@@mrn234 Actually thats correct, since their accident in 1996 where a beam on the stage collapsed and caught on fire Till got more into the pyrotechnics side and he got a license for them.

Till is rather shy in private. He said in an interview." I'm fishing. I hunt. I stare at the lake. I sleep in the woods at night and listen. I listen to nature. It's amazing what you hear in the forest at night. That is indescribably beautiful. I hate noise. "He also writes lyrical poetry, he has published two books of poetry in Germany. He only trained as a pyrotechnician when he was already a singer with Rammstein. All members of the band are non-flammable.

Till was a swimmer before entering the music business. As I remember, only Flake (the keyboard player) was handling pyrotechnics at start but after an accident where Till got burned they all took the time to learn this new skill. In fact, Till had so many injuries on and off stage (but still related to the concerts) that he could write a book and make it a best-seller.

Yep, you got it right. Till was a really good swimmer, he had a shot at their Olympic team. I have been listening to them since the late 90s, They're still going strong for a bunch of guys nearing 60!

I heard that he quit swimming because he had an accident (car crash, as I remember) that gave him a big scar in his belly that is visible in the Mutter original video.

@@eduardomendesvieira2561 I don't know about a car accident but Till got kicked out of the olympic team before the 1980 olympics had started. During the 1978 European Championship he sneaked out of the hotel to meet some west german swimmers but got caught. Remember this was 10 years before the end of the Cold War and a GDR citizen doing this was a political issue. This was likely the forced end of his carreer.

Isn't he a pilot too? I've seen footage of him at least learning to fly the plane.

My wife and I live here in Lisbon, and in 2023 we had the pleasure of going to the Rammstein concert held at Estadio da Luz, it was simply epic, sensational.

The Stadium tour 2019 version of Sonne has much more pyro and a much, much, much better stage design.

Thats true the 2019 evolvement of the stage is amazing. But don’t forget that this was at a festival they didnt get to completely build their own stage

Travis, the mic stands are indeed designed to fall down to keep them out of the flames. They have a kick stand arrangement so they can just put their foot on the end to bring the stand back to its vertical position.

You should really watch the "Rammstein in Amerika" documentary. Till is a gentle and shy introvert. The fire serves two purposes; 1. to direct attention away from himself (even the role he plays to hide his real self), 2. to catch and keep the attention of the vast majority of the world who does not understand German (which is sad, it is a great language) and thus do not understand the subtleties and many layers of their texts. As others have said; after the Treptow accident in 1996, Till became a licensed pyrotechnician, and the band started a cooperation with a German special effects team FFP. The latter actually making most of their stage effects.

I could almost feel the heat from that stage, I think Rammstein used pyrotechnics from the start with Till being burned several times. Part of their set burned down in 1996, so Till got himself certified as a pyrotechnician so they could do the crazy shit more safely. So I think it's fair to say they've loved the explosions and fire from the start. And as Till is uncomfortable in front of crowds, the pyro displays take some of the attention away from him.

There was an accident in the early days where a flaming rammstein sign above the stage broke from its chains and fell onto the crowd. Minor injuries were suffered but it could've been much worse. Till became a licenced pyrotenician after that. He is the only fully qualified pyro of the group. He is the lead pyro designer and acting on-stage pyro supervisor for the rest of the band so they can all operate the Flamethrowers, fire fountains and fireworks without needing to be qualified themselves. The flames are fuelled by a natural organic powdery substance called lycopodium, not gas as many people would expect. It is mixed with air in a cyclonic chamber before being ejected and ignited

For anyone who didn’t know, sonne means sun. So the chorus is ‘here comes the sun’. Very suitable with pyro 😅

I was front and center at their show in Vegas in 2017, where they had the same stage, set list, pyros, etc and this was so freaking hot. Event staff passed water around to everyone in the first few rows because of the high heat exposure we were all getting.

the stage show of sonne in the 2019 tour was insane... the whole stadium felt on fire.

It´s so amazing to see how much passion you both show watching this. You guys are phenomenal! And Suzy...you are soooo gorgeous! Btw...Rammstein never disappoints!

To really appreciate how vast and intricate their stage shows are... watch their KZread video time-lapse setup of their 2021 stage 30 semi trucks,and personnel alone is beyond vast,and stage rises higher than the stadium,and the aluminum decking alone....covers the entire floor of the stadium/field,etc...must check it out.

At this show Till was 52 or 53 years old! Christoph, the drummer, is at least 50 & still a banger. I'm that age but couldn't do 2 hrs on a treadmill like Flake does in a live show. Asche zu Asche & Rammstein are good live videos. Ich tu dir weh, Mein Teil, & Benzin live have fire directed at people, using specially designed equipment. This band knows what they're doing with choreography & pyrotechnics.

Did you guys watch it with the english subtitles? :P Yeah, both guitarplayers can "hide away" their mic-stand, Richard has a pedal that controls if it goes up or down, while Paul has a spring that cathches it when he kicks it over. It's very possible that he kicked it over here to hide it from the fire path, but he's pretty fond of playing with it, so he probably would've kicked it over wether there was fire coming or not ;D

When I was at their concert I almost couldn't handle all the heat during this song. It was amazing.

Growing up with 70s Rock, Prog and Metal, finding few bands in the 80s other than The Cure and The Manic Street Preachers, Grunge and Rammstein were a life saver in the 90s. I can't express how much this band takes me away to another place.

Lindemann is also a qualified pyrotechnician. After an accident at the Treptow arena in Berlin on September 27, 1996, where a burning stage prop fell into the audience, Rammstein began employing a professional pyrotechnical crew and Lindemann has learned from and also trained with them. Each band member is specially instructed on the pieces of pyrotechnical equipment they use on stage. Of Lindemann, band mate Christoph Schneider says, “Till gets burned all the time, but he likes the pain.” He has also engaged in other masochistic acts on stage, such as whipping himself and bludgeoning his head with a microphone until it bleeds, both of which can be seen on the Live

7:30 fun fact about the 2 guitarists. The one on Till's right; he kicks over his mic stand and it lays flat on the floor, when he doesn't use it. He raises it back up with a foot lever. The one on Till's left; his mic stand raises and lowers into the floor mechanically. When he needs it, it'll raise up, when not needed it lowers back down into the floor. There should be live videos showing them in action.

7:07 back in 1996 Rammstein did a performance with a burning rod hangiing from the stages ceiling, and it crashed down. It almost hit the band members. That accident was the reason why Till decided to take a full-time training course (in germany that takes about 6 to 7 days, depending where you live, but it's full time) to not make any mistakes with dangerous pyros again. Edit: I almost forgot, because you asked for his decisions. Till actually didnt want to be a musician in the first place. When he was a teenager, he was an athlete swimmer doing very good and even was chosen to take part as an olympic swimmer for the GDR (german democratic republic AKA East-Germany). If he'd followed the rules he would've become an olympic athlete nstead of a metal legend. Luckily for all of us, he went out of the boot camp without permission, got kicked out of the olympic team and became the music legend we all love that much.

We were stood in front of the sound tower and it had been raining so hard that day that the flames were a welcome bit of warmth 😂😂

*Fun fact: "Sonne" [Album Version] was used as music for the trailer and the opening credits of the french action movie "La Sirene rouge" ("Red Siren")[Year of release: 2002].*

Lindemann grew up in Wendisch Rambow in the GDR with his parents and his sister, six years younger. At the age of eleven, Lindemann took sports education at the Rostock Sports Club. He did not get along with his father, the writer and poet Werner Lindemann, who would have abused him, among other things. His parents divorced in 1975, after which his mother Brigitte remarried an American. From 1977 to 1980, Till Lindemann attended boarding school. Lindemann trained and worked as a carpenter, basket weaver, gallery technician and cartwright. He was European junior champion in the 1500 meters swimming, and was nominated for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. However, he was banned from participating because he left the hotel without permission to buy a Playboy magazine during the European Youth Championship in Rome. His swimming career ended due to a muscle injury. In 1981 he refused military service and narrowly escaped prison for this fact.

That FUCKING riff! That may well be the nastiest, heaviest, crunchiest riff ever in music! Absolutely amazing! Till became a pyro after an accident in one of the early shows of their career. He must have thought, "hell, if I´m gonna burn to death doing a show at least let it be my fault!".

He was a pyro engineer and he still is an engineer a product to his shows 😊😎

yeah, what QueenCobra said is true. If you want to see why Till was concerned watch "Rammstein-Reirate Mich-concert accident-live in the Arena 1996. The video is not very good but you'll notice the band tries to keep playing after the accident, but no Till! He was down there helping, you can see him jump back up on stage, very cool. You want to see one of the original stunts, look at "Rammstein-Rammstein live @ Bizarre Fest 1996, I like their old concerts.

Sonne was originally written as an entrance song for a boxer Vitaliy Klitschko (that’a why in official release song starts with countdown from 1 to 10), but he rejected it because it was too heavy.

Til was a drummer in another band, and when he comes to Rammstein as a singer, he begin to play with fire on stage. You have to see the live at madison square garden on dvd, you have a documentary with a lot of information on this incredible band ( sorry for my english i'm a french guy 😉)..... The song "Sonne" Rammstein was written by the personal order of the Ukrainian boxer Vitali Klitschko! But when the track was already ready, he refused and did not claim the rights to this song. Therefore, Rammstein, having slightly altered the original version, added the song to the well-known version. After the scene caught fire at one of their first concerts, Till decided to become a pyrotechnician! So music is in his blood! )

I don’t know if this has been said already, but the song Sonne was going to be written as an entrance song for former boxer Vitali Klitschko, which is what the guy says (sorry I don’t know your name). One of the working title was Klitschko. But the song never got written as an entrance song for Vitali because he felt the song was too heavy.
