Thank you for sharing. Based in the UK with a Disco Sport (L550). I will be fitting one of these and will certainly use this for guidance. It seems you also have what the guys at Merryway call 'the Harman system' judging from the connectors on the back of your screen. On the plus side, my head unit is not under the seat but behind the aircon controls. On the downside, that will require completely dismantling the dash 😢

@The Fitting Bay I got my unit from Aliexpress and after follow the steps on your video everything worked great except the sound. I am not able to get sound from the unit and I already tried many different things. The sound is working if it is coming from the original OEM but no luck with the new unit. Do you have to put the sound mode in AUX or something like that? I tried that too but maybe I must do something else?

I believe you have to select AUX mode in the original UI and also there is a dummy jack to put into the AUX plug.

That is correct, wifi hotspot can connect and you can leave one in the car. Yep universal cameras will work fine. Highly recommend not using wireless ones.

I have a 2018 Evoque with a stock 10.25" JLR infotainment screen (CD player...so Bosch). Can I swap out the stock widescreen with the Android one? All the videos I see on this are replacing the older style screens.

Hi, can anyone explain why you always need to fit an external mic? Why doesn't these systems use the stock mic's that come already fitted into the car?

genuine mic still used for Bluetooth :) secondary mic used for voice control with iPhone and android etc. they can’t get the OEM Mic to do all the work as it’s connected directly to the factory system or Bluetooth module and splicing into it will only cause problems

Did you figure this out? I’ve heard others had a similar issue where the reverse camera does not automatically appear unless you’re in the original menus at the time…

What I don't understand and actually hate tbh, car has a factory mic and gps. Why put down an external mic and gps? Why don't they include appropriate adapters. I see the same with VW. There are adapters for the factory mic's and then they do a crappy internal mic on the "vw specific android radio". Lol.

1 - the GPS antenna is used for factory navigation, it cannot be spliced into. So you can remove it but then you lose the retention of ALL oem features. So a new antenna is installed for the new unit to be able to collect GPS data for time and date and GPS location etc. 2 - MIC - the impedance on MOST factory mics is totally different to that of an AM unit, so again if you can manage to splice into it you run the risk of ruining it and in turn losing the OEM bluetooth all together (big NO NO in this industry) so a new mic is provided for Hey siri functionality and Ok google etc. Longest comment I have done in a while so I hope this helps someone. Cheers!
