Rand on top of Dragonmount is the most touching and powerful thing ive ever read. I was crying real tears for him and maybe myself. Once he became zen Rand it felt like the biggest weight was lifted off of my chest. Robert Jordon did such a good job of leading Rand into cold logic/ violence, by that point in the books I too agreed that he should just be brutal and cold to achieve his goals. I, like Rand, had lost sight of what it all really was about. When Rand was ontop of Dragonmount the epiphany wasnt just for the Dragon but also for myself. Im so grateful for Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson for that

It really was a fantastic scene. Frankly I dont think Sanderson had anything to do with it, a lot of the chapters and scenes were already written and im absolutely sure that was one of them.

Having thought about this, best way to do fantasy like WoT is through anime or cartoon format. Look at Xmen 97, invincible from a cartoon perspective. The story board is there, you don’t need to change a huge amount of story structurally, but you need to make it watchable. Imagine watching rands character arc it would be cinema

When I was first reading through WoT I thought Rand continuously refusing to be the chosen one was annoying, but as I kept reading through I understood that it was a completely reasonable reaction to keep avoiding this immense responsibility since he was simply a farm boy when it all began.

Wheel of time has to be the most memorable book series for me ever. Whilst some arcs didn't always turn out amazing, Rand was consistently my fav character throughout every book as (like you said), I could relate to this man's fear of failure. The whole series was a rollercoaster of emotions, the world Jordan created was so memorable and I really felt like people had lived in it. After about 11 months, I've finally finished the entire series and I can safely say Rand al'Thor - "the man who had been called lord, Dragon Reborn, king, killer, lover and friend" is my favourite chosen one and protagonist in any piece of fiction EVER.

Rand's arc is really so amazing. What gets me is how it fits in so well with the primary premise of the story which is that the Dragon can potentially either save or destroy the world! Something that seems illogical and ludicrous when first presented and it makes the primary directive of the main villain (The Dark One) to leave Rand alive and even PROTECT him seem baffling and foolish. Until he slowly and eventually reaches that moment at the end of Gathering Storm where he literally almost single handedly is about to fulfill the Dark Ones goal and you are like holy shit the DO is a F-ing genius of infinite patience. He almost won by doing what seemed like the exact opposite of what he should have been doing! And this journey was crafted meticulously over a dozen books! True story telling brilliance on the part of Robert Jordan.

This was a truly brilliant video and a wonderful reminder of one of the greatest character arcs and journeys in all of fiction. Wheel of Time is my all time favourite book series and Rand is my favourite character in the series. His story means so much to me and it’s part of why the books are some of the best pieces of fiction that exist. Though the TV show seems determined to desecrate Robert Jordan’s story and characters, his writings live on as works of art. Thank you for reminding me of them again. It might just be time for a series reread of my own. May you always find water and shade my friend.

Rand taught me alot about my philosophy for life, helped shape my view of myself and my Christian faith. He helped establish the person i want to be, by seeing his strengths and weaknesses, i realized who i will do my best to become. Rand is the epitome of learning moderation, which is what i believe God ultimately wants for us, that moderation of stoicism and emotion. As a young man i will strife to be masculine, to be strong enough to bear the burden so i can continue moving and provide for my future wife and kids, i will be strong enough to keep moving forward even when its tough even when i get so frustrated and feel like i can't do anything or I feel like I want to die because I feel so worthless, that i only make mistakes, i will never give up, i will keep fighting. But i dont have to bear it alone, i dont have to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, my friends, family will help me, my loved ones will bear it with me, cause its not just about me, its about us, all of us. Rands entire story is about failure and overcoming odds as well as learning to forgive himself and be strong enough to move on, but to accept help from other people and be happy. Because in the end, with the world set on his shoulders, after all of his struggles and all the pain and suffering he went through, he found happiness in the end, he achieved his wish and was rewarded for his perseverance, like you said he never gave up. All these characters were great and the story was told amazingly in this awesome world, what an anazing story The Wheel of Time is, it's my favorite piece of fiction and will forever be that. Thank you God for allowing me to experience this story at the time i needed it the most.

Thank you very much. Outstanding work. I hope the creators of the TV show get this right. Without the breaking, forking and rebuilding of Rand, the show must fail. But there was a dialog between Tam and Rand in Season 1, that implies they might be on the right track. Edit: I too love book 12. It felt like the true climax of the series. To me it felt that Rand could not fail later on, because he already had. It is so well done, it touches me more than any other hero in any story.

I was trying to be emotionally hard in my own life at that tome. When Rand went to dragon mount it lit helped me look at things differently. I am currently writing an ongoing fantasy book series where a divided empire is attacked by an invading horde of monsters. For the main character, I drew inspiration from several fantasy heroes like Rand al'Thor. Like Rand, my main protagonist has multiple love interests, wields immense magical power, is a leader of nations, and is the one who fights the main villain in the final battle.

I never thought about it that clearly before until you mentioned it. Rand is literally like a soldier who knows that he has to sacrifice himself to save the world. Like black widow in Infinity war or Bruce Willis in Armageddon. The show isn't really driving this perspective emotionally home yet , but i think it will become more obvious later on

Fantastic video, great essay, such an amazingly well written "chosen one" archetype character. I don't know if anyone can ever follow up on such a masterclass of that character archetype. Rand is THE chosen one in my mind. My nitpick is that some of your pronounciations get me heated after so many hours of listening to the audiobooks 😂😭
