500 Days is smarter than you’re giving it credit for. Part of the point is that you shouldn’t fall in love with someone based on superficial things like music taste. Did the movie have a point? Does a movie have to have a point in order to be good? I don't think so. I think 500 Days was an excellent movie, but not for the "point" you attribute to it. It was brilliant because it recreated the experience of being in love as it really is. It is almost more superficial to suppose you can choose who to fall in love with or to choose the criteria by which you fall in love and I wonder how much attention you paid to that movie. I notice the word "like" ... in other words, music is only one of the myriad "superficial" things. What else is on that list? What isn't on that list? When you meet someone, it is superficial things you notice because that is all you CAN notice? He fell for Zooey because she was whimsical and cute and spontaneous and dishy. She was the sum of parts, one of which was the fact that her favorite Beatle was Ringo. But yeah, second time watching it, she was so obviously a sociopath.
Two points of contention with Saw: 1. It was directed by an Asian dude 2. One of my old high school friends was a cheerleader and the Saw franchise is her favorite

First Saw movie was fresh and shocking at the time. Everyone talked about it
If you take the time to rewatch 500 Days Of Summer, it actually agrees with all the points your making about romanticizing other people based off of music interest. The movie is a commentary and critique of hipster culture making romantic decisions based off of consumerism and trendy aesthetics that don't correlate to true love or compatibility. People who decide to do that after watching the movie don't know the movie is making fun of them lol

Wait, u gotta watch 500 Days of Summer again, cuz its basically a cautionary tale about what happens when you date a girl cuz of her music taste and bangs, going thru the tropes of manic pixie dream girl and the naivety of men chasing them is the point of the film. they break up in the end cuz she saw it as a fling and he thought he was in love. But i agree it did damage to the people who didn't get the point lol With that being said tho, Fast and Furious and Hot Rod are absolutely better and are peak cinema

One of the biggest red flags I've come across when it comes to women is listing the Saw movies as some of their favorite movies. Just stay away from that girl. No exceptions. Just do. Future You will thank you.

Crazy, man. We would disagree on a lot when it comes to music... but on Team America: World Police??? I couldn't agree more. Absolutely one of the best movies ever made.
Honestly it's not just Team America - South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut also still holds up. Peak Trey Parker and Matt Stone were unstoppable. Comedies in general don't hold up because our cultural sense of humor changes pretty rapidly, so it's impressive when they do. Tropic Thunder and Anchorman also still hold up.

I worked with a grumpy boomer when one of the later Fast and Furious movies came out. He asked me if I had any weekend plans and told him I might see the new FF, he was dismissive and said something like "I'll never see any of those crappy remakes, the original one had John Ireland, you can't beat him."
I respect Finn more than ever, after putting 3 of my favourite movies as a teenager, into the S-tier. Bless you and your family Mr Punk Rock MBA 🙏
I think student filmmakers may do horror rather than comedy becuz a poorly done comedy is straight up painful. Your writing has to be on point or its gonna be crap. At least bad horror movies have jump scares so that teenage boys have an opportunity to put their arm around their date.
Finn Mckenty actually seems to enjoy what he does for once. Looks somewhat enthusiastic about this topic. Why doesn't he always produce content about topics he gives a damn about?
I love when I find pop references that happened in 2007 that I have no recollection of because I went to Iraq.
Your career as an "influencer" peaked with that rant about 500 days of summer. That's what perfection looks like. It's the Appetite For Destruction of film commentary, it's just too good to top. You may want to give serious consideration to having a clip of that played during your funeral service, many years from now.
I had never seen American psycho but tried to read the book and I seriously couldn’t do it. It’s pages and pages describing what every character is wearing that like… I get the point but I just couldn’t get through it. Too much man, too much
The Nathalie Portman bit hahhahaha . This is pure comedy we all can relate to. When are you doing a comedy set?
Finn you cheeky dawg showing the directors cut of the business card scene 😂
Damn why gotta do saw dirty that like that lol
Christ, it's good to hear someone speak well about American Psycho, but actually understanding the point of the movie.. I still don't understand how this movie could get so misunderstood 😂
Let’s not forget that trashy film ‘wild things’ that’s was basically soft core pron with the most absurd plot in the world.
I'm glad we share the same opinion on Hot Rod. Literally have seen in 100 times (at least). 100% favourite "film"
Don't forget the classic Monsturd about a murderous mutant poop man. His calling card was writing "Don't get caught with your pants down" on the wall with poop.
Saw one is actually a solid film
This was pre 80s nostalgia from the 2010s and pre 90s nostalgia of today. No no, 70s nostalgia was in. All those crappy movies that took 70s TV and rebooted. Starsky and Hutch. Dukes of Hazard. Charlie's Angels. SWAT. Taxi
Finn's take on Natalie Portman is s-tier lmao
Charlie's Angels is goated for them fighting Crispin Glover while playing Korn's Blind in the background
When the news spread of Kim Yong Il's death, my only thought was: 'gotta watch Team America!'

The big that makes young filmmakers specifically, students are usually drawn to horror because it’s honestly the most affordable genre to create. You can make horror with a super low budget and in the case of Hollywood films can have a huge profit. Saw had an increase from budget to profit of like 1000%
@ryshort7255
