Rapper Dee-1 Defends Deion Sanders, Challenges Jason Whitlock to Show Christian Grace | Ep 628

Jason welcomes Dee-1 to “Fearless” for a special one-on-one interview. The man formerly known as David Augustine sits down to share the story of his journey from the hood of New Orleans to the halls of Harvard. Dee outlines the path that turned him away from the trappings that led to the deaths of his close friends to become one of the biggest voices in Christian rap. No stranger to public beef with the likes of hip-hop stars like Rick Ross and Meek Mill, Dee-1 has some advice and challenges Whitlock over his very public and very outspoken criticism of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders. Plus, Dee-1 shares his insights on the rap industry and its dangers and addresses those critical of his collaborations with some of rap’s most secular artists. This episode is an exercise in respectful, thoughtful debate - iron sharpening iron.

I went to LSU with Dee 1 and we both volunteered with middle school students. I don't know what some of you are talking about because obviously you all have never met him. Dee 1 is one of the most humble, intelligent, talented, caring and consistent people I've ever met. Dee 1 has always acted like a Christian and treated everyone with the utmost respect. Dee 1 also taught one of my younger cousins and is still a mentor to my cousin, who is very successful in his own right. God bless Dee 1.

Sadly this comment section confirms what many of us have always known about the majority of Whitlock fan base which is it’s filled with modern Pharisees. And Jason or whoever runs his channel went with a clickbait bad faith headline/soundbite framing Dee-1 as a Deion Stan which has clouded the judgment of so many others. Even if I give Jason the benefit of doubt and say he didn’t do it, the ppl who run his channel have very evil intentions with that conscious decision to portray Dee-1 in that way

@@truthbearer7891 One thing I noticed is that when Dee-1 was saying "do you love your (fill in blank) more than you love God?", I was just HOPING that he would add in Country (American Nationalism) or potential political idol (Trump). THAT IMO would have completely turned the audience against Dee-1. I did notice the title and knew that it would already pit most of Whitlock's audience against Dee-1 before they even heard him utter a sentence. Dee-1 seems like a fantastic young man of God. Do I agree with all of his methods? No. I do wonder if he has enough of a balance of being around Godly believers and accountability vs. his worldly circle. But I really believe this brother is the real deal.

@@Riles3152 Just a few weeks ago, maybe longer Jason was talking about how people put titles on there thumbnails saying stephen a destoys whitlock and he explains how people do that to get clicks and views. So he knows exactly what he’s doing when he put that up. I bet a lot of these people just watched this one clip but didnt watch the whole interview to see what this dudes all about. I just told my son this yesterday. Never become a fan of someone. Its ok to admire and respect someone but never be a fan because when you admire and respect someone you can dissgree with them on things you may feel differently about. But when you’re a fan of someone than they can do no wrong and they can say whatever and youll hang on every word and become soilders for them no matter what. "Grace" doesn't mean not pointing out sin in a fellow believer. The height of love is making sure your fellow Christian is aware of his unrepentant sin. Sanders is professing one thing, but practicing another. i suggest Dee-1 read Paul's Epistles to be certain what "Christian Grace" means. It doesn't mean turning a blind eye to a fellow believer causing discord in the Body of Christ.

@KingTay74, are you serious? The illusion of fornication is one. The love of money is another. Thinking too highly of himself is another. Leaders like Deion keep young believers from growing. Another great episode Jason, this young man is very impressive, praying for him to stay strong out there! He’s totally missing Deion but he’ll come around eventually if he stays in the word. I’d argue a leader claiming to be a follower of Christ while proactively leading people astray and perverting the word are going to have severe consequences at judgment (the current pope, Deion, Mike Todd, Joel Osteen etc.). I think sinners who never claimed Jesus Christ will have it easier in eternity than these folks from everything I can discern from the New Testament.

With all due respect if we are genuine "righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ" Christians shouldn't we be interceding for those whose eternity maybe in jeopardy instead of writing them off as hell bound. Our Lord is rich in mercy and yes He will judge the unbeliever but He is not in a hurry to send anyone to Hell. He's not willing that anyone should perish.

@@shed4287Exactly. What you have said is the height of grace and love for our fellow man. Paul pointed out Peter's error w/r/t to the Jewish dinners and where he sat. It is love, not derision. Jason is pointing out Deion's hypocrisy and people need to realize it's not out of malice, and criticism of his job as a coach has nothing to do with Sanders' Christian walk. I'm a Reformed Baptist, so I am a Calvinist, but I don't know who God has chosen v. those He has not. So it's up to me, and all Christians, to spread the whole, unadulterated Gospel, including not leaving out the repentance and righteous judgement of God on all mankind. It's coming, and God's hand of Grace is not infinite. God bless...

Jason, that was a great interview! I love the zeal, Dee has. I don't know how long he's been, a Christian, (or, how much time he spends in the, Word [with the Lord], alone), but Dee is surely, young in his faith & understanding, of what it TRULY is, be a follower of, Christ Jesus. (I reference, Aquila & Pricilla discipling Apollos [Acts 18.24-26, more accurately). That's why, Jason, I'm praying that you two come together, personally, so you can disciple him, and help him to mature doctrinally, with the pure Word...and then, take that to the streets, as well. Once again, I reference: Acts 18.24-26. Be blessed. -Mr. "X" 2 Co.2.15

Outstanding show Y'ALL ( FEARLESS ARMY). DEE 1 is one of my favorite Rappers. I turned my nieces on to him, where word has it that when my youngest sister, and her husband would leave their house for the weekend, the girls would have Full Blown House-Parties. My sister, and husband sneaking up on them to see party-goers swing on the Chandeliers. My nieces spoke well on Dee -1's music, but one of my nieces was murdered by one of her male associates ( It could've been her babies daddy). I sent them Dee-1s music as a guide to influence them. DAMM!!! 😢

My thought is this. Have you ever just known someone that for whatever reason a guy or girl justs erks you and irritates you because of there ways so you talk about them because of it? I have. And I know if a persons ways offends me so much that I constantly feel I have to talk about them and criticize them, than I know thats not coming from a good place and I would need to pray about it. But if its coming from a place where I want to see them do better as a brother or Sister in Christ, than I would handle it differently and try to talk with them woman to man or man to man and rebuke them in love. I think for Jason its two things 1 he has to be honest with himself and truely ask himself which one is it and deal with it accordingly with Gods help. And two, before he does that really search himself and ask as a christian am I falling short in anyway that would make me look bad as a Christian but still claim Christ and does it look like on the outside looking in am I doing anything to change my ways because people maybe seeing and saying well Jason you maybe claim Christ but youre doing this that and the third. I understand Jason acknowledges publicly he struggles with gluteney but he's making it known to the world his struggles and his sin. But who's to say deion displays his sins to the world of what Jason believes hes being with the pride and lack of humbleness, Jason only sees what he feels he's displaying. But who's to say deion isnt praying to be delivered from the very things that Whitlock is saying he's being. Deion doesn't have to reveal what he's praying to the Lord about. But when you truely lead with love you do what God says and seek understanding. I feel instead of constantly talking about Deion and pointing out his wrongs, try to understand why he is being the way that he is, and the only way to truely do that is to talk with the man himself.

Yes, I would like for Whitlock to do that besides just speculating on what Deion’s intentions are, and, as the guest pointed out, don’t condemn other Christians because they don’t praise like you do. If you don’t do it the Jason way, something is wrong with you. Instead of him constantly using his platform to point out and criticize others, he should uplift those in life and athletics who “do it right” in his opinion, and how God has positively affected their life, but he is smart enough to know that wouldn’t garner enough clicks and likes in this climate, and his style gains much more attention and controversy.

@@georgesanders1132 Yes and thats where the fight lies. On one end I believe he does want to live for God, but on the other hand he has to create controversy for clicks and likes because he still wants to find success on the platform he has. He has to trust that when you're truely for God and you seek him first for guidance, you will find success. I dont mind him even giving his opinions about deion. Its just when he does it to the point of redundancy it causes me to question his motives.

This attraction is covered in many of the fire starters. This is especially true of the recent one with S. Sharpe.

I bet you don't have a issue with Jason Whitlock ignoring all the negative Steve Harvey stands for, hell Whitlock own crew told him Steve Harvey was not a good person, yet he ignored them! Until Fat Bastard can have that same energy for Steve Harvey and TD Jakes y'all both need to get off this young man's nuts about his innocent opinion and preference in people to support!

So what is whitlock doing. For him to be a Christian as he says, thou should not judge. Does whitlock judge people. Nobody is perfect in this world as we all know that. The 1 thing though that Christian people love to do is talk about people. Judge people. How about whitlock turn this into a gospel channel and preach the word of Jesus instead of talking about people and him saying that he calling them out. I can guarantee he will lose followers and guess why, because people us just on the channel for the negatively that he pours out about people

Thank you Jason for interviewing Mr. Augustine! I vehemently disagree with his justicification with doing songs with secular/profane rappers. His proof passage (Mark 2) doesnt lean his way. Jesus broke bread with sinners. We can do the same. I would enjoy a conversation between Dee-1 and Christian artists that believe it doesn't glorifies our Lord to rap on the same song with secular/profane. I want to support my brother in Christ so I only buy his songs with him rapping or him partnering with fellow Christian rappers.

I see both sides of Dee-1 & Jason’s conversation pertaining to Deion Sanders. My request of Jason Whitlock is to PLEASE TEACH what he knows about humility and leadership as it relates to topics that are popular to the culture (ex.Sports) but Teach/show people to keep it Jesus centered and focused. I believe Deion Sanders is a work still in progress but always speak and keep Jesus first. Learning this myself.
