Ranking All of Toni Morrison's Novels
One of the greatest authors in American history, Toni Morrison (1931-2019) wrote and published 11 novels during her lifetime. I have read and ranked all of them so that you know where to start.
As always, my rankings have zero credibility in assessing the literary quality and are purely based on how the books affected me. I try my best to give a basic plot overview of each book, and to state whether I think newbies would enjoy them.

PARADISE was originally titled WAR. Not LOVE. Her editor suggested she call it Paradise instead.

Thank you! I knew about the War title situation, but I completely forgot which book it was for...

I loved this. Thanks for putting this video together. I just loving watching and hearing other people discuss Morrison's books.
Thank you for this. Reading all of Toni Morrison's books is a very ambitious undertaking.
Great insight, loved your descriptions. I've read 3 of these and wanted to know where to go next. 🙂
loved the many lenses you have placed on all of her novels. from a writer's perspective, a layperson's perspective, and a completionist perspective. really gives insight on where to go with all her novels. hoping to read Song of Solomon for the first time and can't wait! thank you for such an incredible video!
I really loved this video ! Thank you so much for making it 🙏✨

Thanks for the kind comment!
Excellent video :) Thank you!
Impressive overview. Thanks.
Just a clarification: Jazz unfolds around the murder of Dorcas, not Violet.
This is very helpful. Thanks!
Enjoyed very much
I just found your channel and I have to say I love the way you talk about books - it's very detailed and interesting to listen to. I haven't read anything by Toni Morrison yet but I bought Jazz and will hopefully get to it soon.

Nice Rankings, I have read Beloved and Song of Solomon for college. And am curious about reading Sula & The Bluest Eye. What's your opinion on the "Beloved" movie from 1998?

Thanks for watching! I've never watched it because I heard it wasn't good.

@@ABooktubeChannel Really? I heard Toni Morrison had to watch it three times in order to appreciate Oprah's performance as Sethe.

@@mikecee2145 Just finished the movie. I felt it cut so many details from the novel. For example: Sethe, Denver & Beloved are sharing a pair of ice skates yet no one sees them fall. It would have been interesting if Jonathan Demme had filmed that imo.

@@michaelcainghug1735 I've often wondered if the house they built for filming Beloved is there?
Bluest eye was the first book I read from her in my AP Lit class. Personally I would put it in S tier. Good list btw.
Thank you for doing this! Most of these White Booktubers don’t even read Toni.
