Trades46 these are the cars that compare in this segment: X3, Q5, GLC, Fpace and Macan. The X5, Q7, GLE and RX are when they are highly specced, in the Range Rover Sport's segment.

Ib7 h price wise, you are absolutely right. But if you look at the size of the car and the engines you can get it is more comparable with a GLC, rather than a GLE.

I didn't think the P300 was a 6cyl unit, fairly sure their website states 4cyl ingenium unit.

I'd buy it for the looks, luxury and interior. Wouldn't even care about the sportiness of it. Oh and V6 please. 😎

Ryan Ryan, Land Rover manufactures range rover and discovery, according to what your customers demand!!!!These models have always been designed / built for the jungle of "London"!!!Besides a defender (1988) I also have a Range Rover (2017)! And, it can not be denied that Range Rovers are compared to Rolls Royce in comfort, and they never cease to be Land Rover, right?

In term of looks the best RR product in years , however i do think they should have given it atleast 430-450 hp to match the looks and to be up against the f base and maccan ..

Very nice video review, I like the overall style and more of the luxury car feel but still having options for off road or driving in bad weather conditions, being a family of four I could see the family being comfortable and safe within the Velar. I do enjoy the space and features of our Odyssey but Velar is hitting some of those points and much cooler! Ciao, ALDO

Very good review - I drove one recently and the review is spot on. There is nothing not to like in the Velar but it just lacks something in the performance. If refinement does it for you then you will love it but personally I wanted refinement plus some genuine sportiness to really make me go wow - and I didn't get that. Looks fantastic inside and out (although the touch screen does show the finger marks more than most because of its angle) but doesn't drive as well as the Audi SQ5 or the Porsche - and the Audi does come in quite a bit cheaper.

Just driven one of these today (300 diesel, but same spec otherwise), and the review is spot on what my thoughts were. The 3 screens are great to look at, but a bit distracting when you're trying to drive. - Plastics are a bit too cheap feeling - Seat quality is still terrible compared to a Macan - Handling is "plush", but doesn't compare again to the Macan I'd have a Velar as a replacement for my Macan, but they really do need a better seat upholster, badly.

Good Review - The Velar looks stunning for a SUV - Smooth, elegant yet dynamic and powerful.

I love Matt as a reviewer. We get too much nonsense and emotional bullshit sometimes from reviewers who frankly seem rather poor at their job, Matt is an expert and his style reflects that

There is only 1 v6 petrol not 2 as stated in the video, the 296 bhp petrol is a 4 cylinder unit

looks good, im sure they'll sell well, still prefer a Sport though :)

its available now in 2021 but offers a short range of 53kms

If it feels like an F-Pace that's probably because it shares the F-Paces chassis and some other gubbins. I'm keeping my eye on the Velar though as a replacement for my old RRS. Just need to ensure it has decent off-road capabilities for when our lane is blocked or we get a big dump of snow.

I understand the top to bottom chart of range rover line up, featuring range rover, rr sport, velar and evoque. What i don't get is... Where do discovery and discovery sport fit in ? And why are they necessary in the portfolio ? Every luxury suv maker has about 3-4 models across a size and price range like the bmw x1 to x6 for example.

Those screens are madness, too much looking away from the road. Overall damned with faint praise 'good enough' ha ha...

Rotary nob is way better to use then touch screen. I have the new A4 with Mmi plus and virtual cocpit which is the same as Audi.Q7 and the system is easy to use and doesnt distract a driver to look of the road...

I wil wait for the Autobiography and the SVR versions

Looks visually appealing. One of the prettiest SUVs out there. But the engine range sounds lame and are mostly built by Ford. I once had a Rover, it was fundamentally unreliable & boring to drive. I have nothing against this Velar though. I'm actually drawn to the car's pretty exterior but I worry about JLR's reliability, and the fact that they don't drive sporty enough, and the gear transmission/shift is a bit of a joke. I'm currently giving hell to the opposition in my Merc GLC Coupe AMG43 and BMW X4 35d M-sport, both of which I am trading up soon to GLC Coupe AMG63s and the soon coming X4M. The Velar is very eye catching, wonderful interior with those two screens for display, awesome car, that Velar, but I think I love it for someone else.

What a beauty. I'll buy this car after 10 years and the design will still look flawless im sure.

It does look good inside out but reliability will be an issue especially with the fancy infotainment system. Will it work without problems even for 30000 km? I have my doubts considering LRs reputation. Would like to see a realistic long term test before buying this rather than one of the German competitors.

Idk why but recent LRs and RRs have looked a but off to me. The new discovery and velar somehow manages, from a rear 3/4 view, to look as if the front of the car was a lot wider than the rear, making this odd wedge shape.

initial 30s are a vibe

I test drove the Velar HSE Dynamic 3.0d. Lovely car, but by the time you add a few extras to make it a proper luxury car, it cost a bomb. JLR seem to have taken the Porsche route in gouging customers for “extras” that should be standard. Getting the car up to a decent spec, the on road price in Australia ran up to $150k. Too much. The next Evoque might benefit from the Velar styling.

Can’t even read that text when showing the engine types. Really bad design.

Fundamentally, I got the same feeling sitting in the back of at the Geneva motor show. Never sat in a range rover before. And to my surprise the plastic looked really cheap and tacky

There is something a bit absurd when reviewers say "I know it can do 0 to 60 in 5.3 seconds, we have tested it, but it doesn't seem like it" I take their point that big cars never seem as fast as a little old mini doing 70 and all that stuff. Don't knock a car, though, for being very accomplished. The only issue I would have with this car is that at top spec, it will be every bit as expensive as the Range Rover Sport and very nearly as large and heavy. Is this too much niche marketing.

Become mired in $75,000 in auto debt on top of student loans, credit card, and mortgage debt? Sounds good to me! /s

On car configurator, a fully loaded one costs near enough £100k. Way too over priced for a car of this class. Considering a Range Rover and Range Rover Sport with similar spec would be about the same too.
