You think that Thailand wants to stare at Khmer and wants to steal your culture, it's crazy to think short of the fact that there is a culture like being born from the fact that we used to be a city up in Cambodia or Cambodia used to be a Thai city, so it has the same culture, but in fact, the original culture is Thai, but Cambodia has already taken it and customized it to match the old dance.

Probably because it is much longer, much more discussion about ethics and less easy-to-memorize cast of characters. Ramayana had overpowered Rama as central character, loyal Laksa as the sidekick, Sida as the princess, ten-face Ravana as the main villian, the superawesome Hanuman, heroic Vali, ...Mahabharata got Arjuna and four brothers sharing one wife, Krishna having his own role in the story and many complicated relationships. An old illiterate man in Cambodia can tell the entire plotline of the Khmer version of Ramayana with his memory. Try explaining the relationships between the cast of characters in the Mahabharata and the headaches began.

@@Account.for.Comment Your explainantion of memorization is alittle too simplicit. Memorization of the Mahabharata was not impossible. The Cambodian Reamker is actually fused with many sections from the Mahabharata, an attempt at saving some of the other epics despite of the new Buddhist elites. The birth by sacred mantras invoking the various devas of the Pandavas brothers was fused into the backstory of Sugriva and his siblings since Sugriva himself was said to be a son of Indra. I was surprised when I read the prologue of the Reamker but it does make sense. Hinduism is entrenched in the Khmers despite of the Buddhists best attempt to sideline it.

Mahabharata did not fit the political agenda of the culture in that region. The Ramayan was about obedience, leadership, good vs. evil, right vs. wrong. These were the ideas leaders wanted to instill in its people.

Back in the era with more Hindu believers, the Mahabharata is also well-known in Cambodia. One of the earliest masterpieces of Khmer art is Krishna and in Angkor Wat, large parts of the wall were carved with many episodes of the epic. The Ramayana is more popular because the characters are much more memorable. Hanuman showed up everywhere.

Excuse me does siam has original culture? I really don’t know . Coz just known that all of siam cultures are copied from other country esp copy from Khmer .
