As a Mom... worst phone call of my life.. my oldest son.. in a fight with a Gay man that kept hitting on him.. my son was drunk and high at 19 yrs old and put the man in the hospital. He was looking at 20 yrs easy.. if not life for a hate crime.. I'm very blessed.. my son is now 36, has been sober and clean for 15 yrs.. has been married for 10 yrs, owns his home and works his ass off everyday. He made a major mistake.. but learned his lesson... especially after spending 9 plus months in jail.. thankfully not prison, but he never wanted to go back. He changed his life.

I certainly hope my son goes that way. He's 17 and got in trouble for stealing alcohol recently plus a few other things in the past. Hopefully he can see the light without having to go to jail , though that might be the shock he needs :/ Your and your son's story gives me hope

In 1978 I was the stage roadie for a Toronto based band called ZON (3 albums) and we had the opportunity to open their Toronto show at the annual Canadian National Exhibition (think of it as an annual county fair; on steroids). As we waited to get our stuff on stage, we got to hear their incredible soundcheck. Hearing them checking their vocal mics by singing a capella was like a dream. Then after our set (well received), I was backstage packing up our gear. My head was inside a road case and as I came up from that case, I made a quick u-turn to grab more cables and ran right into Tommy Shaw! AND he had his guitar with him! I nearly died on the spot, both by being so close to a guitar hero and nearly laying him flat out. Thankfully he was very gracious about it as I melted into a grovelling pile of apologies. Ahh, my brush with greatness.

Tommy Shaw said the song just kind of wrote itself. He was just singing anything that came to his mind and that’s what came from it. He said he’s never been in trouble with the law ever. Yes that sound you liked was a synth. Check out Mr Roboto, Too Much Time on my Hands, The Best of Times, Lady, Babe. Oh and Blue Collar Man. I see it as a tribute to the working man or woman. Not 9 to 5 at a desk job but doing all the physically challenging work. “Long nights, impossible odds…..” and so it goes. But that also goes for bands, first responders, etc.

Everyone stands. The game stops. Players are looking at the screens. All you can see is gold “Terrible Towels” waving and on the screens the defense making amazing plays. It’s the coolest experience in the stands!!! No lie, I have seen the Steelers come back from being down and win the game after Renegade. It’s electric!!! Styx is in my Top 5 Concert Bands of all time. I've been listening to them since the mid '70's. When Renegade hit the airwaves back in '78, it was instant Banger. Still is today. The Come Sail album is a Triple Platinum Banger from start to finish. At their concerts, (I've been to 10 of them going back decades), this song is a fan fave and gets Rocked hard. Listen to the lyrics, learn them then, crank it up to 11. The song tells a story - He's telling his mom what's up and it's real damn bad! Oh momma, I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law... lawman has put an end to my running and I'm so far from my home..... hangman is coming down from the gallows and I don't have very long.....

A Styx song associated with diverse opinions, but I would describe as being EPIC is "Mr Roboto" from 1982. It's from their succssful "concept" album "Kilroy Was Here," written and championed by co-lead singer/keyboard player Dennis DeYoung. Mr Roboto was a huge hit single for Styx, and comes along with a wondefully cheesy 80s video. Really a must watch!!! DeYoung's vision focused on the evils of music censorship. "Kilroy", the main character of the album, is a famous rock star who is sent to prison by a group called "The Majority For Musical Morality." In jail, workers have been replaced by robots called "robotos," and Kilroy escapes inside a robot costume (ie, Mr. Roboto). Unfortunaltey, Styx's 1983 tour was a stage production based on the album, and was basically a logistical nightmare, lacking the profits of previous tours. Most of the band were not enthusiastic or on board with the "Kilroy Concept", especially Tommy Shaw, who in addition disliking the new musical direction, also had to do some acting in the show. Tommy Shaw is a great guitarist, songwriter, and was the co-lead vocalist for Styx. He is not an actor.... When the tour ended, the band had effectively split up and did not reform until 1990. This initial split effectively ended their amazing streak of hit singles, beginning with the awesome power ballad "Lady" in 1973.

As a Mom... worst phone call of my life.. my oldest son.. in a fight with a Gay man that kept hitting on him.. my son was drunk and high at 19 yrs old and put the man in the hospital.

I don’t know why but this is the Pittsburgh Steelers theme song-3rd or 4th quarter-the big screens go black and every player&fan (plus every team that comes into our stadium) knows what’s coming. Everyone stands. The game stops. Players are looking at the screens. All you can see is gold “Terrible Towels” waving and on the screens the defense making amazing plays. I just saw them (again) last week, and despite them having been around for over 50 years, they still rock the house every time. One of greatest live band and still constantly touring. Renegade is one of my favourites live (with Criminal Mind by Gowan when in Canada).
Sail away, Grand illusion, Castle Walls, lord of the rings, rocking the paradise, best of times, Babe a ballad, basically all 1970's albums fire Crystal Ball i can go on forever
I don't have a favorite Styx song, love this song and then I listen to another Styx song then I love that one. Happy I got to see them live in maybe 2008, it was great.
STYX was an amazing band! Check out their music throughout the 70's into the 90's
Still blows this song away in concert. As a man of faith I think you would be moved by Show Me The Way. Makes me tear up . . . When my husband was deployed and I couldn’t watch the news I heard the song on a classic rock station and it brought me some peace.
I just noticed the song added that "gospel choir" style element. That always adds a really cool subset or something like that to a song. Two other songs I can think of off the top of my head are Foreigner "I want to Know what Love Is" and "Spirit in the Sky." So many great reviews of songs that are part of my life that I haven't heard forever. Thanks, BP.
I know this song because I remember when this album came out, and my daughter-in-law knows this from the show, Supernatural.

From what I've seen and heard from different rock bands in interviews, especially Journey, the singer, guitarist and keyboardist usually worked together to get the sound and verses based on each of their specific talents and most of them could play several instruments so that all contributed.

BLUE COLLAR MAN! The opening organ riff is so good, and so eerie at the same time. You must check it out.
