I just now bought a Rane One and I am elated.. as a DJ just breaking in but really loyal to old school... the Rane one has me smiling so big. Like something Ive wanted as a child. So much more confident taking gigs with this than my DDJ SR2. Which I loved to help get me started. I have a big background in music so gear and tech doesnt really hold me back. But I wanted something good for mobile gigs that was as close to turntables without me spending 5k on a good set up just yet. The rane one checked all the boxes for me. And my first hour on it had me wanting to marry it. Lol.

Thank you for your review. I have been looking very strongly at the Rane One, especially since Numark is no longer supporting Mac OS updates for the NS7ii. I feel dangerously stuck in High Sierra with my 2015 Macbook Pro. It just seems to make sense to give this unit a serious try now that the new Mac's are out... I DO still love my NS7ii, however... It's such a wonderful unit.

I have both & Rane One really did nail it but with the NS7II being damn near 8 years older, it isn't an apples to apples comparison. Being almost a decade apart, you would think The One would be eons ahead of the NS7II...not so much. Being that they have the same parent company, Rane One is pretty much what the modern day NS7 would've been.

Yes, thanks for your comment. Rane and Numark are both now owned by Inmusic and basically I’ve been told that Rane took over NS7 production, thus Rane One is really NS7IV.

Just a small detail that should be mentioned is that when it comes to audio quality people should keep in mind that time that NS7 2 came out. NS7 3 improved the audio quality up to the later standards.Comparing that with Rane One is surprisingly different.NS7 3 is louder without distortions,Rane One is cleaner and slightly crispier,in comparison NS7 feels like it was ment for club environment when rane One more towards smaller gigs. Both are capable for any job tho.

A couple of weeks ago we got a NS7 3 around and i can say that it is super punchy compared to any other gear that has came out the last two years,in some cases it is slightly flat. I can't say that the one is better over the other, they are different.

@@johnroth148the NS7 was amazing, but I don't think the comparison between the two is fair. Rane one is much newer and therefore has better integration. I own a Rane One and would recommend, but certainly wouldn't object to NS7, it's still a great piece of equipment, much better than Pioneer have ever made.

Thanks for the comparison... after raising an eyebrow at Numark NS7's, Denon SC5000M/SC6000M, and Rane Twelves these past few years it was the Rane One that I finally pulled the trigger! It ticked all the right boxes for me... the size and all-in-one unit was just what I needed... 2-channels is all I wanted... build and sound quality were a plus. Last, but not least, motorized platters was an absolute must! I have tried to connect with other units, but they felt lifeless to me and were cluttered with extras that were useless for my use case.

  • @GrayGhostDog1

    @GrayGhostDog1

    3 жыл бұрын

@@djlennyb ... to each their own. Rane One was close to what I was looking for in a DJ controller. If I recall, NS73 had a mirrored layout. I could get use to that, but I came from using vinyl/Technics so the Rane layout was more natural for me. I also prefer a 2-channel mixer. I wanted to avoid the extra fluff or extra real estate needed to accommodate more faders/knobs that I would not be using. I've had a little play-time with the Rane 62 mixer in the past... The Rane One platter implementation is so, so NICE! I would gravitate more to a 12" platter size like what's found on the Rane 12's, but the Rane One's platters are spot-on for the size and a tad larger than the NS73 platters... I was not a fan of the NS73's back-lit color scheme. Some of the buttons were touch-sensitive or something, but kind of gimmicky for my uses. The NS73 screens were a cool feature to me, but would have been redundant for my needs since my laptop sits front and center... Effects? Serato effects may not be as good as the plug-in effects found on my DAW, but works for me and not sure the differences between the effects on the NS73. I do not recall if NS73 had hardware effects.

I have the NS7III. Here is my take comparing to the Rane One. The mirrored is what I like about the NS7III. Wish there were more controllers like that. I like that I can have three different effects for each side and trigger all six simultaneously. The NS7III being 4-channel also helps if you should ever need to run auxiliary. The three screens make it more comfortable to look down at the waveforms rather than looking over at your laptop. Navigation to the library from the screens are also a plus for me. The Rane One isn't better than the NS7III. It is new and different. Edit: The paddles next to the faders have always been a nuisance to me. I will sometimes miss the paddle in a dark setting or when I'm not looking and nudge the volume down.

Excellent points and reflections. I agree that the NS7III has it's advantages also and I didn't do a good job of outlining them. I like both controllers. I purchased a rane one a year ago but my laptop was to old and out dated to work with the controller. I just recently upgraded to a new MacBook and went with the ms7 3 . It works great. But one of the things I was curious about rane is they make really good cross faders. And I wanted to try out some scratching on the rane one. Although I had the numark ns7 1 for years and it still works great but it runs on 32 bit so I don’t think I can use it on newer laptops because most of them now are 64bit. The cross faders do good on the ns7 but they tend to sound like they bleed or lag on the crab or hamster type of scratching. But either one seems good.

The Rane One doesn't have a volume knob for the sampler player, deal breaker for me ... a 1500 dollar controller lacking something that a 500 dollar controller has!

I had to sell my Technic 1200 years ago due to hard times. In a much better place financially now and thought I’d get those new expensive technics or even some used ones but now think I will be getting this controller. 1200 were back breakers

The only thing in my opinion is that the Numark being out so much longer its easy for rane to capitalize on ns7 down side plus the Ns7 2 and is not the top ns7 since the 3

It amazes me that we are comparing a unit that was built in 2015-16 to a unit that is built in 2021 wow that says a lot about the unit that was built in 201516 NUMARK sat the Bar and is still Boss however there are units that have more to them and they should Makes me think that if NUMARK comes out with a NUMARK NS74 it will make everyone be quiet

Scottie you are right about the clueless part. Looping on the NS7ii is as easy as a fart. Rane mixers have never been great on sound output. I always have to pass them through a pioneer mixer. Rane faders are superb, that’s it. Putting a pitch fader next to a channel fader was ridiculous on the Rane.

Doesn't rane own numark? No doubt the rane one is a product of the ns7ii imo

Yes, thanks for your comment. Rane and Numark are both now owned by Inmusic and basically I’ve been told that Rane took over NS7 production, thus Rane One is really NS7IV.
