As a nail tech watching the show, why did Penelope have gel polish on in the 1800s and wearing siren white dots makeup just to end up being weak in the knees. This season writing is discounted from previous seasons.

​@@localabsurdist6661 I just finished episode one and was shocked to see their outfits. What are those? It's not 2017. This is supposed to be the 19th century. Her makeup at Lady Danury's ball looked SO much like 2018 baddie makeup. Like, what? Women did not have their eyeliner sleeked to high heavens. There was no Drunk Elephant blush or Butter Bronzers those days. I just found it too much. She did look pretty though. But period pieces should look like period pieces. Then again, some say we shouldn't take Bridgerton so seriously.

No because the super visible modern makeup on Francesca and Pen threw me so hard. Why?! It was so subtle in season one and even tho season two had more, it wasn’t as in your face as this season

I love it, though. 💅 I have too much fatigue from period dramas, always looking the same and by all accounts ‘right’ and time appropriate. I want heightened reality, I want the actors to feel glamorous and good in their roles. I can suspend my disbelief. I don’t go into Bridgerton expecting documentary-like accuracy. Girlies are still wearing corsets when putting empire chiffon dresses on, when all they need is some stays. Think they’re just Trying to do their best to create a romanticized version of the regency era while choosing the conflicts and sexism plot beats to deal with to keep a narrative. It isn’t a mistake, It’s a choice. Racism isn’t an issue in this world as much, I think it’s implied a bit in some bigoted characters, but it’s not. That’s a choice. It’s tough to reference real monarchs and time accurate customs without colonialism and some political waffling trickling in.

spoilers for season 3 belowwww I was so disappointed by the season. I haven't read the books but i have watched a content creator who narrated the whole story. And i did not like him and i hoped that this season wouldn't be faithful to the book because he is so horrible! in the show....he is so BORING and bland and there is nothin interesting about him. It felt so rushed and some people are saying they have great chemistry, Penelope has great chemistry with herself! I wanted Colin to crawl, choke, literally die of jealousy. Beg HER to kiss him not the other way around. I wanted Colin and Lord Debling to literally worship and lick the ground she walked on. Instead, it was Penelope chasing the men? explaining herself as to why she is such an amazing person. It was painful watching the first 2 episodes. And the carriage scene felt so awkward. I was team debling at some point but mr sir is also disappointing because every interaction kinda felt like...too many questions? Prove to me why i should like you? I dunno. I found him unpleasant and i dont know why. The show doesnt have that magical touch that was there. It felt sloppy, rushed, the directing of some scenes were so unenthusiastic. And guess what....the show has a different show runnerrrrrrrrrr!! Why!!!! But then again i have to question, was Penelope supposed to have a happy ending with Colin? (Considering what happened in the book) Because i am very open to accepting a possibility of them never working out and shonda decided to rewrite some events. I just don't like that Penelope has to over explain herself every turn and fold. And also edit: I do not know who colin isssss! Like, As you said, Anthony, has background, he has a goal. He wants to be dependable to evryone he loves. Colin? He is just a wanderer. He travels a lot and? Does he even know his family? Is he that close to his family? What else does he do? He writes a diary, okay? Like why don't you explore that he has a thing for writing because between Colin and Eloise....Eloise comes off as an author. Colin is just...Colin. No goal, no desire, no purpose, just a wanderer. Sorry for the rant. Just finished the show a few hours ago and I'm disappointed.

Agree! Watching him be a fuckboi and just yap and yap about how cool he was to the women of the ton was giving me massive ick. I feel like he was kind of an NPC and had no personality, but I had faith that the people that gave us Kanthony and Charlotte and George wouldn’t let me down. Honestly, the scene where Eloise came to Penelope’s house gave me butterflies and I ship Penloise more than Polin (AKA THE COUPLE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ROOTING FOR). This isn’t any hate to the actor btw since he’s just working with what he is given (and it shows he is trying his best). But what he is given lowkey sucks and is not enough. The lack of Polin in Polin’s season and the lack of Bridgerton family interactions in BRIDGERTON IS WILD.

I was disappointed, too, wondering if I was the only one who was left confused. Out of four hours, Collin and Pen got 31 minutes and 48 seconds. OUT OF 4 HOURS. Confusion is me because I'm still looking for the romance, the longing, the bane of my existence type of angst, and I got nothing. Nicola was charming and gorgeous and served with what she got to work with while Collin was there like a pretty porcelone man doll and gave us nothing. Where was the groveling? The male competition dor Pen's hand? I think the marketing team did a fantastic job, but the IG snippets we saw for weeks were more exciting than the show.

I agree, all colin did these episodes was listen to people swoon over him. very passive. And i feel like they've set up for the second half conflict to be that he finds out pen is whistledown, so i feel like he'll just be angry and the worshiping will also not be happening much in pt 2. but i'll wait and see

I agree with you! This season seemed to lack the substance to draw us in. It just didn't do it for me, but hopefully part 2 is better.

I was so disappointed in the trailer but I’m hoping I like it. I liked Penelope in the show but I absolutely do not want her with Collin and I want her to move on to the guy that looks like he actually likes her. It doesn’t even look like they addressed it.

I just watched the first two episodes (I don't know the books!). I hate the way Penelope is being treated by Colin and Eloise! The older ginger guy (Count Rebling) who was kind to Penelope would be a much better catch than the narcissistic Colin! Too bad Penelope did not see how kind and worthy of her attention he was! Rant away for me, too! So I don't have to do it :) Yes, you're so riught! It is irritating to see how Penelope keeps getting the short end of the stick for lack of self-respect! can't help sympathizing with her, though, as I love an underdog - her alter ego notwithstanding...

@@localabsurdist6661 I did! Till the end! Like being transfixed by a slow motion train wreck! Rebling turned out to be a dud and Collin and Penelope fall into each others arms... The characters are ALL awful - but what to expect from a drama centered on the upper crust of a society in an era of peak imperialism and sexism! I realize I like watching these things only for the sets and costumes and general eye candy and thank my lucky stars that as a white passing non-binary person I do not live in such a bigotted society that not even the mildly amusing color blind Shondaland casting cannot embellish, but somehow just makes worse!

The miscommunication trope is purely a vehicle to drive the plot. That's why it makes everyone annoyed because it has no basis in the actual storytelling/narrative. BTW if the book made you this aggravated, then wait till you see the show. You might throw your tv or computer out the window. I would have suggested reading the books *after* seeing each season but it’s too late now. 😅

Season 3 was SUCH a disappointment.

I agree but I think Fran is forgettable because this isn't her season just yet, and she is described as different to her extroverted siblings and it's clear she's also a socially anxious person, so I feel for her. Eloise was just MESSYYY in this, and I feel like I should do a whole video on just her in this season!
