Nice performance! We need more guitarists like Raphael. He always gives new interpretations to the old always-same-played music. Really makes this prelude sound new, fresh and beautiful. Congratulations!
He makes it all sound new again. . .wonderful. . .
Most passionately expressed version of the prelude I've ever heard. Well done Raphael. Truly superb
All in this is superb. Excelent interpretation to this amazing prelude of a genius, on a guitar made by other genius. Astonishing! 🙇
This is the best I've ever heard it played - Bravo, maestro!
This young man is the best guitarist on the planet. Merci beaucoup! ❤️
What a great interpretation. Inspiring! I’m relearning these preludes and this will definitely inform some of my choices. Thank you 🙏
Grazie Raphael, espressività e fraseggio da manuale ma allo stesso tempo completamente personali e nuovi. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Well that gets my morning off to a great start. He really brings out the harmonic content especially in the middle section.
Amazing performance! Intensely expressive, beautiful range of dynamics (and his discretion in utilizing dynamics), and masterful execution of technical parts. Absolutely love this man! I'd love him even more if he wasn't so young yet so brilliant!

Yeh...that's great playing, but, the real test...can he play "Louie, Louie?"
I love it when players milk Villa Lobos' pieces for their musicality and play them animatedly and dynamically, many classical guitarists seem to play bland renditions seemingly disregarding the wealth of melodic beauty in Villa Lobos' pieces, and there's certainly beautiful melodies in abundance with Villa Lobos' material.
Bravo, Raphael! Keep up the very good work!
Great performance, very beautiful guitar sound.
Très bonne interprétation. Bravo et merci.
What a beautiful interpretation. Thank you
Très belle interprétation, bravo!
Bellissima interpretazione! E pezzo suonato magistralmente.
So beautiful.🎸🎶😊❤
Best version I've heard. So clean! Bravo
Raphael has such an exquisite feel for the music. Beautiful touch and tone and expression. If you read this, thank you for doing what you do. Such a joy to see and hear you play.
WOW!!! Such "WONDERFUL INSPIRATION"!!!! To see a young man of "Color" performing such beautiful music...in a style which is so rare and untypical!!! I didn't believe my peers that played "CLASSICAL GUITAR" even existed!!! Sometimes you have to see something special to realize that something special can be done!!! This is.... SPECIAL!!! ...and DIFFERENT!!!! On a whole nother level!!! Coming from an "UNEXPECTED SOURCE"!!! We need much more of this!!! Thank you SO much Rafael for the motivation, and for stepping outside "BOX"!!!👍
This is a spectacular and moving performance
Very nice, very expressive, great inspiration!
Hermosa interpretación nostálgico y lastimero preludio, gracias por este joven talentoso guitarrista muchas felicidades.
Lovely interpretation. The Bouchet instrument has a wonderful tone.
The king of precision does it again, no personality lost, all skill gained
Very inspiring .. the guitarist , the interpretation and the guitar.
Fantastic performance !!! 🚀👍
wow....really brings the piece alive....great interpretation!
Bravo!!
Amazing !!!
A Boss. A Maestro. Thanks.
Bravo!

Me encanto el tema, gran interpretación. Nuevo sus.
Très belle interprétation, originale, audacieuse, vivante / émouvante, forte et sensible. Villa Lobos aurait applaudi.
I cannot get enough of his playing! He is so absorbed by the movement of the music. Each chord means a different thing to him and he responds with colour and expression. Each melodic idea fell perfectly into the next and his interpretation has an array of a unique personality. What a lovely piece for him as well.
Very poetic playing. Very nice!
Preciosa guitarra. Viva Villa-lobos!!
Exquisite. 🎆
Another amazingly musical interpretation from Raphael! I love it
Lovely
Love it! motivates me to try my own thing with this piece. If the pro's can do it, then i can 😎
Ah beautiful 😢😊 vive la France !
Excelente interpretación
Grande!
Muy bueno Villa Lobos.
I used to play all Villalobos preludes, and the way you play this is ... wow!! wonderful !!
wow this is an extraordinary performance, this guy’s expression is in another lvl, he understands the music perfectly
Dude, it's impossible to top this performance, we can close the case of Prelude 5 and go home. C'mon, it's illegal to play this good. You inspire generation of guitarists to play kazoo instead. Best interpretation of this piece in history, period.
well played!
La più bella interpretazione che ho sentito.
Stunningly well played with a lot of passion and musicality. No higher praise could I offer.
Wonderfuly played
formidable cette chanson de mon pays.

You have much great music from Brazil, Leonardo. Very fortunate to see the works in real time now. When I was young I had to look for lps and cassettes.

@@leonardofelipeguedes7574 That's a bit much, eh? I've been playing his pieces for 40 years, he's always been an extremely popular composer and long before the interweb. The interweb has made him more so but you can't have him all to yourself lol.

@@leonardofelipeguedes7574 Yes he was most prolific. Wrote lots of music. We, guitarists, think only of his guitar music but he wrote so much for other instruments piano, cello, brass etc. I very much like Piazzolla as well though he's of course from Argentina. Ah music, we are blessed.
Toute la magie de Villa Lobos est retranscrite dans cette interprétation parfaite. Bravo.
I have seen heard and read discussions of the meaning of saudade. I think this is a great answer to that question as an English speaker. It tells the listener everything they need to know about the meaning of the word.
So original...
The most musical I have heard this work
I've seen some other people rushing the calm parts and I don't like that. They also might make the bass notes more noticeable. He's one of the few who doesn't! love that he plays louder when the music needs it.
Huge tone.
Don't know if it's the recording or the instrument . . . but I'd like to hear him play this on a brighter sounding guitar.
Parabéns
I love the feeling he gives. Too many people sit (and play) like statues. Well done!
Brilhante
I like him most...
I don't get bored listening to him. And I often get bored listening to a lot of classical music.
Where I can find this transcription?

mmmmmm, nice.
Amazing performance! You know HVL!
Am I wrong or the lacquer of the soundboard is a bit matte? I mean that I like It but I'm also curious.

it looks like it may be French polished, rather than lacquered. A hard wax finish is an option too.

They put a protective sheet of something on it to prevent playing wear. It's a Bouchet so probably worth about £60,000 and then some.

Justin Holland (1819 - 1887) was the first Black classical guitarist, he made his reputation in the Boston and Cleveland areas of the United States; Elliot Novak has done an excellent introduction to him that was featured in the July/August issue of Guitarist, a publication of the Minnesota Guitar Society, an excellent read.

D'où peuvent bien venir les 42 dislike ?!!!!
Great technique and sound but to me the tempos of the various sections don't cohere. The middle section is too slow and pensive and the final section too fast. They sound like different pieces.
Toca super bem. Mas faltou expressão no _gliçando._
This piece is in compound duple - not triple - time, which has implications for rhythmic emphasis.
None like him...
The middle bit looked speeded up to me, filmed at a lower frame rate and then played at the normal frame rate and re-recorded. I am not sure but there was another player that speeded up video footage - his live playing didn't stack up - Marcin Pizarlec (can't remember the name exactly and therefore my spelling of the name is probably way off) I would have thought Siccas would be above such skulduggery but you never know the extent of their supervision of the recording sessions. I don't mean to be disrespectful, this guys playing is absolutely superb, but from 2:36 until 3:08 looks unnatural, the head movement especially. Change the speed in the settings and the head movement becomes more noticeable.
@Skinny_Karlos

What speed are you thinking, or what did you change it to? I didn't notice anything that way before but I'd be interested in 'having a look' and seeing 'what I see'. I'm not having a go. I want to see what you saw.

Its just the frame rate. Everything he does looks natural. He just plays extremely efficiently.
well played, but the expressions are so exagerated they feel misplaced. villa's music is modern, not romantic. passion comes in the right measure. played this way, sounds like someone spilling the beans...
È l'esecuzione più brutta che io abbia mai ascoltato. Completamente sbagliata.
