelujah (Cohen), Daft Punk medley (1st Grammy), Thrift Shop (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis) and the most important one, their cover of Imagine (Lennon) which should be required viewing by everyone.

Many have already said this to you but it’s true that you miss so much without headphones.

I like watching people discover Pentatonix. I became a fan of Pentatonix in 2011 when they competed with other a Capella groups on season 3 of the Sing Off TV show. They evolve and aren't afraid of trying new things no matter what the feedback is. True artists who know what they can do and push themselves to go beyond with great results. One thing I really like about the group is that they aren't afraid to tackle any genre of music.

There's only been 1 girl during the entire 10-year span of this group, and that is Kirsten Maldonado. Same girl in every video!

Their cover of Gold by Kiera will blow your mind

They had a band member quit I'm 2017, so the guy in this video with the beard, Avi Kaplan (Bass) left Pentatonix to do his own thing and was replaced by Matt Sallee (Bass), who was on the far left in the Sound of Silence video. The rest of the group consists of: Scott Hoying (Baritone guy in the middle), Mitch Grassi (Tenor short guy that changes his look a lot), Kirstin Maldonado (Mezzo-soprano also changes her look a lot), and Kevin Olusola (beatboxer).

Also, sorry to spam you with comments, but when you said “The best thing in the world is to be different, in any way” that alone would have won you a fan for life.

HEADPHONES HEADPHONES 🎧 ARE A MUST FOR PTX. It's ways so much fun to see a new reactor shocked by them!! I just binged watched all 3 videos. I would suggest you do their cover of Problem. Mitch raps in it but all parts of that cover are amazing.

You seem to be a person who really appreciates good vibes. This is one of the greatest things about Pentatonix. They give good vibes to almost everything. Disturbed did a very dark version of Sound of Silence. Pentatonix's version is somehow . . . uplifting & hopeful instead. Check out their very new original song "Happy Now". And indeed, you will often find that the worst part about any Pentatonix song is that it ends too soon!

Pentatonix headphones are almost necessary. You’re missing half of it. I assure you.

Mitch & Kirstin are chameleons, they're always there, but their looks change, especially through the early years!

I love it I love it I love it! Taking those good energy vibes. So delighted that you’re reacting to PTX! And this is one of my favorite songs. Other good ones they rap in are “Sing”, “Problem” (Ariana Grande cover) and “Starships” (Nicki Minaj cover). Plus Superfruit (a side band with the tall blond, Scott, and Mitch, the one wearing glasses in this video) do a cover of Beyonce/Nicki Minaj's Feeling Myself and a Beyonce mashup medley that are just fantastic. The woman is the same as in the first video - her name is Kirstie, and she changes her look a lot but it’s always still her. Mitch changes his look a lot too, but it’s always still him as well. (Small tip: you may get more views/likes if you add “first time reacting to” in your video titles. We Pentaholics love re-experiencing the joy of the first time we heard a song by seeing someone else experience it for the first time!)

They make some of the lyrics person (e.g., when Texas...with Kevin's double take)...they are creative and have fun.

A brief introduction to Pentatonix: A five member acapella group formed in 2011. They sing covers of pop songs and have several Christmas albums in their catalog. They've also put out two albums of original material, one just released February 12, 2021 (The Lucky Ones). The original band members were Scott, Kirstin (Kirstie), Mitch, Kevin and Avi. Of these five, four are still in the group. Avi left the group in 2017 and was replaced with Matt. They've won multiple awards including three Grammys. While acappella since forming the group, they occasionally introduce instruments such as piano (played by Scott) and cello (played by Kevin). They've also included instrumentals played by featured guests. Most of their 'instrumental sounds' however, are created by Kevin, their very talented beatboxer along with baselines performed by Matt and Scott. While performing as a five-member group, they also have individual works worth investigating. There's so much more info 'Pentaholics' can add to this list. Just ask and they will respond. Enjoy!

You will always see the same five with one exception: the bass began with Avi and eventually changes to Matt. The rest can be chameleons but are the same people.

I love the energy in this one! And it's good energy! The girl was in the first video, and is in all of the videos. Kirstie (rhymes with "thirsty") has been there from the beginning. 😊 Kirstie and Mitch (the guy with really dark hair and higher-pitched voice) change their alot but have always been in the group. The only lineup change came in 2017 when original bass singer, Avi Kaplan, left the group for personal reasons. It was sad, horribly sad, but it was amicable and he helped find his own replacement, Matt Sallee. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction just like I thoroughly enjoy Pentatonix! I like them each as people and think they're brilliant artists! Thank you so much for reacting and I'm so glad you're enjoying their work! 😊❤️👍🏻👍🏻 And.. yes! Tell your friends but I really do recommend headphones so you can hear the insane bass line! No matter how hard I try and nothing breaks the bass forward like headphones consistently with these videos. It always shocks me to hear how much I've been missing without them and I've been listening to them since 2011.

I watch the original Of Macklemore and Louis and they have all these computers and a guy on the trumpet and musicians and Pentatonix just does it with 5 people and their voices. Any music Reactor needs to be wearing headphones particularly when you are reacting to Pentatonix Because no speaker is going to catch all the layers Of there performance particularly the bass.

They have rescheduled their last tour that was interupted due to the virus - I believe it is now later this year (2021) check out their official website for dates etc. It was the European portion of the tour that they will complete.
