Ranger File Manager is also highly customizable and is VIM like bc it uses similar key bindings to navigate your system. There's a vim extension called rnvimr that lets you open ranger from inside vim, and open files directly there. It's pretty handy, although I use it mainly to take a quick look at the directory and find .gitignored files. Most of the time I use Neovim Telescope to get to the file I want more quickly. I've only been using them for a month or so, so I'm still refining my workflow :)

About only 8 Linux distros have been trying to select 8 myself. To me the 4 base distros Debian, Arch, Fedora and Gentoo are a no brainer. Guess Mint and Ubuntu deserves to be preserved too for beginner and stability. But the two remaining then? I guess it would be other two base distros. Like a Red Hat distro and maybe Slackware?

I'd agree, Ubuntu - beginners, Red Hat - servers, Slackware - lots based on this but I don't know much about..

But, I hope that you can give emacs a try , I think it's good to teach people as much as you can, it doesn't have to be extensive& maybe you'll get some inspiration to make new content as well
