He beat Jet 1v1 without using his bending, and took on multiple Earthbenders with just his swords. I don't think he used his bending at all when he got Aang out of prison either. The fact that he beat someone on this list 1v1 with no bending should automatically get him on this list.

I'll put Ty Lee as second after master Piandao. Ty Lee is exceptional when she has the advantage of surprise, but we have seen several times during the series that, once his adversary knows her tricks, her attacks can be avoided. Piandao, being a swordmaster has the further advantage of reach.

Sokkas arc is underrated as hell. A young immature kid forced to be the man of the house but not quite understanding the full picture. But he was humble enough to admit his faults like wirh Suki and the Kioshi Warriors. He was humble enough to admit his weaknesses and fix them.

No one is underrating sokka, in fact, he may be a tad bit overrated at some parts. But this is about master non bender skills. And he isn’t nowhere near the top. He may be good at planning things out, but he doesn’t stand a chance against the people ranked higher than him. In fact, I’d put June above him still

Also don't forget the growth he showed in chapter 3 when he went to go learn from a sword master. Chapter 1 Sokka would have bragged about being the sole defender of his village and the best warrior in the south pole. Chapter 3 Sokka simply bowed and said he knows he has a lot to learn and often wonders if he is even worth to learn from a master. From barely being able to form a sentence at the fire nation invasion briefing to heading up the attack once his father fell. Of all the characters we watched in ATLA, Sokka matured the most followed closely by Zuko.

There’s a pretty interesting theory that Ty Lee actually has air nomad ancestors. The reasons for this theory is that she is so light on her feet, uses a method of combat that disables/defeats opponents without actually hurting them, and she basically looks like a female Aang.

I think that may be why Ty Lee ranked above Piandao. Because, despite him taking on 100 soldiers, it’s off-screen action. These lists seem to only cover on-screen action. So it’s more of what we see and not what we speculate

Also i personally think that asami should be lower than mai considering that she is more skilled than her in combat and could dismantle asami without getting up close and personal

He didn’t really. During his fight with Piandao, his moves were erratic and uncoordinated compared to Piandao who was more precise. And I believe in a comic Zuko and Sokka dueled with swords and Zuko won every match.

​​​@@MindBursterzshould have put a "Honorable Mentions" list, these 3 are 100% confident in their Combat Abilities with or without Bending, Azula is not that Far Behind Ty Lee & Mei as seen during the Eclipse and many other occasions, Zuko took on a serious Jet and still managed to Overpower Him while not being too serious Himself and Iroh can literally Bend Steel bars with His bare hands which we saw the aftermath of During the Eclipse, not to mention His Clearly been shown to have a General interest in martial arts outside His own Element hence His discovery of Lightning redirection I know this list is about none Benders but the emphasis is on their fighting abilities which is unique cause 99% of the Benders in the series including our main characters have shown they are defenseless without their Bending Abilities

The strongest team for most of the show was all female, and two out of three were not benders. The second is a balance that severely lacks in Legend of Korra, where bending superpowers are cheap and non benders had no chances.

Worth noting also that Ty Lee's agility and acrobatic skills are literally superhuman. Granted, in Avatar displays of superhuman physical ability are perhaps not rare like in our world.

Piandao took on an army of firebenders during sozin’s comet and was schooling all of them. Put Ty Lee after Mai at 3rd and I’m happy.

@@gamersreactions9267 Yes, I too would put Piandao as number 1. I can see that the uploader clearly has forgotten what happened after each clip. Ty Lee told to Mai to get out of there and they BOTH were CEASED like 3 seconds after. It's amazing how Ty Lee seem to dominate benders but was easily caught up after she knocked Azula. I honestly don't think the fights for each non-bender is a valid feat because the lore is clearly against them. Surely we can say that they were dictated to lose even when they have shown feats to beat the odds but such is the lazy writing. It's unfortunate, really. I like Ty Lee's personality and no I don't mean THAT personality. I mean really THE personality. But my favourite character remains as Azula, always.

I would've love if you had Ty-Lee and Suki at 1A and 1B. I mean Suki trained all her life as a warrior.

I think special mentions should be added with Zuko using only swords/as the blue spirit as he was a bender, but didn't use it and Amon taking out many people without using water bending/bloodbending. Yes, some speculate he used bloodbending to know what others were doing so he could dodge it, but in general it seems like fought just fine without any bending. Also Bataar Jr. and Verrick should be added as being a genius being able to build something strong/destructive can also be seen as powerful. I mean, look at the mecha suit, the spirit canon, some of the battle suits we saw in season 1 and 4, etc

I love "Chai" blocking and "Tough" my favorite earth bender

They didn't have as many non-benders highlighted through Legend of Korra, at least in terms of fighting because unlike AtLA, the world was for the most part at peace so they didn't have to. Just Asami & the Equalists. Bumi (LOK) wasn't shown fighting anyone until the Red Lotus came after the Airbenders. He was a bender at that point, but most of his fighting seemed to come from his years of being a non-bender & was only shown once. His encounter with a spirit wasn't really much of a fight. Asami's father never fought anyone without a mech suit & he mostly just charged at them & used the mech's weapons, unlike someone else who could have at least had an honorable mention. The one who should have had an acknowledgement of some kind, even though she used a mech suit in her fight, she was doing so against others in mechs, and that would be Zhu Li. It's clear from that one fight that she was already pretty skilled at fighting. She didn't just use the weapons, she was kicking with it too. It made me wish we could have had a chance to see her really be part of the fight at times. She was also very smart (no, I don't think it was dumb that she still had the part of the canon on her when she was caught by Kuvira. She may not have had time to get rid of it). There is a reason that Varrick named his battleship after her.

Unfortunately LOK lacks balance. Bending superpowers (lightning-bending, metal-bending) are cheap (that doesn't make sense. During the war to be a skilled bender was a life-death advantage, why benders should be stronger in peacetime?) and non benders don't have a chance. In ATLA the stronger team for most of the series was 2-3 non-benders.

For me I would place Suki first, and then Ty Lee. The scariest thing about it , is that they're still very young. The new film coming out with be a great way to assess how much stronger and skilled has Sokka become, I would dare say that in his 20's he would be the best.

Personally, despite her chi blocking, I think that Piandao would still beat Ty lee in most scenarios, before being trained by the Kyoshi warriors. Her agility and speed are impressive but not being proficient with weaponry puts her at a significant disadvantage against Piandao. Even after having joined the Kyoshi warriors I still feel like it would be a tough fight, for both. Piandao should be number 1 imo.

This show demonstrated to kids of our generation that you don't have to be born with a special gift to succeed. Sure, other around you may have an easier time of it. Yeah, I was thinking about him too. Imagine what kind of crime could land a non-bender like him into White Lotus prison. He must've been pretty OP.

I cannot agree to any list that doesn't Have Ty Lee at number 1... she is essentially the cheat character of the show... legit I think she could 1v1 anyone in all of Avatarverse (except Toph)

​@@kurtis521 youre just objectively wrong. Ty Lee is absolutely broken, but i doubt she could ever hit Piandao. He was destroying hundreds of firebenders during sozins comet with ease. He would just dodge every attack Ty Lee brings.

Pretty much agree with the list. Though in some ways I find sokka more impressive,. He is ranked roughly right on your list, but the dude grew up super rural in the middle of nowhere water tribe. If he had been born a later time, or in Asami's position where would he be. Despite mostly being used for comic relief he is probably the smartest character on the list and not by a small margin, he just was born in a situation with no opportunity to grow it.

I’d have Sokka a bit higher on the list. If you compare his fighting prowess at the beginning of the series and at the end, there is an order of magnitude of improvement. He demonstrated in his brief time training with both Suki and Piandao that he has a high aptitude for mastering new fighting styles very quickly and while Mai is very precise with her throwing weapons, I would argue that Sokka’s feats with his own throwing weapons match if not surpass hers. He took out combustion man with his boomerang and took out two comet enhanced fire benders with his boomerang and sword (something that is not intended to be used as a throwing weapon) while hanging on to toph for dear life to keep her from falling to her death. Oh, and he also had a broken leg

I feel like Sokha went from 12th on the list to 5th throughout his character progression

Did Sokka ever get his space sword back in the comics? That thing was awesome

The funny thing about Avatar Kyoshi is that she was the founder of the Kyoshi style of martial arts. None of the Kyoshi Warriors including Suki would be what they were if it weren't for her. She was not only an Amazon woman (Roughly between 6'5" and 7 feet tall), she was also an excellent martial artists. She may not have been a non-bender; obviously she's the Avatar. But she seems like the type who was trained to really hold her own even if she were to have her bending taken from her. Her sheer size and ferocity alone would make her the greatest hand to hand combatant and Chi blocker and trained to counter any potential Chi blocker. While also still maintaining her excelling bending prowess. A true ultimate force to be reckoned with indeed. And yeah, Suki and Ty Lee are basically the two who'd old the title of strongest non-benders, but neither one of them would be what they were without Kyoshi. But if comics were included, Tokuga deserves a mention. He was more than a match for 5 Chi Blockers while duel wielding swords and had the superior agility to make him evenly matched with Avatar Korra.

Sokka should be top 3 his a straight up genius

The only reason Ty Lee is #1 is because she is a street fighter Against any opponent who is wearing light armor she wouldn't be able to use chi blocking and would thus be useless

The Lieutenant kinda deserves to stand out from the rest of the equalists. He tore through everyone like it was child's play. Only two people in the entire first season actually beat him in a fight. Amon, who hit him from afar using blood bending, and Asami (who went through him in like 2 seconds flat).

Ty Lee being in first is absolutely correct!. Even master benders face the possibility of losing to her.

I would argue that Sokka is stronger then jet. Mostly because sokka may have gotten stronger as jet has passed away and sokka was able to get more exp

Jet was stronger in the beginning. By the end of the show I agree Sokka was the greater warrior.

He was on par strictly in fighting terms but jet was one of the very few superhuman characters in the series. Sokka doesn't even come close.

So basically every single person here can take on a bender. Anyone not on the list can’t. Or as capable alone.

I kept thinking where's Zuko, fully forgetting that he's also a great fire bender cause he's such a cool and strong martial artist too

Iroh even without his bending took out a group of earthbenders with his hands tied in chains.

Zaheer without his airbending probably fought like Ty Lee without the chi blocking.

In my opinion zaheer should be there too, maybe he is bender, but earlier he was a nonbender, he is not only skilled in hand to hand combat, the fact that he mastered air bending so easily just shows how talented he was

Zuko could be on this list. Even without bending he managed to beat Sokka in a sword fight

The archers would outmatch the warriors easily and their agility feats are pretty much unmatched only rivaled by Jet and Tai Lee. These 3 characters should be ranked in top 5 at least.

​@@akinwaleseun4205Not really, she would lose in a intense one on one battle since her weapon is limited to the range, it's only applies to enemy near her. Mai also showcase faster movement than her especially when she throwing her blades.

Just curious, even though Zuko is a fire bender, where would you rank the Blue Spirit since he only uses swords and never fire bending?

I think sokka should be placed higher I mean the kid is a swordmaster, had knowledge on both northern and southern water tribe fighting techniques plus kyoshi warrior training

Sokka really is underrated. With experience he would turn into a master fighter.
