Ran into a few issues restoring the Ferrari 308GTB. What's the latest updates from the CAR WIZARD?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Restoring any car can be frustrating, especially when that car is a vintage Ferrari. The CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ and his crew have made progress, but have also run into a few new issues.

Headlight parking position is adjustable via part# 61268600 which is an adjustable length rod between the lifter motor and the headlight bucket. Some cars have this as a fixed length rod and in these instances you are forced to remove the pivot arm (part# 40213902) that comes off of the headlight motor and adjust it forwards or backwards by one spline at a time until you achieve the height you want. I hope this helps and best of luck with future progress.

@BENZINA does the 308 have plastic bushings in the pivot arms to keep the arms from wallowing out?I know on my mom's probe, those bushings are shot, and cause the light to bind half way up. It also caused the sheer metal where the bottom mount bolts to push in ever so slightly (and jerks sitting on the headlights when its parked).

First, unhook battery. The motors to the headlights are very powerful and if you are not careful they'll take a finger off. Remove grill just behind headlight. Manually turn the top black knob on top of the motor to manually lift headlight. i have a feeling the one main bolt is loose, so check all bolts that mount/lift the light. IF no loose bolts, look at where the headlight will be in the DOWN position and you will see a screw with black plastic top. That is the screw that dictates how far down the light goes. Unscrew it a bit to make the headlight rest a bit higher. Then manually lower the headlight via the black knob atop the motor and check for fit

Happy Christmas Car Wizard ! I have some info for you re the seats - you can easily get hold of *Alfa Romeo 33 / Sprint* seat rails, which have the same mount points as the 308 (Alfa Romeos and Ferraris share a lot of parts as you will know) - and these rails are flat as pancakes. the seat mechanism lives on the rails, and are operated by bowden cables on lever mounts to the side of the seat. They also can be mounted inside the seat structure (upside down, inside the cushion) so that the seat is flat on the floor. For the satisfaction of your wallet, they are plentiful and cheap even now. With kind regards, and season's greetings.

Radiator fans. On one of the previous videos I noticed one of the fans looks like it is mounted backwards. The shape of the airfoil should "scoop" the air back towards the radiator and I believe it was the RH fan had the "scoop" in the airfoil facing forward. Should be a simple matter to pull it off and mount it back correctly. It should make a big difference in the efficiency of the fan.

When they used the 308s in Magnum PI show, some of the screen used cars had the driver seat lowered as far as possible, almost 2 inches... because of Tom Sellick being so tall.. they needed to get his head down below the windscreen height. Its fun watching the show and noting the appearance of the many 308s that were used... some you can clearly see the lowered seat back, and others are dead stock.

The seat issue is something I know all too well wizard... I've got a 75 bricklin sv1 and the seating position is a similar issue where all 6'4 of me in the car with the seats in I get compacted by the gull wing doors and I fit perfectly with the seats removed and am trying to find some very thin racing seats to make it work.... It's an issue with a lot of these mid 70s and 80s sports cars where they were seemingly designed for someone that's 5'8 to maybe 5'11 but that's about it so I know your pain... Keep up the good work man! Always enjoy watching the projects!

Being a 93 Celica GT owner, and the son of a 91 Ford Probe owner, check the arms for the motors for the headlights. Make sure the plastic bushings in each arm are in good shape, as any play in them will cause one side to work faster than the other. As far as adjustments, there should be a bolt with a rubber head on it for adjusting where they set when closed. Opened, not real sure, short of spacers under the bolts where the headlights mount. If the headlights have bound at some point, then the bottom mounting bolts may have bent where they bolt to, possibly sheet metal and a welded nut down there.

Sometimes there stuck closed for the entire trip. The hand crank in the tool kit has come in handy. You probably have figured this out by now with the seat adjustment, but if I slide the seats up to reach the pedals there is no way I am getting out or back in the car at that seat position. in the center counsel piece, where the ashtray use to be, why don't you just fab a couple of Cup Holders? Or, Fab a pocket holder for a cell phone(s) with a USB charging port?... Lots of things you can do with it instead of just covering it up.

Excited to follow your restoration on your Ferrari 308 GTB. If you are wondering what front spoiler you have on your car, it is probably from the Ferrari 208 GTB Turbo that was sold in southern Europe. Greetings from Norway.

I'm thinking that some clever use of L or dogbone stock, or flat stock with circular bar stock welded to the edge -o then trapped in simple square or round stock, with quickpins to allow multiple locking positions, WOULD give you the headroom at a cost of less than 1/4 inch. Not a quick job, but an enhancement to the value since seat rails will be impossible to find soon.

Hey car wizard, since you are having the seats reupholstered, you could add heated and cooled seat then use those extra holes in the center console for the switches on those heated and cooled seats. Just an idea, but I hope it helps.

Those carbs (and their need to be re-synced often) is why my dream car is the 328. Actually, my dream car is a 288 GTO, but I don't see the value ever dropping back down to where I could afford one.

Fiber glass is easy to do. Glass the back of the console to fill the holes, then use fiberglass filler on the front, sand it smooth and have it recovered

Someone may have messed with the lights or even as the relay failed the light motor may have skipped some teeth. Dont know how they're made but that's happened with other motorized mechanisms I've seen before.

On my Mondial there is a knob on the top of the headlight motors to adjust the height of the lights, as for stuff working then stopping that’s just old Ferrari stuff, usually bad connections…. Good luck with the rebuild

To cover the holes in the center console why not have a plaque made. Silver. A wizard version of the Ferrari shield. Instead of the cavallino (prancing horse) have the silhouette of the wizard from your logo and your initials instead of the two letters. Or maybe the date of the completion of the restoration. Maybe your wedding anniversary date there. You guys seem like a great couple and I wish you all the best. Looking forward to more episodes.

Well with the interior room theirs a reason why the 308 targa got chosen for magnum PI, you could take the roof off so you could sit in it, the 928 they looked at, not so much with Tom there, hence why the opening scene was him dumping the roof off and leaving it off from then on lol and to think that was the same car they used in the cannoball run too with two priests in a ferrari, as the lord is in a hurry my good son lol

Even the genuine Bosch 30A relays are now sometimes DOA from Mexico. And Littelfuse's Mexican plant was quietly using 12awg wire for fuses spec'd 10awg, unknown to Littelfuse.
