The m36 it's the best handgun in the game because of how quiet it is (and it's a revolver so it doesn't jam). You can literally use it in place of a melee weapon. It has saved my life in so many occasions. The only reason I can't give it S it's because the ammo is a bit rare.

M36 broken so fast, i use M645 cause it take more damage to kill zombie. 1 shot 1 kill sometimes. Also hard to broken.

"DE" stands for Desert Eagle, a large caliber semi-auto pistol. It has quite high damage and you can pretty easily one tap enemies 70-80% of the time with level 4 or 5 aim. It's actually one of my favorite hand guns, personally. I'd put it at A or B, but I also favor handguns in games quite a bit.

Personally never had any issues with the M9 pistol and it is my favourite sidearm to run with. I usually kill zombies with 1 or 2 shots usually so it's a pretty good ratio from bullets used to zombies killed

Sad to see the M36 ranked so low. I love mine as a sidearm because of it's low weight and relatively quiet bark. I generally wouldn't use it against a horde, but for exploration and base patrol/cleanup it works really nice. Ammo is painfully rare though.

It's kind of weird that the 308 M14 doesn't pierce and is quieter. I would expect it to pierce more and be louder than any other gun in the game

Guns seem to crit more often if zombies are closer or if unaware of your existence. This means that the base damage of a gun doesn't matter that much if you're using the pistol as a lightweight sidearm. There's a lot of situations where I'm looking into a window or through a tree line and see a zombie. I don't want to go over _there_ and the zombie doesn't know I'm there yet. That's an easy one-tap with the lighter damage pistols. The sound grabs the attention of nearby zombies in the trees or inside the building without alerting the entire town. And I don't have to compromise my positioning by hopping into a building or exploring an obstructed tree line. Or you're fatigued, but don't want to have to pop pills or nap. Pistols are just fine for light clean-up duty while you hoof it back to your car. You can one-two tap a zombie at close range without your fatigue levels affecting damage.

m36 is light, and it aint rare (neither is ammo for it), but its an absolute dogshit in everything beside that - slow reload time, little mags (only 5 shots) and the damage which makes the gun basically useless on a range higher than 4 tiles. Its a 90% chance that on a for example 7 tile distance you wont 1 tap a zombie. You will lose at least 2 up to even 4 bullets per zombie and with 5 bullets mags, you will have a problem dealing with a horde of 20 zombies. + if the revolver itself doesnt weight much, the ammo for it will, you will need to take at least like 200 bullets if you want to keep yourself safer with this gun, because it uses much ammo caused by the low damage. As long as you could use it on little zombie groups, it would be an absolute shit on MP. You would need to put the whole mag into a player without the bulletproof vest, and on a range of few tiles and it still wouldnt guarantee the players death.

At 3 aiming skill, the M36 has a 50% crit chance, giving it a 50/50 chance at one shotting a zombie! I highly highly recommend carrying this pistol to quickly thin out a large group or in case you become exerted and can’t melee. It’s so quiet that it won’t bring the horde down on you either!

The dynamics of these weapons does change in multiplayer. If you have a few buddies with you, having a mix of weapons is ideal - everyone having a shotgun will waste shots as people shoot at the same targets, and its just overkill and will run through your ammo so quickly. But one with a shotgun to deal the damage, one with a rifle to pick off long range individuals coming in (bonus if you have high nimble and can line up double shots) and another with a pistol to cover people while they reload (or quickly shoot flanking zombies who get too close) is a great feeling.

idk, I recall the M9 mostly one-shotting zombies. I would honestly say it's more useful than the 1911. 1911 at higher accuracy only feels to deal slightly more damage? Maybe server I played mostly on had lower HP? Also weight. Anyways, the M16 is pretty good to level reloading. That's about it.

M9 is S tier pistol. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. It is not true it takes 3-4 bullets to kill a zombie. If you have lvl 2 or lvl 3 aim, sure. But then you should not use handguns if you have such a low aim anyway. You should use shotguns. That's like saying machete takes 3 hits to kill a zombie. Yeah, when you're lvl 2. That's the case for all weapons, ranged or melee, they suck when you're low lvl. Only exception being shotguns, they are effective right from the start. Use M9 when it's intended to be used (at lvl 5 aim), put attachments to it and you will discover it reliably 1 shot or 2 shot every zombie. At lvl 5 aim i average 10 zombies per magazine (15 bullets), so 1,5 bullets per zombie. At lvl 6 aim it almost exclusively one shot zombies. Couple that with a fact how ubiquitous both this gun and 9mm ammo are and you have a side weapon that is light, reliable, easy to maintain (you will have a bunch of reserve guns for repairs, also tons of magazines for it), and use the most plentiful ammo in the game after maybe shotgun shells. On top of that it is precise, quiet (for a firearm), with fast reloading speed, very fast aim times, the largest magazine capacity of any pistol and its ammo is the lightest ammo in the game (4 times lighter than magnum or .45 rounds are). It is by no means perfect, it can jam, it's range is nothing spectacular and it requires higher aim than it's revolver counterpart-M36 in order to be used effectively but then it has such an overwhelming numbers of positives which makes it the best handgun in the game by a mile.

I use dual M9s on the holster, one with Iron sights for medium-range encounters and one with a red dot for short-range. The problem is that it requires a lot of aiming and the attachments make it great, definitively a great weapon but requires some investment.

@@Calfa2x True. I think this is the exact reason why M9 is underrated. Since it is very common, most of the time it will be the first firearm people will find in game (along with shotgun). But unlike shotgun which is usable even with 0 levels in aiming, or M36 which is decent with lvl 2-3 aiming, M9 will underperform in the beginning. So, people will get bad impression about it and later, when they shotgun their way to level 4 or 5 aiming, they will expand their arsenal with bigger guns. They will not look back for M9 since it was lacking in stopping power when they first tried it. Which is shame because M9 really starts to shine at lvl 5 and with attachments it makes higher damage of bigger guns redundant while still having 10 times more common ammo and spare copies for its maintenance.

In real life the M16 fit .223 ammo too so it would be actually possible to use full auto with it in PZ since .223 aren't that hard to find but maybe it would be too complicated to code :/ Nice haircut btw!!

When I wasn't playing modded I'd have a double-barrel shotgun as my primary and the M9 Beretta as my secondary. The shotgun looks cool, has that 'umnpf' in how it sounds and can easily tap zeds at decent range. Alternatively you can saw it off and make it a CQC monster (such as being in-doors in a tight hall-way it is no joke). It has options. It's perfect for aiming and reloading skill and is super fun to use. A solid gun over-all. The M9 really needs no explanation but I always said that a 9mm would be the gun of the apocalypse. Decent accuracy, decent mag size, decent damage and plentiful amounts of ammo everywhere (you can find these guns and their ammo all over the world for sale) - it's all about longevity and reliability.

In a real zombie apocalypse I'd actually opt for a Ruger Mark series gun. It's a target pistol that uses .22lr. Why is .22lr an advantage? There are tons of reasons. 1. Quieter than larger rounds. 2. Headshots. In theory, a .22lr will have plenty of velocity to enter a skull, but lose so much of that momentum from the initial penetration that it bounces around in the skull rather than exiting. I can't verify this. But even if it's not true, you still at least penetrate the skull. 3. High accuracy in a small, light package. I mentioned the Ruger specifically, but honestly, .22 is designed for two purposes. Either target shooting, or small game/vermin hunting. Lack of kick means the guns can be built from lighter materials. Small rounds mean they don't take a lot of room in your pack or weigh you down. 4. Sanitation. Smaller entry wounds and lack of exit wounds mean less blood and organic matter sprayed everywhere. It's a common trope that you should always aim for the head of a zombie. While a .22 won't even allow them down with body shots, the need for head shots means your target is the size that .22 really was made for.

Vanilla (multiplayer), aiming lvl 6, I love my M9 with laser/iron sight. 15 in the mag... I switched from 1911 because 9mm is about 1/4 the weight of .45 type, so you can carry so much more. Being able to hold extra boxes, + the lighter ammo weight in the mags made me switch forever to the 9mm. I keep an m36 in the 2nd holster for quieter engagements.

It's been the most requested PZ video for a while and the one I dreaded making the most. It's really hard ranking these guns.

The m36 has literally like a 12 square noise range. Its busted. It's basically quieter to shoot a zombie with an m36 than it is to jog away. Functionally it's a melee weapon in terms of noise.

IMO m36 m9 and js2000 are the goats. Use the shotgun to level and horde clear and sweep with handgun one shots at higher levels.

I think the m36 could be good for PvP as it would attract less zombies than other guns

Firearms B41 or Brita's are great addition to Zomboid.

They need to add more guns like the AR 15 in the game. Yes they have the M16 but it's rare in the game and AR 15s are more common today and in 1993 in real life. So it makes sense have it in the game plus it'd be semi auto only like it is in real life. Also an ak47 would be nice.

The thing is you're not looking to hit zombies with normal shots, but to crit them with your aiming skills, an M9 actually one hit on crit and when you go up in aiming and it's the second quietest of the game with i think 40 tiles, which is 10 more than the .38 special and 10 less than the M1911. Same goes with the M36 which can one shot and actually hits at lvl 0. I currently use 2 as sideguns, but I take 1911, and M9 in my back. I get it's subjective tier list, but when considering higher levels they are diferent tier.

I disagree with the .308 rifle, it's a great sniper rifle at a long distance, pair it with the .45 pistol and you can have an easy time dispatching hordes and other players at a safe distance.

Unfortunately the distance is not really much longer than the other guns and with slow rack speed you might take one or two out but then the rest of them are on you.

I would favor the MSR788 over the M14 if you have the 8x scope, the 788 is very ammo efficient. The 8x gives a 30 tile range so zombies can't even see you when you shoot them and the noise isn't that big, I prefer the 788 cause the damage is higher and being far away negates it's downsides since you will kill the horde before they reach you. Of course, you would need an m9 for zombies which appear from around you but if you plan it correctly (No zombies behind or to the side), you can shoot entire hordes without them reaching you.

@@KokoplaysMB me and my friend In multiplayer found out about a great Synergy when facing against semi-large hordes He would be behind me with a rifle and I would be in front with a Shotgun (and a Machete on my belt) He would pick off the horde from behind me one by one (usually, he'd kill enough that I didn't have to use my shotgun and just slice them up with my Machete) but if there's too many of them, I just annihilate them with the Shotgun

i know the video is old, but just for your info if you didnt see it yet, Desert Eagle, is the DE pistol :D i also find the Desert eagle quite practical and strong, i guess it depends on your ammo findings, and finding atleast 4 or more DE magazines. but if you achieve a decent amount of magazine rotation the DE is very strong and accurate with police officer start

M9 is S tier even at 0 aiming if you have a laser you will be able to hit the zombies it served me well and i saw a video on the M36 revolver and it seemed to kill zombies just fine at 3 aiming which would also mean the M9 deals good dmg which is why its S tier for me

Sometimes you need to double tap with m9 at lower levels, but with how common ammo and mags are for it you can afford to double tap. Also that foreign speed can clear hordes at higher level aiming.

​@@zera_5317 I feel that dude. My first gun I tried shooting in zomboid was the JS and j had a tight group of about 15 zombies in my face and whiffed two shotgun blasts back to back at about 5 feet. Absoluty terrifying. Because then they started streaming in in mass. Grab one extra mag for a M9 you can shred a group without attracting more.

I'd argue a few of the handguns are far better than the levels given. I'd especially argue for the m36 revolver. After aiming 5, those little beasts come to life and decimate hordes. If the ammo wasn't so rare, I'd only use the m36. Unbelievably quiet and very efficient. The D.E. is also decent with aiming 5. The hit potential skyrockets. The ammo is too heavy and rare though. My favorite is the M9 after aiming 5. Ammo is light and common. The stats are decent enough to rely on. The m9 are readily available for parts and so are the magazines. I don't feel guilty for clearing a few hordes before returning to the armory.

For me the best gun in the game is a sawn-off double barrel shotgun, this baby packs a bigger punch than the js-2000 and has a very good wide spread, hitring 4 targets at once, it is my number 1 tool for clearing massive hordes, you only have 2 shots but the damage is worth it, go find the shell bandolier which gives 15% more reload speed and you are basically a doom guy. The other op gun is m9, has 15 bullets in mag and most of the time at lvl5 aiming, it takes 1-2 shots to kill a zombie.

@@KokoplaysMB zombies are slow in normal mode, but when clearing a large hordes it is almost impossible to have a tight far angle, it's best to just stay withing few meters from the horde and slowly remove 4 zombies per shot, with a sawn-off you can lure zombies from other places to follow the strafe pattern of the horde, and because the spread is wider than yo mamma it's super easy to eliminate any zombies trying to flank you

I rarely use guns but I do always carry an M9 and a few mags sorta as a back-up or last resort type thing. I will sometimes use guns if I know there aren't a lot of zombies around. Imo guns just aren't worth the hordes they attract.

MSR 700/MSR 788 wth ×4 scope+ Le Gourmet = A meal Basically if have Silencer mod, the experience with gun will easier even low skill

I see you put the M1911 above the M9. As someone who owns a both an M9 and an M1911 I can agree because if I hear a bump in the middle of the night I’m reaching for an M1911. How many shots does it take to put down a target with an M9? It takes 9 shots. How many shots does it take to put down a target with a M1911? Just 1 shot… Then you’re gonna have to call 911 afterwards to get that shit cleaned up.

A .223 pierces but the .308 doesn't when in the m14....How... 😑

If ak-47 was added then they will add 7.62 rounds or box of 7.62 and 2 times stronger than m16 but 2 times slower

Most guns that can shoot the .223 can also shoot the 5.56 nato round. Also any .38 caliber can also shoot the .357 mag. Which is barely a step down from DE or 1911. Also would love to see those revolvers have a different version that's a double action fire. Also be fun to see a mod with revolver speed loaders. Technology the game is trying to balance things more so than anything. Also .308 has more penetrating power than the .223. The only thing is the velocity of the .223 kind of equals out as the bullet doesn't weight as much but has plenty of gun powder. It gets crazy with the reality of the bullets. More so if you factor in each fire arms have multiple powder grains and bullet tips. Hollow point versus FMJ. Game wise they don't want things to be too close to real and not too far away in availability.

The first point is kinda wrong. Guns that shoot 5.56 can for sure shoot .223 but not the other way around. 5.56 is a military cartridge and has a bigger powder charge, so an M16 will handle both, but varmint rifle can fkin BLOW UP if you jam 5.56 in it.

If it starts with the .223 then don't 5.56. So my kind of wrong was leading with the 223 saying. In short M16 can use both. Yet know your AR-15 and know your Chamber.

The M14 being the quietest is really funny but also very triggering. Cause .308 is a full sized rifle cartridge, which means it’s large, it’s hot, and it’s LOUD. The M16 which is chambered in 5.56 is generally quieter because it’s a smaller cartridge and thus usually less hot and there for less loud lol

Used m-9 and it jammed ever other shot

I feel like bolt action rifles should have more penetration. Like 3+ zombies with increased accuracy that falls off if you "rapid" fire those 3 shots. It also makes sense as most bolt-action rifles that are intended as marksman/sharpshooter/sniper rifles have a much longer barrel for both higher accuracy and velocity. Maybe if they added more types of ammunition like FMJ or AP, they could justify increasing the max amount of targets penetrated. Then again a skull will always deform and absorb the kinetic energy of most bullets, regardless of type and up to 7.62x52 (dunno about .308 as it is more pressurized), to a degree that over-penetrating shrapnel will deliver grazes to subsequent targets. .223 vs 5.56 is the same round in diameter and very slight on length, so a .223 can work in a m16 AR as well. Its just .223 is a weaker civilian counter part to a 5.56 of the which the 5.56 is standard for military. Same with .308 is to a 7.62NATO. .308 is civillian as 7.62 is military

Theres no tolerance difference between .223 5.56, only a different specified maximum pressure.

I’m fairly new to the game, under 200hrs, and haven’t even tried M16 yet (can’t find any god damn ammo) but imo M9 is an excellent weapon. 15 rounds and they often 1 shot since my aiming is higher now, and you can carry two of them with a double holster so if one jams and you really need to swap fast you can do that. Plus ammo seems less rare than others. For me as a newer player it’s at least A tier. The problem I have with shotguns is they don’t seem to one shot as often as I’d like and with only 6 rounds in the 2000 I feel like I’m constantly reloading and having to run away. Plus the 100 tile sound radius is annoying. It’s very good but I don’t like it as much as the M9. My other favorite is the M14 because of the range and good mag size, and I seem to get a lot of 308 ammo from police stations and safehouses. I am playing on easy settings though so this is just my limited experience

Feels like damage on firearms doesn't matter, only whether you crit or not. The m36 is the best gun i've used so far.

long range rifles need something more in their favor, i feel like the way zombies behave sort of suffocates their efficiency. theres no situation where id take a sniper over a shotgun tbh, even for picking off zombies at a distance theyre loud and bring the fight up in your face anyways

the accuracy scales better on the 788 and 700 than the other rifles, once youre level 4 theyre more accurate than the m14 and m16

Sawn-Off shotgun helps increase your stats. That's probably the only benefit.

I cant believe theres no semi auto shotgun in zomboid when its probably by far the most common shotgun you would actually find in the world

Shotguns are hilariously OP. One of them with a full choke and plenty of amo wipes hordes with ease.

M9 should be higher, A minimum. The 15 rounds and being very common used with decent shooting skill makes it a headshot machine at an affordable price. The .38 will always be best in my heart though

What do we learn from this? Nothing a good old shotgun can’t solve

once your aiming skill gets very high the M9 becomes a monster, and that 15 round magazine is gonna kill at least 10 zombies.

Personally I think the double barrel is better than the js 2000 because it can fire 2 shots rapidly, fast reload and no rack time and cant jam

In vanilla game m36 is definitely S tier. It is quiet and will kill zeds in 1-2 shots with high aim.

they need to put the auto-5 in this game, and a .22 rifle.

I stand behind what I said at the start: once you're above lvl 5 aiming, the best gun is the one you have ammo for. Guns are great, shotguns are amazing.

I've opted to stop using guns almost entirely. If I get a holster, I'll keep a pistol on my hip for last ditch protection, but ringing the dinner bell is suicide at this point.

In vanilla none of them are really good as snipers. I suggest using Brita's Weapons mod, it has some really good snipers.

If the guns were properly balanced to be more realistic the 9mm would beat every other handgun. The M14 would beat out the M16 because it's more likely to penetrate and is a full size rifle round. And shotguns would likely be a little less effective at doing everything.

The m16 is still gonna penetrate 90% of the time, is quieter, lighter (lighter ammo too,) more high capacity, more reliable, more easy to find parts and ammo for, more ergonomic, more well known to more civilians, lower recoil force, lower height over bore and shorter (with a collapsing stock at least.) All the m14 has going for it is likely more chance to be lethal without a headshot but when you're shooting slowly walking targets at close range that hardly seems like an issue.

I would've placed the M9 at least A tier I'll use it over the 1911 just off the ammo capacity alone. I understand your argument with the damage but it get such consitant crits the damage doesnt really give you much of a problem. It's also so quiet you dont have to worry about mowing down hundreds of zombies from firing it at a group. If were just considering sidearms I'd go as far as to say its S tier with upgrades.

yeah shotguns might be great for shorter distances, but longer range not as much probly.

I feel the M14 isn't powerful enough. I have level 6 aiming/4 reload and it still doesn't seem to get the job done. It needs burst mode or something. I look forward to going ham with my 64 boxes of 5.56 and 4 M16 rifles. XD!

I level Aim by herding zeds in my car, then blasting the horde with a sawed-off JS-2000 out of my window. The M-14 not piercing and being the quietest rifle is just silly. DMRs used them to shoot enemies hiding behind walls.... through the wall. They are SO LOUD. I still love mine because at least they give you 40 ammo/box and plenty of .308

pistols are seriously underrated, with 5+ aim it literally decimates hordes with a few clips from mid range, shotguns are seriously overrated IMO, they're very short range, have a small clip, and having to rack it each time you shoot causes a lot of issues.
