Rancher Defends Wild Foals From A Stalking Bear At The Flying L Ranch Full Video Unedited Orig Audio
A rogue black bear is hungry and stalking our young wild rescue foals. I was alerted to him predating the herd by the lead mares, and when I looked outside I could see him moving in on them.
I had just enough time to yell to my kids to grab their phones and I grabbed my gun!
During these situations we try to stay in a place of observation and let animals be unless there is a certain threat of injury or death to our herds. That’s when we are allowed by wildlife law to protect our animals. It’s always a balancing act.

Wonderful video. Wow, you all are in good physical condition. I have bears that come to my house in spite of having five big dogs. A mum and her 4 cubs pulled a 30 lb bag of sunflower seed from the garage and ate it all on my back porch. I’ve had the privilege of making direct eye contact with them. In spite of my love for black bears, I know how bears takedown prey and eat. I no longer keep birdseed in the garage.

They will let you know by their behavior. Lifting their heads and keeping a close eye on one area, if or when the predators get to close the wild horses will start to form circles by running and will put the young and seeker in the center. All the while moving the circle farther away from the predator. Ideally we want to notice the predators and the horses behavior before they start to run circles. As that means that the predator is very close. Have a great day

@@tobiasmcintyre7777 Well first of all, there wa no "defending" of any kind. All they did was just run around from a distance. Secondly, the bear was just strolling through and mind its own business, yet they overreacted as if the horses were in trouble. Third, if these horses are wild and the bear is part of that ecosystem, than why are these people pretending to be saviors of wild animals against another wild animal? They're interfering between the very natural habitat and nature of things such as prey vs.predator which is big part of a healthy ecosystem. They're basically doing more harm than good imo. Prove me wrong otherwise.

Thank you for your comment and questions. We are an off grid wild horse and hay ranch in a remote valley of British Columbia, Canada. In the full video you can see that we hazed to bear to hopefully make sure it doesn’t come back. For your second, in the full video you can see that the best was sniffing the air, smelling the foals and walking directly toward where the wild rescue mares and their foals are. In our fenced in fields and protected inside our ranch. Third is the also the same. These rescue mares and foals are inside our ranch perimeter and thus protected by us. They are rescue mares which were brought in because they had lost so much weight and needed to gain weight for their births. I hope you have a wonderful day and please feel free to learn more about our ranch on our other videos and also our Instagram page which has daily ranching videos. Didn’t seem like click bait to me. Nor does keeping a careful eye on rescue mares with foals seem like interfering with nature. The natural world is complex and those of us who respect it are often faced with dilemmas involving our place in it. We all make the best choices we can in good faith, often with less information than we’d like to have about the potential consequences of our actions on the delicate balances of an ecosystem. I thought there was plenty of action…just no mayhem-which, by the way, was probably everyone’s goal. So, mission accomplished.
