The lead singer Dee Snider fought for free speech in congress. Him with his big wild hair, black tank top and blue jeans very eloquently destroyed his opposition.

What’s funny is he fought for free speech and who he fought against was the same political party he supports. He was and has been part of the issue our society faces today. Those women who were fighting to censor was Dems, were paid by Dems but we the public was lead to believe they were conservatives. The Left r experts in controlling the narrative!

You know, you solved a mystery for me. I was wondering why me (a traditional prog rock kinda guy) gravitated so effortlessly to Hip-Hop one I became a little more aware of it. PS: I wonder if that's the reason why Al Gore started investigating the climate. "It's raining season and this thing is dry as a mf."

The character in the video is loosely based on character (Neidermeyer) in the classic comedy movie Animal House. Same actor that played Neidermeyer in the movie plays the character in the video. The guy at the video end that says "Oh boy is this great" is also loosely based on a character (Flounder) from Animal House. Animal House was about a college fraternity.

This was the anthem of my childhood. One of the first pieces of music I ever bought as a kid was the album Stay Hungry from Twisted Sister. Both "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It" are on that album. These guys were amazing live and they were always in those costumes. This was about being unique and being yourself. There is video footage of the testimony in front of Congress, that others have mentioned. It is worth the watch because Dee Snider put them all in their place. They were gobsmacked at the sight of a "Rocker" being highly intelligent and well-spoken.

They actually formed way back in the early 70’s and were fans of David Bowie and others that wore makeup. They called it “glitter rock” back then. It was way before Motley Crue and the glam rock era. It took them 10 years to finally get signed and get national recognition. They also did a crazy Christmas album that needs to be heard to believe.

Dee Snider is a beast! As others write he spoke in congress against censoring lyrics in music. It was a helluva display of power. He came in like a boss wearing full rockstar gear and proceeded to give the most eloquent speech and even ridiculed Tipper Gore by implying she was a freak for thinking his lyrics was about S/M sex when it was really about him going through surgery! Al gore was a senator at the time and Dee was saying it straight to his face! :D -You should react to the video of it!! -Remember he was also fighting for raplyrics. -it was the whole beginning of the "parental advisory" stickers that turned out to be a stamp of approval in the eyes o kids rather than a warning about something dangerous!

Look up the British Band "Sweet". They did Little Willy, my personal favorite Ballroom Blitz. They were a sub-genre called Glam Rock. Twisted Sister did the same thing with Heavy Metal. They Glamed it up. It also helped transition Metal into the mainstream from underground, Despite big leads like Led Zepplin and Guns N' Rose's, who kept it to just this side of Rock. As you can see the point of Twisted Sister was to poke fun of and parody the 80's, when these music videos were made/released

bit of a funny story: this song was huge when I was in 8th grade. I was always an outsider and really never hung around anyone. Anyway there was a young lady in music class that would say I wanna Rock, almost daily. At the time I didn't listen to and hard rock, hairbands etc. So one day she does her "I wanna Rock!" and I reached in my pocket and handed her a rock I had picked up earlier. She was shocked while everyone else laughed, granted I think they were mostly laughing at me but I didn't care.

Being a musician, songwriter and vocalist myself, I know that the rockers who have their music sampled get paid big-time dollars from the rappers who sample their music. When Diddy sampled the Police song "Every Breath You Take", he had to pay Sting (the lead singer of the band The Police who wrote that song) $2,000.00 a day! So, I'm sure that none of the rockers who get their music sampled are complaining. lol

Fun fact: When Tipper Gore (wife of former VP Al Gore) was running her campaign on rock music being a bad influence on children and young adults, the court invited Dee Snyder (Lead singer of Twisted Sister), among others, to testify. They expected a crass, stupid, vulgar, anarchic guy to show up and cause a spectacle, confirming their every prejudice. Instead, they got a calm, erudite, intelligent and educated gentleman (albeit with long hair) who absolutely CRUSHED whatever the campaign and their supporters were claiming, refuting every argument. Absolutely brilliant!

40 years old…I remember when Stay Hungry (the album with this and Not Gonna Take It on) came out. Those videos were so entertaining 😂 Saw Twisted Sister on their Come Out and Play tour in Manchester, they were awesome live! BP, check out the video for “Be Chrool to Your Schuel” which features Alice Cooper on co-lead vocals.

Dee wrote that album in 45 minutes while his wife went to the grocery store!!! My old high school's band STILL uses Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" as the marching drum cadence!!! STILL TODAY!!!

I’ve seen some documentaries on Dee Snider, and that guy is sooooo smart! I got this cassette in 4th or 5th grade, and I knew every song. Love Twisted Sister! Came back after checking Google, because I was pretty sure he’s in a happy marriage. Yup, he’s been married to his beautiful wife for 42 years, and they have four kids. They live in a big beautiful mansion, from what I remember. Really neat guy. His wife is a costume designer, so maybe that explains his crazy stage outfits. He looks pretty normal off stage.
