Oh my goodness so happy to see this take. Bats are my favorite animals and I LOVE Golbat’s design here with the cat eyes and gross tongue. Genuinely my favorite R/B/Y sprite alongside old Haunter and Parasect, I wish the design stayed like that!

Ngl I still think it’s kinda ugly personally, but getting some focus on it in this video helped me realize it’s very fun and expressive and deserves praise for that

Gen 1 Machop looks like a hunter took modern Machop and boiled it in water for 3 hours.

I didnt even flinch when you sent the entire machamp bloodline into the shadow realm for R/G because they are abominable

I love how in every generation. Golbat's 2D sprite looks like he just went splat into a windshield.

This is my theory about Sandshrew: it was a really accidental good sprite. It feels like the artists first drew it with darker colors outlining all the light spots, since that's more like the other mons' styles (and even the other Sandshrews), but that became REALLY cluttered and made the eye hard to see, so they removed the outlines. And when they did, they immediately took their hands off the keyboard, coded the sprite into the game, made like 5 backups of it, and refused to change it until they had to. For they had just beheld complete and utter perfection.

i love how all 3 Omastar are dancing. R/B Omastar is in the middle of bustin it down Yellow Omastar is cha cha sliding to the left and R/G Omastar is finishing a dance move with style

Honestly, ranking/discussing RBY backsprites would be of significant interest. For all the updates to the full-body sprites, all the way from launch through Yellow, backsprites were _eternal,_ for better or...worse.

As well, it takes perfect advantage of Tentacruel's anatomy (with the multiple tentacles) It's not like this vague beholder or boring squid, no. It is looking down on you with it's arms folded, while also telling you to get on with your work, because to Tentacruel you are its subordinate

Late but as a kid Machop reminded me of the Looney Tunes gag where someone gets crushed or slammed into a wall and they come out completely flattened.

I never cared about Muk, neither as a pokemon nor as a design, but looking at RB Muk right now isolated from all of my RB playthroughs, is making me appreciate him alot. Muk in RB is the best looking Muk from any generation and is probably my favorite gen 1 design now. I've decided that on my next RB playthrough, I'm gonna use Muk on my team, which would be the very first time I've done so.

I like that red/green tentacruel shrugs while red/blue tentacool crosses its arms. They should give tentacruel this kind of attitude again

GameFreak should give Golbat his tongue back! And let Grimer go "WOOOOOO!!" again!

Yellow's Clefairy is _good,_ but R/B Clefairy is Yellow-tier on-model AND that expressive, it's perfect.

I think you can see that many of the designs were more established by Yellow. in Green, Red, and Blue, the games were still the main medium for the designs, but by Yellow the designs had been established by the Anime etc.

Would be fun to see this for the glitchmons. Like a modern art exhibit

I know there’s really nowhere else to put this (unless Big Yellow does a Gen 2 stream), but I wanna gush about one of my favorite sprites: Spaceworld 99 Marowak. Everything about it is utterly amazing, and it’s personally a Perfect tier Pokémon sprite to me. It’s like the POV of the Rocket Grunt who killed Marowak in Gen 1. That Marowak’s child grew up, evolved, and, wearing the skull of its dead mother, is about to beat you to death, and it knows it. It has this look in its eyes like “Yeah, try me motherfucker. Try some bullshit. I’ll bash your skull in if you do. So go on, fuck around and find out.” Imagine staring down a Marowak in GSC OU, after it got a swords dance up, and it’s giving you THAT look. Shit would be terrifying!

I came here after watching the edited summary video on your main channel. This was a lot of fun. RGB Sprites are a lot like season 1 of a TV Show, where there's a lot of weird stuff that changed after the first season, but with great personality. Yellow sprites I never liked as much although they are on the whole more faithful to how the Pokemon actually look, because it felt like they're less sprites of the Pokemon and more sprites of the anime of the Pokemon, but I've also come to appreciate them more recently. I think you were too kind to Goatse-Golem in RB, and I actually really like the Green version vacuum-head Ekans for how goofy it is.

I feel so vindicated at RG Clefable and Porygon being as high up as they are especially after RB Clefairy being snubbed from Perfect lol And like this is definitely bias from Porygon being one of my favorite pokemon in general but RB Porygon is such a good sprite to me. It's off model and just a bit derpy in such a charming way

I really enjoyed this video. I have never really looked at gen 1 sprites and it was nice to see them compared.

This was such an interesting video. Like Pokémon Yellow feels like it has the superior sprites. The poses are strong, they capture the essence of each Pokemon AND the designs are the definitive/recognizable ones that we still use today. THAT BEING SAID, there is a certain charm to the RGB sprites that you can’t deny.

I think the biggest problem with hitmonchan in red/green is that the fists are WAY too big, if you showed me that I wouldn't know what the pokemon itself is supposed to look like outside of part of its face, shoulders, and legs. In blue, you can see more of it's body, so I think that one works better. none of the other pokemon have this big of a problem where something covers up 80% of its body.

I just learned of the second impact channel and this video is just what I needed. The brows do look great by the way

R/B Omanyte is literally one of my favourite sprites in the game and for that 'mon in any generation. Like all the rest go for a cute sprite, but this one has the hands on hips sass going on. I just love it.

Just saw the epic Gay Fates part of the stream, Conquest is a banger game. It's got some really good maps and it best uses the mechanics to make an interesting game. Once you've gotten some runs in, you can start doing some super cursed builds for units that can wreck house. Birthright's bad all around though, and Revelations is weird. All stories aren't good, but who really cares at this point. Also Nidoking sweep.

RB Electrode just feels wrong with the open mouth rather than a closed one. Electrode should be bearing its teeth clamped shut, like its jaw is clenched from the electricity. y'know?
