Derbys and Showdowns are my personal favs. When there’s only 2 teams in a state, the whole state is split in half with footy.. work,school etc. it’s really a elite thing

All I can tell you is that whenever there is a derby the whole of Perth is talking about it for a month

Dons v saints and dons v Roos rivalry’s are both one way rivalries. I can’t remember who it was but an Essendon player some years ago pointed that out ahha “For them it’s a bit of a rivalry build up but for us it’s just another game”

My favourite is the showdown and Richmond and Carlton to kick off the season in Melbourne

Should be more than one in top tier. Collingwood and Essendon is a brutal rivalry and Hawthorn and Essendon is always a good watch unfortunately haven't seen any brawls since abut 2015 but a fierce rivalry nonetheless

Definitely a rivalry started I’d say. It’s always been close games (for the most part) and it’s exciting to see

Dons v blues goes back to the early 1950’s. Blues FullBack whacked John Coleman in the nuts and then Coleman knocked him out and got suspended for the GF. Essendon lost by a goal to Geelong. Essendon have hates the blues ever since

Being a Sydney fan, you’re definitely right that we all hate Collingwood much more than GWS. Obviously we still want to smash the giants but we also want to grow footy in NSW. Which is helped if we are both good. Also I reckon u missed out a Sydney - Geelong rivalry that’s been quite big since the start of the century. Two very consistently good teams.

Only Fremantle fans care about Carlton Vs Freo, we have far more dislike for Richmond. I'd argue Melbourne-Carlton is more a rivalry, last two years we've had some really close encounters, including that Semi Final, plus there is all that history with Barassi looming over both clubs.

You forgot the match in 2014 where Fremantle beat Carlton by 5 points.

The fact that the showdown isn't in Top tier is absolute rubbish. It's the only rivalry in the AFL with genuine hatred from both teams. Not to mention the entire state of SA is fully invested in the showdown.

Essendon vs Collingwood is the best rivalry. The fact that it is held on Anzac Day means it clears Collingwood vs Carlton

as a blues supporter, no way is freo a bigger rival than richmond. i would put it in decent. I think freo fans hate us so much more than we hate them. carlton couldn't care less about freo because 1 we have 3 bigger rivals and 2 we always beat them in all our games.

Overall they wouldn’t be but I honestly think as of right now there’s more of a rivalry and that’s probably more on freos side for how much they now hate the blues

freo v carlton is very one sided. most blues fans dont care about it

West Coast Collingwood definitely a rivalry. Many close finals and games. Its not that heated, but close. WC Sydney huge in the mid 00s. I'd also argue Showdown might be the most spiteful rivalry. Its almost like Port vs the rest of SA (the whole history of how Port and the Crows entered the AFL, the SANFL stuff, Norwood etc). Games usually close, close h2h. Derby is more one sided historically.

NGL cardy, as a fan of the blues feeling a bit ashamed that blues v Richmond is in the good tier. I bloody hate the tiges and cannot stand their fans as well as that we pack out the mcg a lot with huge crowds and a great atmosphere. Plus lots of the blue baggers I know hate Richmond so much so I reckon that it should have been in fantastic tier above Sydney v gws behind the cats v hawks rivalry.
