I always love these big overview types of tier rankings. Thank you!! I won’t dude-bro you about Dreaden. I’m sure you’ve heard it ALL. Lol. I will let you know I was shocked by, of all books, Clytemnestra. This Greek author so totally flips the understanding of this woman by changing the perspective it’s just incredible. By the end of this year I will have read around 300 books and Clytemnestra will absolutely be in my top five. It was so unexpectedly good I can’t stop talking about it. You might want to take a look to see if it appeals to you.

I felt similarly about ‘For the Wolf’ but its sequel ‘For the Throne’ focuses more on the other sister and it was just vastly better. I’d say it’s worth checking out 😉 ‘Foxglove King’ by the same author has some good elements to it and I’d give it a go if I were you. I think you’ll find it fun from an angsty love triangle point of view 😂 I wasn’t a big fan of ‘Once and Future Witches’, it dragged mercilessly. Great concept and some fun character dynamics but it took me an age to get through it and by the time I finished I was just glad it was over. I’d wanted to love it so badly though!

I enjoyed Song of the Forever Rains and the other two books in the Mousai trilogy solely for entertainment purposes. Were they great? Not really. Were they fun audiobooks to put on while trying to complete other tasks? Absolutely. So if you’re looking for something entertaining to put on in the background, I recommend.

I loved Fourth Wing, but I was more in it for the romance. I read some fantasy, but I’m primarily a romance reader. I also really liked Ariadne! I love a good Greek mythology retelling, and thought that one was good! I’d read more books by that author too

I’ve read a lot of Nora Roberts. The Awakening would be a good book to dip your toes in if you like, as it is Urban Fantasy/romance. It’s like the junk food category for me. If I need an easy, but entertaining read without a lot of expectation. But, certainly don’t go out of your way. There are far better books out there.

Keeper of Enchanted Rooms was so great! I loved both main characters so much and the magic system was interesting, especially in terms of the house. Agreed on For the Wolf - the idea was there and the atmosphere was good but the execution was so off, it made literally no sense if you examined any part of it too closely.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Song of the Forever Rains. I read the whole trilogy in a week or so, but in the end it wasn’t worth it, to be honest. The plots were pretty cliché and conventional. The covers are stunning and the slowburn romance is somewhat entertaining in all of them, but in the end I think there are other series out there with great romance and much more originality to their plots!

I'm a guy, so Dresden moves up to Good for me (though I liked Battle Ground more than Peace Talks.) Likewise, Sarah J Maas moves down to Not Interested- I read A Court of Thorns & Roses, over my daughter's recommendation that I wouldn't like it. I should have listened to her- so no more Maas. I would call The Lost Metal good, not great- but I'm sure you will enjoy it. I have some of your 'Great' books on my TBR, so lots to look fwd to!

I'm guessing it might have something to do with the authors inspiration for the story (indigenous residential schools in Canada, which has had some especially horrific discoveries in the past few years). I have some friends who it left a bad taste in their mouth because of the basis of the story. I could be wrong, but that's just my guess.

The Chosen and The Beautiful is not really a close retelling of The Great Gatsby. There is a decent amount of overlap with plot points, but it's mostly only there for convenience, since the book doesn't actually seem to have a plot of its own. There's a lot the author tries to encompass that could've been interesting but I kept asking what the point of the book actually was. I ended up DNFing when it became clear the author's intent was to redeem everyone else - including Tom Buchanan which is an odd choice - while villainizing Gatsby (a reoccurring trend in these retellings). I feel like it promised a really interesting concept and failed to deliver.
