@knoxhill I enjoy your breakdowns. One thing I think you missed was his bar connection from “now I just do it by choice” connection to “spin you around like a judge on the voice” 3rd bar connection to 3rd bar. This freestyle brings such good hard energy, every time I listen to it I feel amped!

James Brown "The Funky Drummer " is probably the track you're thinking of. That drum break is pretty much the basis/ origin of boom- bap beats. The drummer's name is Clyde Stubblefield. There are around 20 James Brown songs that are famously sampled too.
