@@metalheadcarshow yeah, i was checking the final order and i forgot to move it a little higher, i'd put it bellow senjutsu in 14... having never played live brings it so down, but the instrumental part of the song is amazing! it's such a waste of potential

Hi, a lovely video I really like your list, for me Invaders, Tailgunner and Be Quick are very high up, but that's why we love maiden, because different songs mean different things to each eprson! I thought for sure you were going to put Aces High as number 1, as I think that's probably thr "correct" best opener for Maiden, but I agree with you I love CSIT - especially after I saw them do that twice on their UK tour of the Future Past. For me, the Wicker Man is the ultimate show opener, I think Rock in Rio is just perfect and it's an incredible way to open the show and get the crowd going! Great video and looking forward to seeing more in 2024!

Thank you! Aces High is amazing. CSIT just hits a little harder. I know I used live videos, but I am looking at it as studio album openers. Live stuff looks nicer for videos. I am jealous tho, would have loved to see the future past tour in 2023. I'll be seeing them on both Quebec dates this year!

Tailgunner is not a great song but definitely works as an opener, it's barely out of my top 5

We totally agree on one and two Dude! Caught Somewhere in Time, is the best opening track on any album, ever, In my opinion! Up the Irons! 🤘

I don’t wanna be that guy but I’m pretty sure the “first acoustic guitar” was on prodigal son from killers - but I know you know that deep down 😂😂😂 anyways great video and great choices! I would not put sign of the cross that low but hey that’s just me haha 🤘🏻😂

I'll keep it in mind. But I think that's a 18 song list. They have used every album opener to open the show except Invaders. But they did use The Number Of The Beast in 2003. They used both Wrathchild and Murders in the rue morge to open shows throughout the years

Agree completely regarding The X Factor. Always the thought that Man on the Edge would have been a great opener and Sign of the Cross would have been a great closer. My two favourite songs on the album, but misplaced in the track ordering IMO. My pick for the opener for The Number of the Beast would be The Prisoner. Moonchild is my number one, closely followed by If Eternity Should Fail and Aces High.

Absolutely. As mentioned in the video the opening track was supposed to be Judgment Day. Would love to know why it was dropped

I saw them in 1995 on The X Factour, and they opened with Man on the Edge which makes me think they probably also felt it should have been the opening track on the album. @@metalheadcarshow

That video is on my to do list. I just try speed out my Maiden content. I will be making that video this month

Ides of March actually appeared first on Samson's 1980 album Head On, named Thunderburst, after the drummer Thunderstick. Thunderstick played drums on early days in first Maiden lineups and the song was made then, around 1977.

Fair, that's probably a very popular opinion

17. Be Quick or Be Dead - This is a good song, but the fact this is the closest to an intro on Fear of the Dark is a problem. There’s just nothing to unpack, it’s just “here’s your birthday present, but we didn’t wrap it or give you a card” 16. Tailgunner - This one is pretty decent, but it’s a little janky. Do love that Steve is the highlight right off the bat though. 15. Prowler - Never got into this song, but it does it’s job. 14. Satellite 15… The Final Frontier - Satellite is too damn long and doesn’t really deserve to be, and while Final Frontier is a great rocker, it’s not a great opener. Mid-tempo isn’t what I want to open with. 13. Wildest Dreams - I think Rainmaker as an opener would’ve been amazing, maybe with the storm effects they used on the tour? This feels like a second song, where Rainmaker just sells it way better. 12. Senjutsu - Yeah, this is another slow one to open with. This does have a really good “curtains up” kind of moment though and the new tour did bring me around on it more. 11. Invaders - Catchy but maybe not the perfect introduction to the majesty that is Beast. I also think Number of the Beast would’ve been a cool intro to the album. 10. Ides of March - Hmm… this is hard to rank because it does open Killers amazingly, however a lot of that is because of the 1-2 punch with Wrathchild. Separating it, the instrumental is great but it’s not enough to break the upper echelon of openers. 9. Sign of the Cross - It may be slightly too “moody” to open the album, but I think it’s perfect because it’s not just your introduction to The X Factor, but your introduction to a whole new era of Maiden musically (more than just the new vocalist). I think it takes a lot of guts to open with a song this long, but this really works to me. 8. If Eternity Should Fail - This is heightened by the live version as far as the intro goes, but it’s just so moody and epic and gives me a great feeling for the album. Held back a little by the “good day, my name is Necropolis” strangeness. Mind you, I’m quite keen to see if this will pay off with Mandrake Project. 7. Futureal - I love this song, I hate that I ranked it at barely the halfway point. I love that it gives us such a high point to open with on such a maligned album. It’s ballsy, it’s punchy and it gets in and out quickly. 6. Wicker Man - Agree with everything you said, I just have a few I like more. 5. Caught Somewhere in Time - This is a wicked intro song, but again, there’s just a few I like more. Thank god they finally revived this with the three guitar lineup. 4. Different World - Whoops. Surprise! I love this song so much. It’s such a good welcome to the album and gives you a bit of a brightness to the bleakness the rest of the album will unpack, before you get a final spark at the end of Legacy. 3. Moonchild - Seven deadly sins, seven ways to win, seven holy paths to hell and your trip begins. Maybe Aces is more iconic, but just by visiting the first four lines of this song you’re already pumped to listen to Seventh Son, right? 2. Where Eagles Dare - “hey guys, how should we introduce our first album with a new drummer?” “I don’t know, how about a drum solo?” And then the rest of the song is a powerhouse from absolutely everyone! Perfection. But… 1. Aces High - You didn’t need to read my list to know. Aces High is a perfect opener, both on the album and more so live. Take Legacy of the Beast 2022 as a prime example of why, the second you heard Churchill’s start up for the last song, it felt like the concert was beginning again. I can’t hear that speech in any context and not get hyped up when I hear the “we will never surrender” line. Aces High is aces!

@@metalheadcarshow I don’t think it’s an opener at all. I think the best alternate opener for X Factor is Man on the Edge. However, X Factor would’ve been a better album for this song’s inclusion, maybe over Edge of Darkness if something has to be cut. I look forward to having the album closing conversation.

Apparently, Steve Harris is not a big fan of Invaders. I think in hindsight he would've wanted Total Eclipse, which was not on the original release (at least in the US). I am probably the only one who thinks Invaders is the best song on that album. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't play that live. I know it isn't on the 'Beast Over Hammersmith' cd.

Satellite and the final frontier would be closer to the top of my list if satellite 15 was half as long. The lyrics themselves set up which is brilliant. It just didn't need to be as long repetitive.

I thought Satellite 15 was cool and unique. At the very least put it ahead of Sign of the Cross. I spent 2 and a half minutes my first listen wondering if there was something wrong with the CD it is so inaudible.

Ya. Unpopular opinion sure. Moonchild is awesome don't get me wrong. But there is something about those drums and the drama of Senjutsu that just gets me.

Comparing our lists is really cool to see. We both have some songs that land is almost the exact same places, along with songs that are almost on the completely different side of the spectrum.
