This song also comes with a twist. You think all the time that he's doing bad things to someone and feeling comfortable doing it. Instead, he sings into a mirror all the time. He inflicts pain on himself and then feels better, like a new person. The stage show also fits in with this. Flake climbs into the bathtub in a black coat and comes out in a glitter suit after suffering pain. He is now a new person. The ship is his body and his mind is the captain. And the captain can do whatever he wants with the ship.

Wow, thanks for describing this version, it's very close to how I feel! I first heard this song when the LIFAD album was released, and from the first listening to the song I realized that it was about self-harm. I had an experience of self-harm in my youth, and I hear all too familiar thoughts in this text. Plus, an important aspect in the psychology of a self-harmer is depersonalization. A person is so detached from himself and his body that he hurts "him" and not "himself." Plus, Till himself throughout the biography of Rammstein clearly demonstrates self-damaging behavior. He smashes his head with a microphone until it bleeds, whips himself with a whip, cuts himself for the MHB video (and we can still see these scars on his shoulders and chest), and he does many other absolutely crazy things with his body. The line about the captain and the ship, and especially about the mirror, these lines just say in huge letters that this text is about self-harm.

Because of this song, among others, the "Liebe ist für alle da" album was censored because it was considered harmful to minors. The album was not allowed to be advertised and sold to young people under 18. Rammstein sued against the decision, got right and was compensated with a few thousand euros.

These guys are worth the 20 hour trip for sure. I flew all the way to Europe (I'm from the Middle East) to watch them live this year and it was DEFINITELY worth it. Cant wait for their next tour I'm definitely doing it again if I get the chance :)

By the way, he also had a big issue with his right knee as I saw him on stage. The shows are still good, but I do not know, what happened to his knee. You could see, that he was struggling sometimes a bit more, when he was walking.

We can all be glad and happy to have the possibility again to see them live for the x-th time or the first time, because in 2020 Rammstein announced the end of theire band! Only thing stopping them from theire final breakup was Corona!! They were not able/allowed to do theire "Goodbye-tour"! Theire Tour was postponed many times... and during this time, they found theire way back together, made a brand new album and will be Rammstein again for hopefully at least the next 10 years!!! 🤗🤗 So, if you don't have the 💰 now... maybe they are closer to you the next time and you have the time and 💰then! I often saw them live, especially in the early days!! No comparison to today's shows, but still impressive even back then, "100 years" ago! 😉 I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll see them live someday.

@@NORSEVIKING Actually, he performed in Rammlied with light in his mouth - however, during the tour he had an infection and had to switch to a light on a cable going through his mouth instead of pierced cheek

Even knowing the lyrics, this song does things to me 😅 The line "I see your face in the mirror" spins the song to where your realize he's singing to himself, so the song is masochistic. On the actual music video Till for real peirced his cheeks and had little lights put in them, most 9f all their videos have "making of" videos as well and in the video for this song you actually get to see them putting the lights in his cheeks to light up his mouth, it's awesome

Love of official video, a great song and performance. I've always read it as coming from the perspective of a masochist. The live performances brings in the S&M suggestion though. Either way, there's a voice of experience singing here. Till is known to have an interest and at times a need for pain. Each to their own, not for me the but there you go. Albert Fish,btw, would be regarded as serial killer by modern criteria. He was convicted and executed for the murder of three children but suggested there were more (he claimed to have roasted and eaten one little girl, but his claims were never confirmed). Now there was a man into some extremely weird and devoting stuff. Such a great performance of the song by the entire band. I feel your pain over missing out on this tour-I had to concede very late on that I was too ill to go to the Cardiff concert. I'm not ashamed to say that I sulked like a teenager over that for days! Perhaps unbecoming for a 56 year old but I don't care!! Great reaction as always from you, keep going as there's lots to see and hear.

The current tour is the farewell tour. This tour is the end. There won't be another album either. If you don't see them live now, you'll never see them again. Til Lindemann said that Rammstein could maybe give a concert in Zunft at festivals ... but nothing more.

The epicness of this tour...will not be topped. It's unlikely they will return to N. America bc of the cost involved. I'm spoiled...I worked w the band on their 1st 3 tours here, and am seeing them for the 18th time next month. At great expense. If I were you...knowing how much you enjoy the band...I'd figure out how to make a pilgrimage and see this once in a lifetime show! Till is using one boot clip but no harness, on that platform, over 30ft up. He has said that he's a bit of a masochist...

Hello. Nice reaction, dear. This song is about S&M sure as f@*ck. And so much fun to listen to. One of my favourites. Till, for sure, enjoys pain. Not my cup of tea, but hey whatever blows your hair back 😄. And yes, you got the little twist in the lyrics about the mirror. Nice. Flake (keyboard) once said in an interview, when they made the album, they realised there were so many "nice" songs on the album, because the environment in the south of France was so beautiful. They decided to go back to Berlin (November cold, gray, and rainy) to create this song. Till's voice comes along so angelic and beautiful, so they had to make the lyrics the "evil and naughty" . When I heard him saying that, I laughed so hard.
