"This culture is intrigued with iphones, etc, and they have to look within. It is hard to look within with the 'pizzaz' of the culture. It's tough to be a young person in our culture; they get pulled outward because things are available to them in communication, sex, drugs, and unless they use their awareness to find their inner guru they are not going to get find the true spiritual self" I believe RD is saying there are more distractions than ever, and we have to stay strong to be liberated

Im so glad I have found this video, Its difficult to find young people where I am from who are interested in the ideas of people such as Alan Watts, Ram Dass and so on. It's nice to see in the comments that they exist, Lovely message from Ram Dass as well, thank you for uploading.

Awesome. "Its easy to get distracted from the inner self with the 'pizazz' of the culture... but children can't just look out at these little I-phones and things, they have to look within." Psychedelic advice in a modern context, good 'ol Ram Dass is still keepin the light alive!

So true, life has never been so full of external distractions as it is today. I just hope that those who are true seekers of the ultimate truth can see through attachment towards that which is temporarily fulfilling. If they truly want to find inner-peace then they will eventually see through all distractions and uncover the most precious gift of self-realisation.

Inner space is as vast and infinite as outer space! Evolution of consciousness is going on in real time! We are so fortunate to be alive in this time of incredible technical achievements, but consciousness is a mysterious thing and as soon as you say that is what it is, it ceases to be that!

Thanks for the video! I'm a young (17 years) "spiritual seeker" as you would call it haha :) I've been trying to reach that Place: God, Brahma, The Void, whatever you want to call it, since I've experienced ego loss through many drug highs. I have many attachments (technology, DRUGS, narcotics, alcohol, materials, clothes, acts of ego and theft, etc.) that hold me back from coming back to HOME, what I know is the true nature of reality :) I want to clean my act up. I want to devote myself to the path of getting back Home, without all of the external bullshit!!

Hey Thomas. Your story is so familiar to my own, except I was 24 when I finally ended up in detox/rehab due to my own drug/alcohol addiction... but that's what subsequently became the catalyst for my own spiritual awakening-though it's still an unfolding process and has had MANY "bottoms" throughout the process. I don't mean to drop a shameless self plug here, but I truly think a book I wrote that was just published a few months ago may be of help to you, again because it sounds like we have a lot in common. It's called "Indie Spiritualist" and Ram Dass was kind enough to endorse it. You can find it on Amazon or in any of your local bookstores... Wishing you all the best on your journey. It's amazing that you have this awareness at 17 already!

Richard, back in your days at Harvard, there was a party, and at this party there was a young Indian student speaking about the Mysticism of the East. I believe when you listened to him, you headed off to India, so legend has it. He is my Sat Guru. I thought you would like to know that he is still alive, and is what some believe is a " Perfect Living Master." His name is Ishwar Puri JI. If you do a search on KZread, you will find many, very esoteric, and profound teachings by this man. Peace

To everyone that likes Ram Dass's work i recommend a book called The Present, you can find it on Truth Contest. It's the most revolutionary book i have ever read.
