Suga is the real deal and a much-sought-after writer/producer. Most rappers in kpop are handed an aesthetic and lyrics to sell. BTS's rap line are true students of hiphop and it's the first and foremost reason they stood out in the industry. They were willing to be raw and say and do the things no one else in the industry dared to. This influence is seen in the next generation of kpop acts who are exercising more freedoms and creative expressions because BTS opened it up for them. BTS has money for production NOW, but they started out practically bankrupt with zero budget and an industry stepping on their necks. Daechwita's MV is about an internal battle between the young upstart Suga used to be versus the king he is now that can easily tip over into egomania if he's not careful. At the end, the "old him" kills the egomaniac.

Bts is Korean. The set of the video is a historical building in Korea, the lyrics partly refer to an ancient Korean king

I'm an English speaker and I STILL turn on subtitles for most of American rap; ESPECIALLY when listening to true lyricists like Eminem and J.Cole... I can't always hear exactly what they're saying and even if I do, I'll miss some of the wordplay and double/triple entendres without actually SEEING/READING what's being said. So I don't buy your "subtitles are scary/ I don't know what's being said because I can't take the time to read it and shouldn't have to." ANY true artists/lyricist would look up the lyrics to truly appreciate what's being said.

As a non-native English speaker, I have noticed that a large part of the world's population does not speak English, yet they still enjoy listening to English songs. This shows the universality of music, as it goes beyond language barriers. However, I am curious to understand why you would react to a non-English song if a foreign language prevents you from fully enjoying the song?

I have all of Agust D’s music on my playlist and listen all the time. I am in the process of learning Korean but I still enjoy all of his raps even though the raps are mainly in Korean. He does a lot of word play and for me when I listen to rap whether in English or Korean, the words are just as important as the beats and cadence.

if you don't have an open mind, you can't really understand anything, that's the hard part for anyone, it's the same, and my husband rejects their music because they don't speak English.....unfortunately, you're missing out on something that, in my opinion, no group of over time to make ... The best lyrics ... the best Rap ... the best dance ... the best music and all in one group ... which still have a quality that I honestly don't have I've seen it in no one and I'm referring to the artists from the West...Bts. They are humble..modest..honest and real qualities that are unfortunately on the way to extinction...BTS are legends and will remain in history that many people choose not to know his music and all these people lose something precious because such music and such a group is born once im our life

He didn't say that he didn't want to understand what Yoongi says. He said that he doesn't want to analyze the lyrics because you lose 80% of the skill and message in the translation - and he's right. He wouldn't understand most of the references nor pick up the intricacies of his writing anyway. He's right when he says that there's much more to rap then the meaning of the lyrics. He tried to pick up what he can understand and what matters a lot in rap as well: syllables and rhymes. It's international even if you don't understand the language and he can appreciate music whoever he likes. Let's not force him into something he doesn't feel comfortable doing

SUGA is a member of BTS. SUGA also known AGUST D. SUGA is Korean...all BTS members are Korean, BTW. The location of this MV was also in South Korea. It's sad that you won't read the subtitles. I guess, that's your preference. For me, lyrics are important. It's not only about the cadence and flow. I hear lots of rappers (not all though) who do have rhymes in their lyrics but the messages are BS . Hahaha! I used to listen to rap before. There was one rapper that we had (God bless his soul) that really set a standard here (in the Philippines). His name was Francis M (M for Magalona). His lyrics were dope. BTS rap line are those rappers who made me listen, appreciate and love rap again. Anyway, Thank you for your honest opinion.

I just happened to find your channel by chance on KZread recommendation. I'm glad that you're being honest to yourself and what not, but brah I think your thoughts are a bit contradicting to as you claim to be. Like do you react to non-English songs for the feel of the music or to understand the music. If I were to be honest, I think you need to put the effort of being open minded and into learning new arts and different aspects of different culture if you were to do non-English reactions. You can be honest, but I don't think the things you've said is as genuine as you claim to be. I think the only reason why you keep on saying you don't understand a non-English song is because you're too lazy to read the subs. Like there's literally English subs and you still claim that you don't understand the structures. Like it's understandable if it was too poetic to understand, but when it's basically direct, I don't know what else to say lmao. Pretty sure you'll have a lot more to say or be more comfortable if the song you're listening to was in English because you only surrounded yourself in the English community. Like hell even some other English speakers don't understand certain English songs as well. Although the feel of the music depends on the person's taste, however, no sugarcoating, but if you claim to be a writer like you said, and if you really want to understand a meaning of a song, you should know that lyrics is everything and it matters despite if it was in English or not. Pretty sure you don't understand Spanish but have Despacito on your playlist, right? Quit finding excuses by saying "I don't understand", "Is he Japanese and not Korean?" "Is this Japan?" is like that is the biggest insult you could've said after claiming to know a bit about BTS, EXO and BlackPink for the least. Although I know it may take some time to adjust to new things and you might take this post as a grain of salt, but I promise you that you'll feel better about yourself once you start to learn these types of things. We never stop learning every day. This is how you'll expand the horizon of appreciating other cultures.

Great comment. I listen to BTS and all their solo music, once I know what the lyrics are, it’s enriches listening to the song. I blast all of Agust D out my car on the regular with no need to have subtitles. When someone is so good like him or RM with wordplay, it’s almost criminal to not know what they are saying when subtitles exist. I don’t listen to Eminem just to hear his cadence, what he is saying is just as important. My guess is, it may just be a reaction for the views and to get the comments.

I'm not sure how much you know about Min YoonGi aka Suga/AugstD....but as you liked his MV then the following info might be of interest to you. Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16. Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper in his hometown Daegu, He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 and became the second member to join BTS..... At BTS debut in 2013 he was 20 y.o.... he is one of BTSs main producers/songwriters/composers and has over 150 song copyrights.... he also produces for other artists and has won awards for his work.... he is one of the fastest rappers in South Korea. Suga (SHU-GA.... from Shooting Guard - the position he played in basketball) ...... AgustD = SUGA + DT (Daegu Town - his hometown) Spelt Backwards Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce, write and compose music. In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking. He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising. He has released 2 mixtapes - and last year released his first official album (of which he continues to maintain full creative control) Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D". He is best known for his honest hardhitting lyrics. Bookish Theories KZread channel has really good explanations to BTS videos as there is a lot of cultural references and depth to this song that really will blow your mind This is the first song in a trilogy..... He is a master storyteller.... a fellow army best explained the trilogy as - Daechwita... ridding himself of the need to prove his worth to others Haegeum... ridding himself of the confines of modern society Amygdala... he investigates the inner demons and trauma that started his confinement in the first place. Suga/AgustD wrote, composed and produced the songs, he conceptualised the MVs and had creative control (working as usual with Director Lumpens (Choi YongSeok) who does most BTS MVs) Fun facts - The gun used was a Colt M 1860 ARMY Daechwita is Traditional Joseon Korean Royal Parade/Military Music - notifying all that the king is here Yoongi(Suga) is a member of the clan of the very last empress of Korea. Daejanggeum Park is where the MV was filmed.... It is a giant film set that doubles as a public historical park where people can come to "experience" old times. Hope you have a great day💜💜Sending Greetings from Australia

Recommend: "We On" color coded lyrics and live performance (no MV). RM solo: "Monster", "Joke", "Do You", "Change" with Wale. Suga (goes by when with BTS)/August D (goes by when he does solo projects/performances): "Haegeum", " Amygdala", "Snooze", "Girl of My Dreams" with Juice Wrld. J-Hope: "Arson", "More", "On the Street" with J-Cole (mentor), and live performance at Lollapalooza festival.
