Random Gods in ORCΛ
Ойын-сауық
Random Gods cover made in ORCA esoteric programming language.
It sequences the notes and events, the sound is generated elsewhere.
I don't use that tool very often, but it's a lot of fun and actually very fitting for this particular track visually i think.
Also made a General Systems Bus inspired color-scheme for it, but it's kinda hard to get it right with the way themes work in this program.

You need to put an "S" symbol at the 17,3 to make the "rain" go

I can't believe you put the entire world of Rain World in just a screen while playing Random Gods! Five Pebbles! Looks to the Moon! Outer Expanse's Tree! The retaining wall! The rain! The snow! Outstanding!

There are so many ways to interpret this image and all of them are relevant. You can interpret this as the Rain World Map, or as General Systems Bus only. Also I looked up and saw slugcat spinning around. 10/10. The music is amazing and incredible.

The entire bottom also bares resemblance to the city/metropolis . The Outer Expanse tree looks vaguely like an iterator or a vulture's head
Something about that harsh rumbling sound and the pitch bend make me keep coming back to this.
Oh this is *really * cool. The longer I look the more detail I notice Some fun parts I noticed: The rain falling The tree Pebbles and Moon's cans "Please stop" at the bottom of Moon's can "All the water" at the bottom The fact that the 'rain' flows into Pebbles' structure Chasing Wind at the top The Great Cycle right below CW Survivor appearing
oh my grub this is perfect. youve done it all, draw the iterator structures and oe , make the very complicated music cover, all in this sort of "programming language for music" from what i understand. also a slug appears at around 2:13, neat! this is very beatiful. even a literal chasing wind in the top right, its great. good job
crazy to hear this and realize we're at the point of making what the iterators are right now...

@@fw_gamer2777 Sorry for late reply. It's a music making tool. Orca is a programming language for controlling musical instruments, that is represented in a nice visual way. Each symbol is either some data or an operator that read, modifies or creates that data. It's very fun to play with, and you can make some interesting complex stuff in it. It doesn't make sound by itself though, it just generates midi signal.
oh wow this is REALLY accurate it even feels like something that'd happen inside of five pebbles! almost makes it feel like the song in the game is coming from the world itself
For me this works as a retro futuristic surreal music videoclip for a very clever and advanced audience.
Havent seen anyone point out the "please stop" just below LTTM :( cool code/music btw very awesome
Every year, every month, every week rain world community impresses me with something creative and unique
Huh, someone made a programming language out of Conway's Game of Life. Gives me flashbacks of a copyright protection mechanism in the old Commodore 64 game Zone Ranger. It was a fairly typical space shooter, but if you flew into one area on a bootlegged copy, the world would explode into a surreal, glitched out mess and you'd find yourself flying between random snippets of text and game assets before inevitably touching something that would make you explode. I get the feeling, old/retro tech like this straddles the threshold between our world and Plato's world of Forms.
@dragondragon8546

Conway's game of life has more direct variants, which I think have varying degrees of proofs for turing completeness. Personally I think it's cool but kinda impractical, but art doesn't need to be practical, so it's as good a medium as any. Can't wait for brainfuck's doom release to happen. (A joke because there's probably already a brainfuck version of doom)

@@Schnort Not surprising -- a specific copy of an obscure game from 40 years ago isn't going to have many surviving artifacts. It's only because of the efforts of half-crazy archivists that we even have longplay videos from that era. Since my memory is the only evidence of the glitch I know of, all I can do is use circular logic and say it looked a lot like this video. XD

how... how are you visualising rain world while also playing one of the most complex(i think) songs in rain world perfectly... it's beautiful
I'd like to think that this is what the song sounds like in the game. Hearing an iterator even process anything probably sounds like this, and with the wavers of tone is a thought moving to another, an idea moved to another idea. Prossesing if it would even work just like that! And the crinkling noise could be just the rain falling at 2:58! Its just so awsome

@Ongomato

Thank you, I'm glad this inspires people to check out the program! The art aspect of the patch was a lot of fun to do and it evolved naturally over the iterations, almost as if it made itself. As for the samples, there's a bit more going on behind the scene that i didn't show in the video, there's a whole Reaper project with a bunch of tracks(5 or 6 of them iirc) one is splitting notes and sending to the rest of them. Each track uses Vcv rack to generate sound, so it's all synthesized in real time. The sounds are an approximation of what I'm hearing in the original, and it was kinda hard to get close to the sound and i think it has a lot of room for improvement still. In the end it was supposed to be more about Orca and less about sound synthesis so i guess it's ok.
What is this beautiful thing?
I actually kinda jumped when the survivor showed up.

Thank you! Sure, so, i send the midi signal to a DAW(I'm using Reaper), there it gets split into 3 different channels based on velocity and then routed to 5 different tracks(serving as instruments basically) The only synth is VCV Rack(virtual modular) and most of the signal generation and filters are Surge XT modules. There's also an improvised FM synth on one of the tracks, but it's all very hacked together just to make it work for this particular project. Most of the time i'm not very happy with the rigidity of normal synths and when i know what i'm doing VCVRack allows me to build exactly what is needed, so yeah, great synth!

I wish i had a simple answer. It was quite a trouble getting this to sound close to the original. I think with the sound part of this project i had to start over 8 times. The big constant hum is pretty easy, it's just a stack of multiple octaves of slightly detuned unison square wave oscillators through some filter. The blips are the messy one, it's a combination of some wave table oscillators, noises and a Karplus-Strong string oscillator. I'm not entirely happy with the result but i had to stop at some point.
Wait... the little white creature i saw it before? Can someone explain to me what i'm seeing here? I don't know where i saw this creature, but i distinct remember it from somewhere?
