Loyalist primarchs should have far more significant buffs for their armies. While traitor primarchs should be significant individual threats. The Lion and Gman should have army wide buffs they can choose from. With more impact than “add 1 to wound roll”.

Yeah to be fair his datasheet sucks. Giving him the infantry treatment is not bad but it doesn't come any close to his brothers. I wont be fielding him until next edition probably.

Salamanders aren't considered Divergent. If we're counting all loyalist Primarchs, Vulkan, Dorn, Kahn and Corvus are all in the mix, potentially.

Magnus does in fact have apocalyptic levels of shooting damage. The sheer amound of carnage ive cause in one round of shooting with him is astounding

One fluffy thing I’d love the lion to have is the ability to give the deep strike keyword to a unit during set up and that unit must deep strike within 3” of the lion to reflect that he often brings other astartes with him when he forest walks

I would love if his scythe got Devastating Wounds and anti-infantry 2+. Like cmon, it's a scythe the size of Gulliman, it should absolutely mow down infantry as far as rule of cool works. Mortarions biggest problem in melee is, he gets absolutely screwed by invulnerable saves. Just 5 terminators can easily tie him up for 2 rounds of combat, with bad luck even longer. Dev wounds and anti-infantry combined, he would have strong specialized role in melee, instead of being an all purpose can-opener.

tbh the single biggest buff that the lion got in the most recent data slate wasn't his fnp working properly, it was his new ability to cool-aid man his way through walls shouting "Here's (el) Johnny!"

Well he's just as useless. His main task was babysitting the Plageburst Crawlers so they can ignore the indirect penalty. Now that indirect never hits at 3 or better, there is really no reason to take him ever in a competitive setting. Super pillow fisted at his point value.

Loyalist primarchs being so lackluster is so disappointing, specially compared to Angron and Magnymagic which are obscenely good. It should be a huge deal seeing them back, and yet all they are is shelf decoration.

I've used the Lion a bit, but even in casual it's a struggle for him to be impactful. Low mobility (although going through walls will help) and basically no ranged attacks (pistol is barely worth shooting). It's the disparity in power levels that irks me. On the one hand auto-include borderline broken (angron's resurrection mechanic is far too powerful an effect), on the other, usable in casual.

I think I'd take Gman if his armour of fate wasn't a once only deal. A 3+ as you say is unreliable it could fail the first roll or he could repeatedly get up the entire game, I think that would be more interesting. Especially when Angron works like that also. Additionally I think he could do well with some passive aura to boost the troops around him.

This guy has lone op, deep strike, 3+ invul, fights first, and potential to CP farm. The other guy is tankier and hits harder but has none of the shennanigans. I hate when marines cry. They have been crying since 7th edition. You would think their salt would have run out by now but apparently they also get additional tear glands as part of marine tranformation. Good thing I'm a nid player though, I like my food salty. Since the end of 9th edition non-marine armies have equal footing with marines and they a**tartes can't bear with it.

B team confirmed to have gotten stomped by Inner Circle at end of 9e and still salty about it.

Shame Guillimans Fist isn't classed as extra attacks, as its a different weapon, most units have extra attacks from their secondary weapon.

Lol my castellan robots reflect just as well as the emporer shield. Better actually we have more wounds and (variably) more toughness. That's comedic.

I love Angron. My buddy plays Ynnari and Angeon and Yncarne went toe to toe with Angron just barely coming out on top. Was fantastic.

As an Iron Hands player, I will keep hoping for the servo-primarch.

They are weaker, but they’re also not daemons. They are less physically imposing than Hive Tyrants, and I think that’s well-reflected in their toughness.

When I play my World Eaters, anytime I go first and advance and charge (happens more often than you’d think) Angron is always in the opponent deployment zone turn one and turning their entire battle strategy on its head, even if for one turn. It lets me take board control, score on primaries and position other heavy hitting units, MOE, DPW w/zerker glaive, Avocado Lord and E8B move fast af too. I love my WE.

I never played SM, but i dont understand how Guilliman and the Lion are not seeing play. On paper their stats are bonkers.

I really think it shouldn’t take a lot for the Loyalist Primarchs to be just as good as their chaotic counterparts. They’d just need to fill different battlefield roles, in contrast to “well here’s a consolation prize for playing Ultramarines: your mid-ass Primarch”. Have them be more stratagem focused, and maybe remove one aura from each daemon Primarch as they’re supposed to be freight trains you drive into whatever’s bothering you.

@@equos5060 You could make them underdogs and still usefull, The Lion could easily be a character duelist that melts easily without protection from gunfire/meleemobs and Guilliman could be the same but in a commander/force multiplier role (as he was at the beginning of the edition before the oath changes) and they could still be underdogs next to the murder machine Angron and psychic machine gun Magnus.

As someone who owns all of the demon ones, Magnus is absolutely bonkers and Head and shoulders above the rest. I expect a points increase.

As more primarchs arrive, I think GW needs to step back and revisit them. They need to decide what they want them to be in this game and try to bring them to par with each other to a certain baseline degree. I feel like they should all be auto-include for any competitive list and yet they simply are not, with some being wildly more powerful than others.

I feel like gulliman isn't THAT tough to protect now that he can walk through walls. Put some infiltrators around him, have a Phobos librarian lead them, and now you have a 12" lone op no deep strike bubble

Very much looking forward to some of the Undivided Primarchs. Unless you're playing Black Legion the Epic Heroes section of CSM is pretty bare.

Angron's come back ability was so much stronger in 9th : you could move and charge the same turn you came back if you paid ebough blood tithe, and you could EASILY revive 2 or 3 times in the same game. Glorious times. ...Now, if you come back once, you can consider yourself happy, and you'll spend a turn doing nothing because you can't move after arriving as reinforcements.

Three times I have lost Mortarion full health to a squad of 10 assault intercessors with blood angels. There is something to be said against a flurry of lethal/lance attacks and it's just fucking depressing when a 2+/4+/5+ means absolutely nothing...

My head cannon is that the emperors shield is what gives the lion fights first making it a powerful enough artefact to be justly called the emperors shield.

The demon Primark’s get the benefits of being trans human at the top of the food chain as they are literally what their legions gene seed is based on, and they get the benefits of being blessed by one or four chaos gods

Pair the Lion with a lieutenant with combi weapon so they both have lone operative and he can stomp over the board fairly safely, good for countering people trying to snipe him before he can get into melee and then you get fight first if they try to charge you when you get here.

Magus is the strongest primarch hands down followed by angron, lion is okay his overall role is okay not bad but average, morty and guilly are weak. Guilly just need points changes and he fine but morty really needs a rework to make him an actual threat since he really doesnt have a defining role in the army though ppl will argue he is tanky. I dont feel that since magnus can give himself -1 to damage, angron can come back, lion can be deepstriked and is very durable overall, and guillimen having lone op with units means you have to chew though alot just to get to him vs a 4+ fNP and cover fro passive. He doesnt have great abilities compared to the other primarchs and i hope the codex fixes that

I mean, for models? No Loyalist primarch is a cooler sculpt than any of the 3 current traitor primarchs, I own Mortarion, and Angron. If I get an opportunity to ever start a T-Sons army, Magnus is well to the front for purchases, the only Loyalist one I have is Guilliman, but I freely admit that the Lion being a thing makes me strongly consider starting a DA force

I lost a game against world eaters where i tabled thek but they brought back angron every turn of the game so even though i was able to kill every unit and score secondaries i lost to a fixed pick with my opponent charging me 4 times from deep strike 1 time naturally with angron 😢

See, I think Mortarion is auto include. He is a cheap 325, he is a massive bullet magnet. He is the most survivable primarch, and his attacks aren't useless. The death guard are about survivability, so it makes sense that he isn't as dangerous as Angron. But he does his job, he is killy enough but more than absorbs his points in attacks made against him than other things. If people ignore him, he will end up in their back field killing things and buffing your shooting. If they focus on him, the rest of your army goes untouched.

With him being a perpetual, Vulkan might very well be alive, Jaghatai Khan might also be alive somewhere in either the webway and I believe Corvus Corax is also alive. I am not saying they are larger chance than Russ, but I feel like there are more living loyalist or potentially living primarchs than Russ

I haven't watched this video yet, but if it's not our Lord and Savior Roboute Guilliman, I will dye my hair white and join the battle sisters. And yes I am a man, I will find a way.

Daemon primarchs should be huge individual threats and have a couple of handy army buffs, whereas loyalist Primarchs should be okay individual threats, and should have huge army wide buffs.

Angron needs Dev wounds on his strike or to be less points. Usually dies round 1 or 2 and the game turns into fishing for Khorne

I started playing 40k in February of this year. I'm an Ultramarines player, so Guilliman naturally pinged my radar; ultimately chose not to buy him for the reasons mentioned in the video. Consider this: the Nightbringer is 295 points, the Avatar of Khaine is 335 pts, the Hive Tyrant is 235 pts, and so on. All of these are tougher than Guilliman, they deal the same or more damage, and all have some cool aura ability or several cool aura abilities. Guilliman really only has 1.5 good auras, and the lone op ability really isn't *that* great - especially considering the fact that he really *needs* to get into melee to justify his existence. It gets even worse when you consider the recent nerf to the lone op ability. The loyalist Primarchs need to lose the "monster" keyword (6 Eradicators can shoot G man down in one shooting phase) and just let the "Primarch" keyword define them, yes, I know that they're warp demigods, but the chaos primarchs are *actual* monsters. They need the monster keyword, the loyalists do not. All Primarchs need to be T11 on account of the fact that they're centerpiece models made in the likeness of the Emperor. It'd be nice if the two loyalists were bumped up to 13 wounds. That, and G man needs to come down to something closer to 275 pts; I'd be fine with 300 if he got the above changes. I feel like the Lion is in a better spot; he seems fine at 300, so long as he gets the above changes I mentioned.

No nerf to lone OP, only for "only OP style stratagems" the lone operative ability works normally. I agree about losing the monster keyword. Resistance and wounds, on the other hand, are fine. I would simply give them a 6+ feel no pain to reflect their primarch status and their stubbornness/unbreakable loyalty.

Loyalist Primarchs need to match their Chaos or xenos counterparts. At the moment Dreadknights are better and I can field 6 of them per game. They should be auto includes unless points needed elsewhere.

so far in most of the primarch v primarch fights after the horus heresy the loyalists have to resort to some extra tactical approaches like lion fighting angron or just stalemate.

Personally I think they are all pretty damn awesome and flavorful (also in casual games can really mess things up!)

It seems, Angron and Magnus didn't sold themself very well.

I may of missed AT saying it but magnus can also get sustained hits 1 for all his attacks with the army sub rule, which in combination with the +1 to hit and wound means your doing both dev wounds and sustained hits on 5+ so on average your probably getting 9+ attacks on his melee strike potentially dealing a kind 27 wounds ,some of which may be dev, if saves are not made especially now with twist of fate adding an additional -2 ap onto the attacked unit making it -5, so if your vehicle or centrepiece model has no invulnerable save you can say bye to it very quickly

+1 to hit/wound type effects are considered modifiers, and sustained/lethal hits and dev wounds only trigger on unmodified crits, so would still need a 6

I play Death Guard, People absolutely HATE Mortarion. Or More accurately they Hate the *"Lord Of The Death Guard Aura"* Ignoring peoples special -1 to hit or wound or move or damage or etc. just drives people crazy. This results in 1 of 3 things happening, they spend most of their time trying to kill him and succeed and I out score them and win. They fail to kill him and he wipes everything he runs into, if slowly. Or they ignore him and he is a massive pain in their ass the entire game.

I’m glad Johnson isn’t a joke in this edition in ninth I found a way to make a gravis Captain tough and harder to kill than him with blood angels

The tweak you suggested for the Emperor's Shield is absolutely correct, GW should really consider it to make the Lion really viable again. Also I would say that Guilliman would be viable with a 3++ and revive on a 2+ (let's consider that several other auto-revival units have this ability as automatic or on a 2+)

Guilliman is poo, standard Morkanaut or dreadknight or old one eye, which are all vastly cheaper and capable of slapping the blue berry tart to 50K, I wouldn’t use that nugget at all, the balance team must have read indirect fire in his profiles somewhere.

I would love if the Kahn came back next I think it would make sense because drukari being next editions big bad is likely

Yeah if we only count the 4 chapters that has gotten their individual codex Russ would be the most likely to return as Sanguinius is well and truly DEAD. However if we possibly still living Primarchs we also have: Jaghatai Khan, that last anybody saw of him he chased some drukhari who had been raiding his planet into a portal. So the Khan might still be alive. Corax last we saw of him he had transformed into a warp creature hunting Lorgar (beating the snot out of him) so he might return. Vulcan we saw him being disintegrated into pure waaagh energy, however the Salamanders still hold to the idea that if they gather all of his artifacts, he will return. So maybe he could return there. Dorn is in a bit of a limbo, one version tells that the fists found his body and placed it in a chapel on the Phalanx and encased it in clear amber. Another version said they only found his hand. So he MIGHT still be alive or he might be dead. Ferrus Manus... if they want him to return they could go clone. Fabius Bile clone several copies of him, all of which Fulgrim tried to turn to chaos, all of which failed, which caused Fulgrim to kill them. You could always go with one escaped. Clone Fulgrim.. he wasn´t a traitor and seemed to show genuine remorse for what his counter part did, so there is a possibility that he could return. That´s the remaining loyalist primarch. So far among the dead traitor primarchs we have: Horus, (though he might return since the Emperor didn´t erase his soul this time around. Alpharious (We have yet to see if Omega survived or if Gulliman killed him or if that was copy, one story could suggest the Alpha Legion thinks he is still alive but in hiding) Curze (there is a possibility that his soul is trapped in his crown so he could return that way) All the others are still around.

They should really just break down and do a separate Codex for each Chapter at this point. Just go for it, you know? Why not?

Can't imagine 40k balance state if they piled up every legion on top of all the 40k factions (xenos, imperials and stuff) We only have custodes (skew spam), mechanicum (ruling might improbe with civil war coming up next), but solar auxilia and imperial militia (alongside Questoris Households) are an absolute disaster.

You should do this for all faction commanders.

Am I missing something? Where in the dataslate does it say Guilliman and LJ can move through walls now?

Guilliman being stuck in the loop of aura re roll / re rolls in general has always been boring. They bring back dozens of special keywords and his only command presence is re rolls. I understand why they are so good but throw in a tree of sustained, lethal, advance and shoot etc

Kind of wish that they were not playable on the tabletop.

G-man feels like he's so close to being good. His melee is kinda better than lion somehow. he has a self revive(Though it's the hardest 3 I've ever had to roll, despite it being better than 50% chance to hit it I have a negative ratio for it lol) reviving at the end of phase is great if G-man is defeated during enemy fight phase, cause he revives out of engagement range. And now it's your turn to pretty much guarentee some pain, his trio of abilities is in my opinion good. Two of the three are pretty good. Getting a secondary oath of moment, or a free strat(Now a minus 1 cost) ability in an area around himself on both turns(Ya it says each turn, not battle round like battle rites) He has a 2+ natural save, 4+ invul. And he can walk through walls like infantry now despite being a monster. Honestly I think what holds him back is being a bit overpriced pointwise. Lion thankfully got his reduction. Yes he has a 3+ invul, but he lost his -1 to wound on the shield for just the counter mortals. But he got stealth buffed by the dev wound change that it's sort of mortal wounds again. So his mortal wound fnp area is really useful. Only reason I see for his melee getting nerfed and being wirse than G-man is cause he has first strike. He also has deep strike, random but sometimes useful idea instead of relying on his lone operative bodyguard ability to stay alive.

Im personally hoping for Leman Russ or a for the sanguinor to get a primarch buff. Feels like the loyalists should finally get a really killy primarch thats just a blender of death like angron.

That’s what the Lion should have been. Literally the strongest duelist of the primarchs. Defeated Daemon Angron in lore. Yet his melee profile is only slightly better than Helbrecht.

Has anybody used the Deep Strike Ability of the Lion? Could it be usefull to drop the Lion behind a unit which has been put on the table via Deep Strike and gives them the +4 Feel No Pain against mortal wounds?

Not really, anything that would need that buff in DA is ether to close to the enemy to receive, or has the entire enemy army pointed at them. As for simply Deep striking the lion, he’s too powerful for your opponent in any competitive scenario, not to screen him out making him lose the little initial impact he would have just being on the board with his 8inch move Overall the deep strike is to niche to ever consistently use, but he is still fun to use

The lion is tricky. I’m unlucky with his melee which sucks, like his last game he had to fight 6 DeathShroud and a LoV. In two rounds of his melee he killed 2 DeathShroud. And his gain a command point aura sucks because you can’t gain it most time since every dark angels player runs Azrael. He’s still cool and I love the model so I’ll continue using him but he’s frustrating for sure

So if thay all went one on one with each other witch primarchs would come out on top on average. Like the lion vs guilliman then mortarion then angron and then angron vs guilliman then magnus then mortarion .

I went to the time stamps to look for Sanguinous... I feel upset :(

Ive never played a single game of 40K (so far, my armies just arent painted yet) but Ive noticed that basically every Thousand Sons Army uses 1 Rhino minimum. Is it that good in the Magic Man army?

@@Krasser_Crusader Rubrics only have a movement of 5 inches. The Rhino has a movement of 12 inches and can hold 12 infantry models.
