There is a fascinating story about how it got its Censor Board certification. So the board passed it on to the Defence Ministry as the movie was casting aspersions on people in control there. Mig--21 crashes were sadly very frequent at this point. So the Defence Minister of that time Dr. Pranab Mukherjee who was later the President of India, saw the movie alongwith the 3 Service chiefs and their families. Rakesh Mehra and other folks who made the movie were presernt of course. After the screening, the minister got up and left smiling saying that it's not the job of the Defence Minister to certify films and that it is upto the Service chiefs. The Chief Air Marshall was dilly dallying about allowing the movie to be released but at this point the wives of the Army Navy and Air Force chiefs put their foot down saying that it is such a good movie and the youth deserve to see this. All this as the director was helplessly looking on. Finally the Air chief gave in and the movie was deemed okay to be released :)

This film was a watershed moment in India. It actually lifted a generation from the apathy of politics and contemporary discourse. What's shown in the film - people marching and protesting against injustice and corruption actually happened, 5 years after the film released. It kinda sorta inspired the future.

The people covered by the reporters were actually talking about the real freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Chandrashekhar Azad and their group of other freedom fighters who joined them back then. It was Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's brilliance to ask the audience about the real freedom fighters and use their reactions for the movie.

Thank you so much for finally watching this. Rick is right again. This film was truly a milestone back then. This one actually rekindled patriotism in Indians in the right way. This movie isn't just a cinema, it's emotion for my age group. I remember watching it in theater when I was 16-17, it made my blood pump up with emotion and patriotism. Of course it's not one guy oriented movie. Everyone stands out with even smallest performances, be it Maddy with his IAF Pilot camio, Soha with her artistic college girl and then serious wife, Wahidaji as mother, Sid as spoilt rich brat many others and of course Mr Perfectionist with his Punjabi daredevil college passed out guy... Rang de Basanti ❤️

Fun Fact. Hrithik Roshan was offered the role of Actor Siddharth, the character who kills his own father, however he denied since he wanted the role of Aamir Khan's character. Later Siddharth's role was highly appreciated. I am happy that Hrithik denied the role, he would have been a complete misfit. Now since you know a bit of The Freedom Fighter, you need to watch The Legend of Bhagat Singh. There are other movies representing Bhagat Singh but The Legend of Bhagat Singh stands out completely.

The ending scane was actually different in the script and they shoot that scane with Aamir's character didn't die at the end..but after the shooting was completed Aamir felt that his character should have died.there is no way he can live and it would be more impactful if everyone dies at the end and he told the director about this and they reshoot the whole climax scane again but this time all of them died at the end.. The director is actually a master in blending the past and present time flawlessly..you should watch Bhaag milkha bhaag as soon as possible..he did the same thing in bhag Milkha bhag also

Steven Mackintosh who plays Sue's grandfather in the flashback scenes, is an incredible actor. He was very popular in the 90s, turning in a string of stellar TV performances and named by Empire Magazine (I think) as one to watch, alongside names like Jude Law. The last thing I remember seeing him in was season 1 of Luther. My point being he's not some "random white guy" 😁

FINALLY!!!!! I have been so wanting to watch your perception and review for this movie! It's one of the most well-balanced movie, which generates such realistic emotions in you, while simultaneously building a momentum of frustration and retaliation feelings that u feel along with the characters rather than the actors!! Even every song fits in so well within! But.. Korbin how come u didn't cry? Stone-Heart! 🖤🖤

I commented before also that your reviews are really detailed and are themselves an art piece because they contain humor, emotions, critique and craziness. I don't how you guys do it but, either you guys are really obsessed about giving your stupid and amazing reactions or you guys are phenomenal actors because Everytime I watch your content, I have a smile on my face. Thank you for this. You guys are perfect. Rick's careful research and emotional investment in how he thinks about each film, and Korbin's honesty and nuanced perspective makes this channel the best thing to ever happen to the Indian film-review scene on KZread. And thank you Rick for understanding what this film means to us as Indians. This film and Swades have been so instrumental for me personally. They lit a fire under my butt when I was at my most impressionable age (7-11 yrs) to make the country a better place to live in, in whatever small way I can. And I think this might be true for a lot of young people in the country.

He was very brave man, he used to say that he will never be caught by britishers. He did what he said. He killed himself before britishers caught him. He shot himself because he had only one bullet while fighting against Britishers. Jai Hind, Vande Mataram , Bharat mata ki Jai 🇮🇳🙏

That’s the good thing about Aamir Khan. He doesn’t need to be the centre of the film. Like in Secret Superstar, he was only a supporting character and he let the girl shine which is why I love him. Many big stars other than him would want the film to be centred around them but not Aamir Khan.
