RAM ADDED to DIRTED TANK! german blue ram breeding project

MD MERCH CLICK HERE: md-fish-tanks.creator-spring.com
So due to the sad and unfortunate passing of the male german blue ram due to internal parasites, I'm moving the female from the tank over to the dirted tank that houses a male golden ram. Hopefully we can get these guys to breed and get some interesting colour morphs from them!

Hi MD, when I used to breed Rams I found the key to be low PH. Like below 5 for any kind of success. Plus 28 degrees C. Also no other fish in the tank, or shrimp, or snails. Shrimp and fish will either get killed by the Rams or eat the eggs / wrigglers. Snails will eat the eggs during lights out. Good luck.

Same here, and having any other rams in there seemed to result in the parents eating the eggs or fry.

Introducing a female ram into a male established territory can be tricky. That is the case with cichlids, they are smart, and sometimes putting a female and a male together aint that successful. They like to pick their own partners. Getting a group of a couple males and females will get you a healthier pair, I also found that pairs that get to choose their own partner have better care for their fry. Where as forced pairs more often eat the eggs or the young because they can get frustrated with their partner. Love the tank. Hope the rams will do great!

German Rams, even @ they healthiest & peak water conditions last just 12-18 mos on average b4 succumbing to the end of their natural life cycle. They hv a span of a house fly, unlike their cousins the Bolivian Rams. These S.American Dwarf Cichlids are the most underrated fishes in the fishkeeping hobby in my upmost opinion. Very peaceful, very hearty & only color up more & more w/ age..., which can easily surpass 5 yrs. An Absolutely Delightful Specimen to consider, especially for those initially branching out into the S.American Dwarf Cichlid genre.

Really enjoying your channel MD! Enjoying your builds and creativity. Keep up the good work and information. I'm Sooo jealous of your water parameters. Where I am in the states, pH 8 and high hardness. Our water tastes really good! Only a fish keeper would be willing to sacrifice taste for softer water, LoL. It's nice our water buffers well so I don't have to do water changes as readily once a tank establishes, but I can't do Rams, and many of the Tetras I would like to keep. Certain plants melt as well in our hard water. Did OK chasing parameters for a while, definitely best to work with what you have. Thanks again for sharing you hobby. Look forward to your next video.

A shoal of 20 is impressive but get a shoal of 50 and they are amazing. Another reasonable sized shoal of cory cats, maybe 15? Again, when in large shoals they display their true nature.

Sorry MD for losing the male ram. Actually am a new gbr mommy... So... I see them eat... They do eat... But in between they spit out. And then I have always kept angels and their belly protrudes when they have a tummy full of food. But gbr tummies havent gone big like that. Dont know how a sunken belly looks like. Their bellies look even... Flat. Is that normal? Please if someone can gude me on this.

Im assuming your plants thrive like that due to co2 injection? My plants grow so slowly.

Hi MD, I was just wondering, do your filters make noise? Because my filters (internal and hang-on-back ones) all make noise. Not that loud, but just enough to notice and annoy me.
