Love the theme of your list. You seem very knowledgeable about the horror genre, but watch "Creepshow" and a few others before making your next list on the Horror Anthology subject for it might bump it up a notch. I am 66 years old and have been a horror film fan since I was 6 years old, and I am saddened that younger people like yourself cannot sit and watch a black and movie. It is a shame, and you should investigate the older movies to see how we got where we are. And being a gore/slasher fan, you should study some of the Gialio films a bit more to see how slasher films got to where they are. Great list, but study the older films. You will be pleasantly surprised. I share many of your appraisal except that I never cared for the vampire genre, and I still don't think anyone topped the silent version of Nosferatu.

@@balldalt Oh, yeah, definitely, MACHINE HORROR 🤖could have been another sub-genre on this tier list. And besides "Megan," some others that would definitely fit into that sub-genre are: "Death Machine," "Chopping Mall," "Maximum Overdrive," "The Terminator," and "Child's Play" 2019.

Giallo films are pretty much slashers, and were mostly big in the 70's. Most slashers from the 80's copied from gialli, not just Halloween. Friday the 13th borrows quite a few of it's kills from Mario Bava's A Bay of Blood. Not all of Italian horror is a giallo. Suspiria and The Beyond are more supernatural than giallo. Some giallo films came out in the 60's but in that decade there was also the German Krimi, which are more Scooby Dooish. People also like to come up with the sub-genre American Giallo, with films like Alice Sweet Alice and Dressed to Kill falling under that list.

Yes, it was. She creeped me out the whole movie.. For some reason, I just had such a weird and eerie feeling every time it lingered on her face and eyes. Idk why, but it gave me a bad feeling. Lmao 😂😂

It's awesome that your daughter is also a horror fan🤩 I absolutely love psychological horror, slashers and horror comedies, but these past few years I'm glad I've explored other horror subgenres because I've discovered some new favourites, like The Lost Boys, The Thing, Train to Busan, 28 Days Later and Lake Mungo!

Love the ranking!! It's always cool to see someone else's take on the subgenres and give you a different perspective, and totally agree with your take on horror vs thriller. I may be on an island but I love found footage 😂 It's a Take My Money personally. The one subgenre that makes me feel like I'm there with the characters, which amplifies the horror for me. Other than that and Kaiju (not for me, but I can appreciate what it brings to the table), I agree with the ones you placed in I'd Rather Chew Glass (altho I did watch the first two Human Centipedes out of morbid curiosity. Never again).

The most annoying part is when people call Jaws a thriller, which makes no sense. There’s no thrills in that movie

My favorite genres are psychological and Paranormal. These tend to be the movies that unnerve me most. Also good calling out the people who call horror movies thrillers.

Love these tier lists! Slasher and vampire are also my most favorite sub-genres and I’d stick creature in there too. Jeepers Creepers is in my top 10 horror movies. I agree with your placement of cannibal and backwoods, I too can’t get into those. HOWEVER! I really want to recommend a new Tubi original called Lowlifes. I was shocked at how good it was! Especially being a Tubi original. Like it’s a crime that it’s free! Takes those sub-genres and flips them on their head. And has a barbarian/ Cobwebb style twist too!

I love these tier list rankings, Cody! You should make an "Entry to Horror" tier list focusing on the movies that would get younger viewers into the horror genre! (Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, Don't Look Under the Bed)

Great list, especially with Psychological on top, that is easily my favorite horror subgenre. I do wish you thought of cosmic/eldritch horror because there are so many cool, scary and good movies in that subgenre like; The Mist, In the Mouth of Madness, The Ritual, Annihilation, Cloverfield, Event Horizon, Underwater and I would even somewhat categorize Evil Dead in this subgenre seeing as the monster comes from old times.

I'd love to see you do a tier list of horror decades, starting with the 70s until present day.

Loved the cameo from the kiddo, reminds me of my own daughter who LOVES horror movies. Such a great video, and easily one of the most fun. I also cannot really get into giallo style films. I don't despise them but i wouldn't ever buy them for my collection either. I prefer tense, atmosphere building, and unnerving horror the most because i love movies that legitimately scare me and give me nightmares. That's not to say i don't also like horror comedies or other mish mashes, but my ideal is a serious movie that just aims to scare people and really get under their skin and i have found a lot of those across a wide variety of sub genres.

Cody, have you seen Creep? I normally hate found footage too but that one really works for me

And if I were to do this subjectively, I think that’s missing the point of doing this kind of thing. We all have different opinions and perspectives on film, so it’s enjoyable to share those opinions and perspectives.

Maybe I’ve gone in too deep, but for every slasher film I like there’s another I find okay, and two more I absolutely hate. It is a very mixed bag of quality when I don’t really care about the kills, because in all honesty other horror and action films have way cooler deaths. So kills are not really gonna sell me on a slasher movie

If I were to watch a great werewolf movie like An American Werewolf in London or a mediocre slasher film like Child’s Play 3, I’d go with the great werewolf film. That’s because a great movie is a great movie. My list just happens to be the horror subgenres that I like the most. At the end of the day, these kind of videos are fun to give your opinions and see what others list as their favorite and least favorite of something.

Two good werewolf movies in my opinion are the howling and howl from I think 2015. Howl takes place in the middle of the woods trapped on a broken down train, maybe for a comedy wolf movie is wolfcop

Currently at the cannibal section of this video, and I'm curious if you would classify Bones and All in this subgenre? If I remember correctly you were pretty positive on it back when it came out in 2022, but at the same time it is much more of a romance film rather than something like The Green Inferno. Yeah, I don't watch them as often as I used to but sometimes I just need to watch a messed up movie that's going to truly disturb and challenge me. You definitely don't forget them. I still remember watching August Underground Mordum and being physically sick to my stomach after and wondering, "why the fu*k did I just watch that"? 😂

I've never been a huge werewolf fan but the concept has always been cool to me. Hopefully we get some good ones in the near future.

Horror Comedy is my favorite genre but I completely agree that balancing the juxtaposition between the genres are very difficult. Some honorable overlooked mentions are I Bury the Dead and Cemetery Man.

Horror comedy is my favourite subgenre of horror. Great concept, Cody!

Great video, Cody! As someone who got into horror with the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street films at a young age, I too share your passion for slashers, even if there are admittedly more bad ones than good. I also agree that despite being equally great/iconic monsters, werewolves oddly don't have as many standout films as vampires do. By the way, if you ever need any ideas for future tier lists, how about horror music? Many classic horror movies have standout, iconic themes and it would be interesting to see how you'd rank them against one another.

I want to like Slasher films more than I actually like them. I feel like I’ve seen 50 slasher movies and I feel like I’ve yet to find a masterpiece. The closest is Halloween, but I don’t jive with it that much and although Nightmare on Elm Street is a masterpiece it is too supernatural for it to feel like a pure slasher. And as much as I love Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it feels way too arthouse to be what I’m looking for.

I think your reason for liking body horror is probably the reason I *can’t* do body horror. It just makes me queasy. (I never thought of the Thing as body horror but I guess it fits) I love that you include your daughter in your love of movies. ❤ I had a love of horror movies when I was a kid and I always wished one of my parents was a movie nerd like me. Watching your videos has given me a love of horror movies again, so thank you! Currently half way through the Saw franchise with my roommate for the first time and I’m having a fucking blast.

A decent creature feature for me is one called creature from 2011, another good thriller or horror is the bone collector, I’m trying to remember this creature feature that had these bug type things kill humans and take their faces. I know this might be a movie with more horror elements but the movie legion with Paul Bettny who played priest. Another good horror like movie is daybreakers
