Ranch Fun Dip with Sohla El-Waylly | Genius Recipes
This week's Genius Recipe comes from Sohla El-Waylly. It started as a fresh, crunchy road trip snack, but along the way Sohla created a speedy, genius way to eat loads more vegetables anytime, anywhere. Take it on picnics and car rides, sure, but you'll also want it for the cheeriest-and fastest-work-from-home lunches around.
Don't stop with the ingredients listed below, take the concept-and your own cravings-and run with them. In the video, Sohla invents a satay-inspired Fun Dip, with charred cashews, dried shrimp, coconut sugar, and extra-spicy ground chiles (and Kristen gets very hungry). GET THE RECIPE ►► f52.co/2CAKWGk

2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
2 teaspoons Diamond Crystal or 1¼ tsp. Morton kosher salt
2 teaspoons Aleppo-style pepper

SOHLA! HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU!
90% here to support Sohla! But I like this idea, road trip food needs all the help it can get!
Seeing Sohla on my screen again is like having family over. Thank you for having her on!!!

Oh my gosh I clicked on this so fast I LOVE SOHLA!!!!! Just the way that she talks about food, she's a genius. So creative, so fascinating to watch and learn from. Also my first name is Kristen so I pretended she was talking to me when she said, "Hi Kristen!"
Love Sohla! She's such a true talent. Made her date rolls the other day. What a star

Completely agree, I made the date cinnamon rolls a few weeks back and they were amazing. She rocks!
I need more Sohla in my life. Fun dip, fritters or anything made by Sohla is delicous!
“I haven’t tried this flavour before though so if it’s bad we’ll find out together” 😂 I strive to be as confident as Sohla. I’ve always admired how experimental she is with her recipes

Sohla is the person who got me to revisit a lot of recipes that didn't work for me the first time. To try something new, and to re-try things because that's how you get better. Her positive attitude makes me excited to do stuff in the kitchen again. And the whole thing about "this is how I do it, but here's three other options you could try, and also, just do whatever", is exactly what I need in my life. And if you don't like it, that's also ok. Just change it the next time.
Because of Sohla, I bought my first packet of idly podi and I'm getting my second one soon. That thing is good on its own, honestly.
I've been having Sohla withdrawal. This helps. :)
So, so glad to see you back online Sohla!! I have missed you!
Sohla is so patient and gentle. I just love her so.
Saw Sohla and clicked! Love her 🥰
I like the way this was set up. It feels as natural a conversation as the in-studio content. Intimate and seamless - despite being in two places.
SOHLA! I also noticed that Food52 had a video with Hawa Hassan. We see you, Food52 :)
I love that so many other foodies and food videographers and publications are supporting Sohla, the internet and the works are better with her in it. Also can we all acknowledge how much food knowledge and inspiration this woman has!
Sohla, in every video: I've never tried this before, so it might be terrible! Still waiting for any recipe of hers to turn out terrible.

fishbeaumont To be fair, it’s because Ba has a meticulous recipe testing process. But they’re shady. It’s like a pedophile doctor who has the cure for cancer. You wanna kill them because they’re horrible but you can’t because they have like a good thing, even if it doesn’t balance out.

Her cilantro Kitkats were pretty nasty, but that was more of a gag and not a serious attempt to make tasty food. 😆
Sohla is so experienced and knowledgeable! I love her unique twist on food. Thanks, Food 52 for bringing her on.
I’m so happy to see sohla again!!!!!
SO happy to see SOHLA!!!! We all need more Sohla in our lives.
Sohla really is a genius; there is no one like her. Also, I had seen this recipe before and forgot to bookmark it. Thanks, Food52, for reminding me about it; I can’t wait to give it a whirl.

I just tried it this weekend, and it’s literally changed my life. On veggies, I put it on corn on the cob, elote style, popcorn, baked potato, man I am literally putting it on everything 😆
When Sohla mentioned the tropical fruits, I had an instant flashback of going on roadtrips with my family and dipping pineapple and mangos into a baggy that's just salt, sugar, and crushed habanero peppers (It's supposed to be Thai chilis, but my mom likes it HOT).
Sohla in video: it will be watched, no exceptions
I watched this to watch Sohla! I won’t be making the dip because I can’t get all those ingredients, but it was worth watching this just because Sohla is the best!!!!

I can believe it!! I just discovered this recipe on BA two days ago and made it to take to the lake and am OBSESSED!! Sohla we love you so much, it’s so good to see you back sharing your genius with us! Guys, you have got to try this recipe!
I'm so happy to see SOHLA :D
I just love Sohla... She's so refreshing and laid-back.
“I feel ready to hop” Sohla is one of a kind ❤️
when sohla said she wanted to make a dip based on what she was craving, i had the idea to make one based on the taiwanese chicken nuggets at boba places bc i love those. immediately ran to my kitchen and made it! also used powdered pb as the base instead of nuts and the texture is amazing as a result.
So happy to see Sohla again
Sohla is so inspiring and genuinely is one of my top 5 favourite people ever in the history of... people. Every time I watch her cook it makes me so excited to cook something that I haven’t cooked before or am afraid to cook. She is so creative and has such quick thinking and seems so adaptive and peppy and her personality is addicting! I love her and I hope she is happy and healthy during these dark days of fiasco the world is in. With love from the PNW -Kara
Ohhh, this sounds sooo good! Brings to my mind other dips such as Mexican tajín to dip pineapple or mango in, or even furikake, maybe...? I'll have to try this. Love you, Sohla! 🧡
Thanks for showing support for Sohla!
hell yeah sohla and road trip food!!!! i've always needed road trip recipes lol so this is a great win-win
I love Sohla and what a great recipe idea!

Thank you for the Sohlae fix. I am tearing up just getting to see her.
SO grateful that you've got Sohla on here. Amazing recipe too!
Great seeing Sohla! The latest news from Sohla is that she will not be appearing in any future BA test kitchen videos, because BA failed to give her a decent contract that her talents bring to the test kitchen. As a result I will remain unsubscribed to BA and I look forward to seeing Sohla in videos outside of BA and will subscribe to this channel in hopes that she will appear more in the future!
S-O-H-L-A! SOHLA!! ❤
This reminds me of something similar, sort of a dry chutney, that my dad makes with roasted peanuts, chilli powder, garlic, sugar and salt. It is amazing, especially in grilled cheese!
Couldn’t click fast enough for Sohla! She’s my hero because of the way she exposed racist practices at BA.
SOHLA!!!!!! She is awesome! Miss seeing her! Thanks for having her on the show
So good to see Sohla.
I LIVE for any crumb of content from Sohla!!!
We all miss Sohla! She will go super far ^_^ Btw, this fun dip would be sooo good with a little dried mushroom powder.
I love Sohla. I’d totally watch her own KZread show.

While i totally understand you guys' concern, leave it to her and enjoy watching the video. Such comments are rather irritating & unnecessary.

@@tahsinfairooz5477 Haven't you learned yet that silence is the problem? Generations of "not wanting to talk about such things" is what allowed BA to get away with all their BS and not pay Sohla (and so so many more like her) what she deserved. Even Sohla herself had to yell at her co-workers before they spoke up. The least we can do is remind BA that we care about what happens to her. Until our comments become truly unnecessary its comments like yours that are really rather irritating.

@@thoughtsofanobody i have learnt. But asking such questions while she is trying to work. Expressing all these unnecessary "awww" and what not seems rather uneasy. If you must, then go ask her personally. Plus there are ways to ask something. "Did they pay you?" as a youtube comment is not any way of breaking any silence. Better if you go ask the authority if they are compensating their employees for the work they put in to make the platform/establishment into what it is, everyday.

SOHLA!!💕
when i went on a 12 hour road trip we made little ziploc baggie salads with little cups of ranch and we ate them with plastic forks. it did not go well.
I’m thinking I’d set a little aside to use as a spice blend for cooking. Nice and complex!
SOHLA!!!! MY QUEEN!!! LONG LIVE SOHLA REGINA!!
SERIOUSLY genius. And so awesome to have two options. Thanks so much for this!
Yay, more Sohla please!
Sohla needs to be a huge, well paid, food superstar. Great recipe designer. Spectacular personality. BA didn’t deserve her talent.
