Mine is 1. FFX 2. FFVII 3. FFVI 4. FFIV 5. FFII 6.FFXII 7. FFXV Thats all I have played

FF8 is not only THE most underrated game in the series, but it has the best OST in the entire series- Eyes on Me, Fisherman’s Horizon, Love Grows, Liberi Fatali, The Man With the Machine Gun. The fact that every time someone brings up FF8’s OST they mention different songs just proves how solid the entire OST is. FF8 is TOO slept on.

FFX just hits different. It went smoothly with the whole game. It’s like a whole different story within the music.

No wonder: FFX had 3 different composers, bringing Masashi Hamauzu (FFXIII) and Junya Nakano (FFXI) alongside Uematsu.

Respect for putting FF1 in the top 4...Matoya's Cave, Gurgu Volcano, Main Theme (overworld), Airship Theme, Cornelia Castle, Town Theme, etc. A lot of nostalgia...Good stuff! 👍

Such a breath of fresh air to see someone that appreciates something about every FF I'd love to see your ranking for the FF logos, I feel like the beautiful art isn't talked about enough

Thanks a lot. Yes I am passionate about each game in the series. It’s funny you mention that because that is my next Ranking video plan since that’s all I can do right now to incorporate FFXVI as well.

But the Junc- 8 is fine, the music and story’s good, but the battle system... just doesn’t click with me. But I wouldn’t call it a bad game, i just think that 7 is better

@@dirkdiggler2218 no joke, I went back and played 8 for a few hours tonight, and I’ve got to say: it’s probably now my 3rd favorite ff. I love the world, the musics really good (Fisherman’s horizon is a masterpiece, even though I haven’t gotten to that part of the game yet, I still love the song) the gameplay I’ve warmed up to a little bit more, and overall I think it’s a pretty good game, I think that it is overhated sometimes

Not going to lie, you made me tear up when you were talking about uniting everyone to loving Final Fantasy II. I've always adored that game, it's one of my favorites! I loved hearing your opinions! I have FFIV much lower on my list (and FF3 is my number 1 hahaha), but this was a phenomenal video man. Keep it up!

Personally I love ffxv's soundtrack, to me it just always felt epic

XV’s soundtrack is great! I’d love to see Yoko Shimomura compose another mainline game.

I think VIII should take the #1 spot. Fisherman’s Horizon, Eyes On Me, The Castle, Succession of Witches, Liberi Fatali (the best intro in the entire series), the Triple Triad theme, ugh. So many good songs. But hey, fair enough. #2 isn’t bad at all and that’s your personal taste. I need to find a platform where I can play FFIV. On another note, Im playing through XV for the first time right now and honestly it deserves its spot just for the music that plays when you fight the giant monsters like Midgarsormr, Catoblepas, Behemoth, etc. The bells with the choir in the first few seconds is super epic and really make you think “wow this is going to be a tough fight”

When considering both quantity and quality, FF8 would be number 1. Four discs of music that is all top notch. FFIV is a shorter soundtrack, but each track feels like it belongs among the greats. FFIV can be played on Steam and mobile. It’s the 3D remake and it’s remastered ost is awesome. If you have a PS3 or PSVita/TV, you could buy the FF Chronicles collection for very cheap, or download the HD Complete Collection respectively. FFIV is one of my favorite games. Thanks for watching!

Love seeing someone appreciate the older FF OSTs. I'll have my all time favorite or maybe a top 3 but after that it's so difficult to rank where goes where lol You really can't go wrong with any of the soundtracks for the games in this franchise, they're all masterpieces

I'm pleased as punch to see FFII's soundtrack so high. I played it for the first time recently and was stunned by how much I like the music. Definitely my favorite FF soundtrack out of the games I've played (I haven't played VIII or IV).

FFII means a lot to me. It’s so amazing how emotional the music is for a 1988 RPG. FFIV typically gets that praise, and it should, but FFII is so under appreciated. That’s awesome to hear praise from another fan. Also, love the profile pic!

I have only played FF 7,8,9,10 so far, but Im so glad most video's rank the music in 8 very high, the soundtrack is one of my favorite and most nostalgic music from any game! Edit: since then I played 12 and half off 13, a few hours of 15, and 12 also had banger soundtrack especially Gilgamesh and that later game place in the snow

FFXV’s album is just amazing, including the DLCs and it’s such a surreal experience when you play a track and know *exactly* where you were, in the game when you heard it. Dewdrops at Dawn is a must-have at my wedding. I have a soft-spot for 7, particularly Tifa’s theme and then I’d have to say 6.

If you’re going to play FFXV music at your wedding, then you definitely have to dress as Noct and Luna!

Iconic to say all things fade about Nobou on X considering the dream will end is also on that OST. FF8 was the first rpg I saw as a kid and shares benevolent memories with my childhood.

That's a good question. I know that I love the OST, but I haven't played that one in so many years. I'll have to make another video sometime regarding ranking spinoff soundtracks. Also, thanks for the compliment!

You are the exact opposite of a toxic fan. This was genuinely refreshing and I loved every minute of this. Also, I appreciate that Sunken Shrine from FFI is your favorite on that album. FFIV was my favorite game in the series because it was my first. So glad to see it get some love! :)

Yes I love FF Tactics. I’m not sure where I would rank. I would need to listen to the OST again. It’s been a while. I’ve considered doing a video similar to this but for spin-offs.

ff XIII soundtrack just hits difrent

I really thought The Dark Messenger and overworld theme from ff9 alone would have elevated it to top 5 but I really respect your selections. I am playing 2 pixel remastered now and I see the hype. The song you chose from 1 is also my favorite.

VIII will always have a special place in my heart.

Good question. I honestly love each version of FFIV. I don't think there's ever been a bad one. I DO recommend the 2D version before the 3D remake though. They changed some things that I don't agree with. The most accessible 2D version is the Pixel Remaster, which is great. If anyone has access to the original, GBA, or PSP versions, they're also fantastic. One note about the "original" though. The SNES version we got in America is actually a simplified/easier port, but the PS1 port in "Final Fantasy Chronicles" is the official English port of the original JP version.

It’s really hard to rank them because one thing that is always right with all Final Fantasy games is the music, but thinking of soundtracks that I’m always listening to I can come up with a top 3: 1- Final Fantasy VIII 2- Final Fantasy IX 3- Final Fantasy XV

Only played 2 so far for this series (Vii and X) but love the soundtrack of these games, and with rebirth released, it definitely up there.

So I wanted to make it as fair as possible. XIV has multiple libraries of music and I didn’t want to have to compare that to the other games that only have one single soundtrack.

8 and 15 are my faves for sure

It's too hard for me to rank. I am pretty excited the OST's are on Spotify now. I've been listening pretty non stop since they were.

Every FF debate ends with me saying FFVIII has the best OST and folks usually agree. I like 12 ost as well but 8 is fav.

I honestly think only considering FFXIV 1.0's soundtrack is doing the game a massive disservice. I don't know whether you played the expansions of course, but if you have, where would you rank the game's soundtrack in its entirety now?

I understand what you’re saying. The only reason I did is because I felt it would be unfair to the other games to have several libraries worth of music to compare against them. If I did consider the complete soundtracks of XI, XIV, and even XV with its expanded OST, it would be a different list probably. I’m sure my ranking has naturally changed since I made this video. After FFXVI I will consider doing an updated version counting absolutely everything for each game. My favorite FFXIV OST is probably Stormblood. I’ve made vids about my favorite FFXIV songs from each expansion (1.0-Stormblood).

@@optimysticquest Ah, I see. I guess that makes sense in a way. I'd probably have added at least ARR, as 1.0 is not playable any more of course, but it does seem fair. Yeah, I've watched your Heavensward and Stormblood videos in the meantime. Glad to see you appreciate Soken as much as the rest of us haha I don't know how he continuously tops himself, but he does. I'm really looking forward to hearing everything he has done in FFXVI.

I know I'll get crucified for saying this, but FFXIII is prob my favorite FF soundtract and is one of the most under appreciated (aside from the battle theme) Vestige comes to mind as a great track.

Why did you only include 1.0 and not A Real Reborn for ffxiv? Just curious.

I did that because if I included ARR I would need to include the other expansions. I felt that all that music would make it unfair. I did the same for FFXI.

@@souldanny. no problem! And just so you know, If I had to redo this list today FFXIV would be higher. I re-listened to 1.0’s soundtrack recently and loved it more than I ever have.

Okay so I was mad at you for putting VI way down in 5th place, but then you gave FFIV the top spot and I forgave you haha. That game might be the definitive game/story of my childhood. I look back and wonder why...and it was just such a great combination of music, story, and proper use of archetypes and mythological storytelling. It has so many parts of the hero’s journey in it. Leaving your homeland on an adventure, the descent into the underworld, and even an ascent into the heavens. It has love, loss, betrayal, revenge, redemption, and sacrifice. It was the perfect narrative at that time in my life, nothing else came close to engrossing me in its story before that and hooked me forever on RPGs, few have captured that same magic since.

When you have so much incredible music, it’s very difficult to rank lol. FFIV is also incredibly important to my childhood and overall love for FF and RPG’s. Anything else at that time was just a toy or a game-no big deal. Final Fantasy IV was much more than that, and still is. A true breakthrough in video game storytelling (even though I still love the NES FF’s for all they accomplished too).

I like FF3 OST a lot. It has that perfect out-of-time'ish fairytale vibe. Childish, dreamy, nostalgic, maybe even ethereal. P.S. My favourite FF music is still from the 1, 2 and 4.

So happy that somebody else sees the brilliance of FFII. The soundtrack is incredible, hopelessness is rampant in every note, every piece of dialogue with NPCs and characters. So many tragic things happen, I mean these characters get put through the ringer. You almost pity the heroes for continuing to push on and make it one more day because it all seems so hopeless. It’s a beautiful game, and one that doesn’t get enough appreciation in the series. However, all that being said...I can see why everyone shits on it. The gameplay. While I actually like the level up system, the magic system singlehandedly makes this game near unplayable to me. It’s just so damn tedious trying to level up all your spells in battle. And you can’t even do it “on the go” in dungeons because you need to conserve your mp for healing, so the only viable option is to camp outside of dungeons and level it up. It puts the pacing of the game to a grinding halt and just makes it not fun. Imo if the magic system was normal, FFII would easily be top 5 in the series, maybe even top 3 for me. But because of the magic system it sits near the bottom of my rankings. Though it is awesome to see you praise it so much because it really does have so much going for it that, in some ways, makes it a deeply flawed masterpiece. I feel like II is very similar to XIII in a way. Both games are hated so much by fans, but both also have so much going for them, with just one or two game breaking issues that really hurts it. Flawed masterpieces.

Nick P good points here. Both II and XIII I initially didn’t like when I first played, but grew to love both. I did a thorough FFII review if you want to check it out. It was my first video. And yes I do think the magic system could have been balanced better. I just see it as an RPG in 1988 being so far beyond its competition. I love the soul of the game. One that hasn’t quite been replicated

@@optimysticquest ff7r’s ost, is amazing, it puts new life in the originals songs, while also putting in new great original tracks.

aww I'd put the FFX soundtrack MUCH higher. I think FFX nails the music department out of the park. To Zanarkand is so good its used in so so so SO many youtube video game review videos and other misc. "To Zanarkand" has become culturally engrained and ubiquitous along with other big well known themes.

I feel like ff13 not anytime soon but at somepoint needs to be sorted and rehashed because its tragic to see what could have been an amaing ff game fail. I loved the concept but the actul gameplay... 😬 (I liked the battle systme and how the summoms worked aswell tho and obv the soundtrack)

I don’t care what anyone says, FFXs soundtrack is truly phenomenal. I think the top tracks in Xs soundtrack are To Zanarkand, A Fleeting Dream, Otherworld, Suketi da ne, Hymn of the Fayth, Sprouting, Wandering Flame, Servants of the Mountain, Challenge, The Truth Revealed, Battle Theme, Enemy Attack, Challenge, A Contest of Aeons, Battle, Final Battle, Ending Theme, Yuna’s Theme, Yunas Deicison, Jecht’s Theme, Auron’s Theme,, Lulus Theme, Moment of Truth, Face Off, Run!!, Thunder Plains, Bravely Forward, Pursuit, Besaid Theme and all the tracks relating to Seymour: They May Pass, Seymour’s Theme, Seymour’s Ambition, Patricide, The Unsent Laugh and especially Fight With Seymour.

Aww I thought FF9's soundtrack was perfection. What you said about FF9's OST having too much filler is exactly what I thought about FF7's OST. I mean, people only remember FF7's OST for the standouts, but forget about the mediocre tracks like Fort Condor, North Corel, the cave theme, the original Sephiroth theme, a bunch of songs from Midgar slumps, the worst boss battle theme in gaming history and a victory theme that sounds weird AF. As much as I love FF6, I also found the soundtrack to have a lot of fillers, and I'm disappointed that you ranked FF9's below both FF6's & FF7's. I do agree that FF4's OST would be somewhere near the top though. It definitely has the best soundtrack in the SNES era imo.

I think you make valid points. FF7 does have filler. That’s why I said this seems to be an issue after the 2D games. FF9’s felt much more obvious to me because it was by far the largest soundtrack at the time of its release. Even though something may be ranked lower doesn’t mean I dislike it. FFIX has my second favorite track in the series with “You’re Not Alone”, only behind “Main Theme” from Final Fantasy II (original).

I agree with most of your list but the Final Fantasy 5 soundtrack was too low, from start to finish it had many great tracks. I think it is required for you to listen to it again.

I think you’re absolutely right. It does have many great tracks from start to finish. It’s tough when you’re ranking 15 of the greatest video game soundtracks ever. That’s why i said in the intro that even last place I absolutely love. Which are your favorite tracks from FFV?

@@optimysticquest Pirates Ahoy, Fate in Haze, Nostalgia, Four Warriors, Bridge Battle, New World, The Decisive Battle, and probably others I missed. But there is one track called Unknown Lands, it is my fave one it's like it takes me to another world.

Personally, I think the OST for the FFXIII trilogy is in a separate league from all the other FF titles. Nearly every song fits perfectly into the situation and does a tremendous job at creating the proper mood and atmosphere (especially in FFXIII:LR). Imo, the FFs prior to FF7 shouldn't even be on these types of lists, as I think a lot of the judgement is based on pure nostalgia rather than actual music quality. :)

I do think FF13 fits atmosphere well. I have to strongly disagree with your stance on FF1-6 though. FF4 probably hits perfect atmosphere better than any other OST. While I do feel a lot of nostalgia with those games, I think the music is objectively excellent. Some of the most memorable melodies come from those games.

I find it far more difficult to rank the soundtracks over the games in general.

I honestly feel like every soundtrack in the main series improved on the one before it, up until FF10, which I don’t think was anywhere near as good as FF9’s.

FF5 soundtrack was amazing. ☹

I'm not a Final Fantasy fan. I tried most of them, and didn't like most of them. But yes, FF2 has an amazing soundtrack that often gets looked over because of the "ooga booga hit yourself to get stats and trap doors in dungeons so absolutely everything in the game bad" mentality.

It still is impressive to me how much emotion FFII's soundtrack is able to conjure. Main Theme of FFII (NES Version) is still my favorite track in the series.

I agree that FF4 has the best soundtrack. I would have said FF1, FF6 has the second and third.

I can agree with 4 being at the top but the low ranking for 6 is absolutely ridiculous. For me 4 and 6 would share that top spot as it would be like trying to compare and rank a sunset and a sunrise. Its not possible.

For this list I only considered the original FFXIV. Or else I would have ranked FF14 higher.

FFXII ranked so low in the list is a crime

The hardest thing about making this list is knowing that soundtracks I love still have to be at the bottom. I do love each soundtrack in the series.

Its highs are among the highest for sure. The only reason I don’t have it higher is due to the amount of filler tracks I don’t care about as much. FFIX has my second favorite ff song though.

@@optimysticquest That's understandable. FFIX definitely has a "quality over quantity" mindset. The few amazing songs are breathtaking. I love the theme of Terra and Necron's and Kuja's battle themes are some of the best boss themes.

Why would you rank 10 that high it’s obvious that ffx has the best sound track cmon 10 really it should be in the top 3 I not trying to be mean but it is the best one yet 7 can’t match up to it not even 6

That’s why I said at the beginning how hard it is to rank these. I love them all. Wandering Flame from FFX is a top five favorite track in the entire series, so it is very special to me

Wow FFIX OST is way too low especially according to the fact that i Uematsu considers it to be its masterpiece...Frankly FF13 and FF15 music better than 9 🤣🤣?

I rank based on what I like best overall as a soundtrack. “Best” means nothing to me because it’s just glorified opinions anyway. Same way I wouldn’t say 9 14 and 5 are my favorite FFs like Sakaguchi would probably state as his.
