The football used the same name as the baseball team, as was common back then. The Bears are called the Bears to fit with the Chicago Cubs. The San Francisco Giants played in New York and the football team used that name as well.

History repeats itself... The reasons that caused the Rams to relocate to St. Louis in 1995 are the same ones that caused the Rams to relocate back to Los Angeles in 2016. Basically, "stadium problems." Also interesting how both initial press conferences were fairly standard affair, a bunch of speeches from the ownership and some local fan support.

The definition of how a team was stolen was when Los Angeles hijacked the Dodgers from Brooklyn, including the team's history, nickname, and colors. The Rams aren't even originally from Los Angeles, they were from Cleveland.

Joe402 New York didn't have National League Baseball for 5 years after 1957. To this day, the Borough of Brooklyn doesn't have a MLB team. Despite what some claim, the Mets are not a replacement team for the Dodgers. The NY design that was on the NY Giants cap is on the Mets cap. The blue color does little to replace the impact of Brooklyn not having a MLB franchise. I'm sure that there are people old enough to remember the Cleveland Rams, not to mention their children who had the memories of the Cleveland Rams passed down. The amount of jobs lost if the Rams leave St. Louis would have a major negative affect on St. Louis. I do support Los Angeles getting an NFL expansion franchise. Much like with the Kings, they would develop their own unique history in the city of Los Angeles,

ptp44444 There are a ton of cities with an AL or NL team without a team from the other league, in any case I don't think there was much difference between the leagues but the name until the DH rule was put into effect. I agree that an expansion franchise would be the best solution for LA but the NFL doesn't want expansion so unfortunately we'll either see another city have their team taken away or we'll see more threats for leaving to LA unless stadiums are publicly subsidized.

Nope. St. Louis as an NFL market doesn't make any sense. It's ideal for baseball and perhaps soccer but not the NFL since people only hopped on the bandwagon once the team barely won the Super Bowl by the skin of their teeth againts the Titans. Once the team came down to earth, they stopped caring, just like they stopped caring about the Cardinals which caused them to relocate to Arizona.

LA told the NFL to shove it because as the editor in the LA Times put it, "The NFL needs LA, LA doesn't need the NFL!" The folks in LA have always laughed at the thought of using tax payers' money to pay for a stadium as ludicrous and laughable since they thought the NFL should build LA and a brand new stadium and beg LA to put a team there! LA TImes writers even mentioned the fact that Houston, the other city considered for an expansion team in 1998, was actually more qualified for an expansion team than LA since it has better business management, ownership, and city and state support, but the one thing Houston has going against it is the fact that it has to compete against LA, a city that no professional sport leagues could survive without! It was this kind of gross arrogance and laugh-in-your-face attitude of the people in LA that made NFL owners changed their minds about extending a new franchise to LA and instead they awarded it to Houston. Now, that the NFL has not just survived, but thrived without LA, why does the NFL feel the need to move any team there? Football will still be king in America for eternity without LA, why boost the ego of those egotistical LA fools even more by giving them a team that they obviously don't deserve?

Franklin Clinton The Rams were in L.A from '46 through '94. 48 yrs compared to 20 yrs in STL.
The wrongs will be fixed in Feb 2015

LA told the NFL to shove it because as the editor in the LA Times put it, "The NFL needs LA, LA doesn't need the NFL!" The folks in LA have always laughed at the thought of using tax payers' money to pay for a stadium as ludicrous and laughable since they thought the NFL should build LA and a brand new stadium and beg LA to put a team there! LA TImes writers even mentioned the fact that Houston, the other city considered for an expansion team in 1998, was actually more qualified for an expansion team than LA since it has better business management, ownership, and city and state support, but the one thing Houston has going against it is the fact that it has to compete against LA, a city that no professional sport leagues could survive without! It was this kind of gross arrogance and laugh-in-your-face attitude of the people in LA that made NFL owners changed their minds about extending a new franchise to LA and instead they awarded it to Houston. Now, that the NFL has not just survived, but thrived without LA, why does the NFL feel the need to move any team there? Football will still be king in America for eternity without LA, why boost the ego of those egotistical LA fools even more by giving them a team that they obviously don't deserve?

+Grand Wonder Let's face it, LA is not going to support the Rams when they come back in Fall. They just shot themselves in the foot with that deal. I'll bet the NFL will be like "Son of a fucking bitch, we should have kept them in St. Louis." Besides, people are a million times fucking nicer in St. Louis than they are in LA. I would rather live in St. Louis than LA because of that.
