Sorry to burst your bubble bro, but it's not like that. Indonesian Islamic (and to an extent, religious) culture is overbearing and overpowering. If I were to tell my family that I don't fully agree with the teachings I was brought up with (via a forceful and toxic, fear based education at my school which is considered more liberal, mind you), I would be seen as a disgusting heretic. Yeah sure it depends on families. But you also can't generalize that it's all smiles and happiness. I know friends who are routinely judged because they aren't part of the majority religion. There are many, many cases of unfair treatment to people who aren't part of the Muslim majority. By the way, my family is considered liberal. Obviously I'm not saying it's all Muslims, that's far from the truth , I have met wonderful Muslims and religious people. But if you are making a blanket statement about how everyone is nice like that, you're flat out wrong, and it's annoying to me that we only talk about the good sides and not the harmful sides. Think on that.

I am USA born Catholic and have been to Indonesia 8 times and today have a Muslim Indonesian family and I have always been shown love and smiles and warmth by all the Indonesian people I met! You are so right in changing the narratives about Muslims and Indonesia would be the right place to do that. Like you mentioned most people would never guess that the largest Muslim populated country is in Southeast Asia! ❤️ Indonesia ❤️

Thanks my arab brother. sadly anti-arab sentiments and racisms are growing up and rising here in indonesia due to political polarisation. One of the indonesia's next president candidate is an hadrami arab and he has always been one of the favorites for the position in the coming election. He is now currently a jakarta's governor (his name is anies baswedan), he is in this vid too 9:16. Numerous of ultranationalists and self-claimed indigenous people claiming that anies baswedan is a foreigner because of his arab background and should not be allowed to be a president. It's funny for me because the so-called indigenous here are not that indigenous, their ancestors came from east asia and south asia, and these people were not even the first group who came to this land. Melanesians or papuans were the first who stepped their feet to this land and they were never respected by government, they are treated like as if they aren't human due to their black skin and appearances. Anies Baswedan's ancestor came to this land from hadramaut more than 200 years ago and there were no such thing as "indonesia" at that time. His grandfather, (abdulrahman baswedan) was the one who convinced egypt, gamal abdul nasser, the arab world, to recognize indonesian severeignity. and the arab countries were the first to recognize our existence as a nation.

Thank you for such an informative and fun video. I'm a RomanCatholic from the Philippines. Recently, I found peace & clarity in the Quran. Reading It is helping me in a lot of ways. There's this peace and clarity I carry with me ever since I started to read more. I can't explain it. Back then, I try to be kind to every person I meet. I try to be a good friend, a generous sibling and a caring child to my parents. If I'm able, I help others in need. Yet I felt this void in my chest during the best moments of my life. I tried to come back to the Catholic church tbh. God knows I tried. But it just didn't click. Reading the Quran, as I learn more and more. Made a lot of sense. It is literally a guidebook in life. How awesome is that. I always believed that it is my personal responsibility to always improve. If I'm not working, I would always exercise, read books and listen to educational podcasts. The Quran resonated with me when it started to talk about Halal and Haram. I love the idea that Allah cares so much about our wellbeing that he wants us to only consume or do things/actions that are good for our body, mind, soul and society. I am still new. And I'm still learning. Note: This comment is not intended to create divide amongst christians and Muslims or any other religion. I am just sharing my personal experience and would like to express gratitude to Islam, this new found peace, my understanding christian friends/family, and of course, to Allah for His teachings. 🙏

@@dharmabulahab6789 read the history of Indonesia, at that time many were impressed by the hospitality of the Yemeni traders, and at that time many peoples converted to Islam because of the hospitality of the Yemeni traders, what distinguished them, Indonesian Muslims at that time did not erase Indonesian customs and culture (for example is a prayer beads/tasbeeh that were used by Hindus, were converted to dhikr), and that became the basis for religious tolerance in Indonesia, now finally becoming the hallmark of Indonesian people as a whole.

You know, i have been go around Indonesia city from Medan (north sumatera), Banjarmasin (south borneo), Jakarta (capital city), and last to Bogor (west java). In my interaction through stay with each city people, the most imprinted is when i stay ini Banjarmasin (south borneo), the muslim in there are so different (in positive way). I can see love, tolerance, forgiveness and loyality to Allah in there. One accident that i really remember is when someone ini this place got a motorcycle theft accident (If me of course i'll got really mad). But the people in there are react different, they said " astaghfirullah, may Allah forgive his sins" , "maybe he need money, but I hope he will repent soon", "I hope no one got misfortune like i was, please becarefull. Insyaallah i got better one"( this is a message from someone who lose the motorbike), and last there also someone react with "insyaallah, if that's your sustenance then it will come back to you". Ofcourse they also tried to spreed the news is anyone have seen the motorbike in social media. And a couple days later, someone uploading motorbike pic and said "anybody know who owner this motorbike is? I found this in the field, abandoned. Last night cop make ambuse near here and found some thief", a friend of the owner see it then inform her. Thats when i realize, their reaction is not odd at all... sorry but my first impression when they said all of it is like 'whaaat? Are you serious not get mad??', yeah you know for me, the people who drowning in the world and see the ugly reality, their reaction is odd to me. Once again sorry i was wrong. From that accident i learn the other muslim perspective, and try to live more sincere so i didn't go insane if something go wrong with my life. Edit : And people here also live in diversity and live harmony with other religion.

Sorry to burst your bubble bro, but it's not all like that. Indonesian Islamic (and to an extent, religious) culture is overbearing and overpowering, and extremely hypocritical. By the way, my family is considered liberal and I'm from Jakarta, the literal capital, the supposed most "advanced" part of the country.

Every Christian and Muslim need to study both the Books (Bible and Quran) very carefully. Islam depends on the words of one person, one total Stranger! The stranger who manhandled an innocent man, the Islamic prophet, at Hira cave and pressed him at least 3 times, without any provocation! Who was he? Did he reveal his identity or name? No, never. Did he claim he was angel Gabriel from God of Abraham? No, never. See his mysterious behavior! Even a street bully won't press an innocent man without any provocation! Entire Islam is based on this one person, since Allah never interacted with humanity! Allah never spoke to any human being till today. No human ever seen him! Allah remains as a character inside the pages of Quran, the book that the Stranger brought! Did Allah carry out any activity in last 1400 years? If you know anything, please share. Any witness for above Stranger? No, none, till today. 1.8 billion people follow this total Stranger! Without asking any questions. From very childhood asking questions are discouraged and blind faith is instilled in young minds. Whereas God of Bible forewarned and foretold about this Stranger well in advance! The Stranger who will directly stand against God Almighty's saving program for sinful humanity, that is, by sending His son in order to die on the cross of Calvary. Now, what was the most important mission our above total Stranger of Hira cave had? 1. Deny Jesus as Son of God Almighty. Declare boldly that Allah got no son! Declare that saying Allah got a son is the greatest sin! 2. Deny God of Bible's second program: deny Jesus died on cross of Calvary. Say the ultimate falsehood, that some one else died on cross! 3. In short blind the eyes of humanity to God Almighty's saving program and generate doubts about it in human mind! That is the declared mission of Islam. 4. Stand against Ten Commandments God Almighty Himself declared on Mount Sinai! Encourage the Islamic prophet to brake the Ten Commandments! The Stranger of Hira cave, the real person behind Islamic religion, spoke directly against what the Real angel Gabriel of Bible spoke to Mary, the future mother of Jesus Christ. See below please. Luke 1: 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy-the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. In Quran we do not know the real identity of the Stranger! Whereas Bible forewarned about him as below, well in advance! 1 John 2: 22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that he made to us-eternal life. 26 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. 2 Corinthians 11: 4 For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. Islam spoke about another Jesus- Issa! Islam spoke about yet another spirit -- the so called Jibreel, spirit of Allah! 2 Corinthians 11: 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. John 3: 35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. Galatians 1:6-9 No Other Gospel 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel- 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.

one of the facts of iftar in Indonesia: 1. we will get invitations for iftar from friends, companies you work for, old friends, neighbors etc every year. because Ramadan is also a time to gather 2. Almost every iftar event there are some people who are not Muslim, Muslims invite them because of the sense of friendship to share. 3. Non-Muslims come go to iftar invitation to appreciate Ramadan and his Muslim friends, and sometimes some of my non-Muslim friends fast to appreciate us Muslims. lucky i live and grow up in this beautiful country

Ramadhan Market, the food market that everyone in Indonesia has been waiting for. Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Confucians, Buddhists like to shop for various foods and drinks because there are so many choices and the prices are cheap, most of the foods will be sold-out on that day. There are some foods that are even only available during the month of Ramadan. Muslims also like to distribute free foods on the streets to anyone. Free foods are also available even for those who are not Muslim... The month of Ramadan and the habit of going home, returning to their hometowns, makes the wheels of the economy turn well in Indonesia, the flow of money from big cities to villages, and even remote areas. Souvenir centers, food stalls, small restaurants in the village, and tourist sites become crowded in the village, economic income growth in the village, country side, rural areas, bring more benefits to rural communities and small businesses in villages more than usual. During Ramadan, many prisoners get remission for their prison sentences and many are released during Eid. On Eid al-Fitr, the city of Jakarta which is very congested due to traffic jams, many motorbike riders and air pollution, suddenly becomes quiet, which is very rare, because many Jakarta residents return to their hometowns and they celebrate Eid in their hometown with their extended family and conduct home visits/get-togethers with their parent's neighbors, kindergarten friends, elementary school friends, high school friends. This month brings blessings to Indonesia. We love Ramadan.. 💓

@gold gen In Catholicism we fast for 40 days called "Lent" before celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and then we have 40 days of celebrating. This fast usually happens around the same time every year for Catholics whereas Ramadan can be at a different time every year and I think it is really beautiful when Lent and Ramadan coincide like how it happened this year in 2022. The fast is for the whole 40 days but usually Catholics don't fast from all food and/or drink and instead choose to sacrifice something like chocolate/candy, social media, TV, music, soda, arguing/fighting etc. to give up for the 40 days and choose to make a healthy new habit (start walking 30 minutes daily, serving the poor, going to the gym daily or drinking more water) and stick to it for 40 days and hopefully we can continue the healthy habit after the Resurrection celebration and continue to become a better person.

Thanks for the vlog, I'm Indonesian, I love my Indonesian muslims, yep its true that Indonesian re very tolerant and diverse, a country with 6 religions, 700 languages, 1.340 difference ethnicities, +17.500 islands, united by 1 national language. Indonesia is like made up from 100 countries that become one nation, even the medieval indonesian empire is not big as today, MashaAllah.

Masha Allah, I really love the part where you gave the woman food (3:53), she said "Alhamdulillah rezeqi dari Allah (Rizq from Allah), and she looks so happy ☺ Barakallahufiikum
