    On the "spiceless" Brittish/European food thing. My theory is because a lot of spices aren't native to Western Europe and only available to the main populace centuries after its introduction, hence a lot of traditional dishes do not include them. As many of the more traditional dishes are things the middle and lower class ate. More often the flavors for those dishes are extracted from herbs and vegetables that were more readily available such as chives, garlic and mustard.

    Speaking as someone who has had Birdsnest before, due to my grandma giving it to be before (it's also sold in cans but it's probably just jelly), the bird saliva just taste like flavourless jelly that happens to feel lumpy. I enjoyed the sweet drink it was swimming in more than the actual birds nest. I didn't even know it was an actual literal bird's nest till I became 12 years old as I thought it was just a name they gave it to sound fancy. Also, the virgin piss eggs, never heard of them and now i am scarred for life 🤣 I'm Chinese btw, big fan of your work.

    Klidge you're missing out if you've never had Salmon Skin that has been baked until crispy like a chip. Also the skin has lots of collagen and healthy fats so it's good for you.

    I'm Chinese and have been feed with the swallow nest soup ever since I'm a child. It's actually not that bad. The nest itself doesn't have any taste and have a jelly like texture. The soup will have some sort of Chinese medicine things being paired with it and the liquid is sweet. 👍

    Right off the bat starting with eggs boiled in butter is quite a funny precedent to set. TBH hard boiled egg with butter doesn't sound that bad, I cook my fried and scrambled eggs with butter in the pan; a small pad of butter melted on a hard boiled egg sounds pretty good. Boiled in it tho? Hmmmm, no I wouldn't seek it out to try.

    I would totally watch a "Cooking With Klidge" on how to make Potato Mochi. They talk about it all the time in Pokemon Legends Arceus, and it's made me curious to try it. Also, for the in-game references, in the Babylonia Singularity, part 14-5 when you're going through the Underworld to meet Ereshkigal, there's a question about foods, and if you pick "Ereshkigal is good for the liver" (It makes sense in context. Kind of. I think), Mash says "Yes, home cooking is good for the liver. That's the secret to longevity and better sleep. White rice and barley rice should be a 1:6 ratio. There's no problem with eating meat, but chicken tenders are recommended daily." so I guess that could be one too? Mash likes chicken tenders? Oh, and yes, Tasting History is awesome!

    mozart doesnt really talk about food much in his letters, theres plenty about going to dinners and such but its more about who was there so his dish here is more like his dad mentioned him eating it one time in a letter dated 5th of january 1771(mozart was 14 at the time) i know its not that deep and other servants here dont just go "this is my favourite food for real", its just my hobby to check things about this guy specifically lmao

    Now I want to see Atalanta and Edison enjoying some apple dumplings together.

  • @chrisnichols9936
    @chrisnichols99362 ай бұрын

    Atalanta's love of apples derives from her mythological origins. Due to Greek myth stuff, Atalanta was supposed to marry anyone who could beat her in a footrace. No one could, until Aphrodite, being a dick, gave Hippomenes a set of irresistible golden apples. During the race, Hippomenes kept throwing out these irresistible apples and Atalanta would have to go chase them down and thus fell behind in the race. By this tactic, Hippomenes won the race and Atalanta's hand in marriage. There's more to the myth, but over the years the story has changed from "magically irresistible apples" to "Atalanta just likes apples that much."

  • @chrisnichols9936

    Anyhow, this was a big proxy fight between Artemis and Aphrodite. Artemis (being goddess of virgins) thought Atalanta should remain a virgin and not marry. Aphrodite being Aphrodite thought everyone should fuck whether they liked it or not, and took Atalanta's virginity (and thus alignment with Artemis) as a personal insult, hence the magic apples dickery and forcing her to marry (and lose virginity to) Hippomenes. Yes, that is full as bad as the implications indicate.
