United need more contribution from midfield as they barely mustard 100 mainly due to one player. Breaking down low blocks are still a problem with Telles, Dalot and Fred stepping up which is something you can't rely on. RR needs more of his guys to come in and work on the pitch and video analysis to self critique as they had 45 minutes of actual training due to weather and got a strong 1st half. Hope he rotates the squad see if some guys can fit in instead of playing favorites.

@@LuisRivera-fx9wv Fernandes and Pogba seems they don't fit 442 so far. The problem is that they are our best attacking midfielders but the 442 doesn't have that CAM position, which I don't care about. I just want the 4222 with attacking full backs and 2 cms who hold the midfield

Play 4-2-2-2 against City, Chelsea or Liverpool and we’ll get ripped apart. Player for Player they’re better in every department, will slice and dice through Uniteds formation. I’m not against it but the players aren’t good enough and that’s the challenge going forward.

@@issyjas3309 OK I was waiting for this comment. Listen don't forget that the league has 20 teams. And 38 matches. So if we play 4222 against small teams and dominate. And when it comes to Chelsea or Liverpool or City, we can do 4231 or we can figure something out. Again don't forget that most points come from other teams not the top 3. Moreover, if we get better with this 4222 and improve even more, we still can beat top 3, it also depends on how good we are, not only about 442 or 433.

Yea exactly, and it will be hard for players like , Shaw, Martial, Mata, Pogba, even our best midfielder player Fernandes. I hope the manager changes their positions, not the opposite! which I mean, I hope we don't change our formation just to make some players fit in it. This 4222 doesn't usually have thar CAM position. Moreover, Pogba is bad as cm or cdm. Which position will he be in?

Ralf really brought some sense into the lineup. You have CR7, arguably one of the best headers of the ball in the penalty box so might as well use that strength by having fullbacks and attackers that can cross. The amount of crosses and chances available from those crosses was the first time I've seen in a very long time, very reminiscent of the old Fergie teams. Above all that, basic things such as positioning was what really caught my eye. During pressing, transition or even possession, there was clear positioning of players. During Ole's tenure, this was lacking. Hopefully with each training session, the team gets better and I won't have any doubt that Ralf will implement individual training plans for each player to improve them

The only problem with that is that Ole built an entire side incapable of winning ANY aerial balls, let alone the nuance and skill required to do so in the opponent's box (as opposed to defensive clearances). Most statistics show United as lower 1/4 of the league on everything related to aerial prowess. The old Fergie teams had multiple willing players attacking the ball so it will take an entire team (and much better tactics than our current setpiece coach is offering). I'm still with you and would love for the aerial component to work more, but until Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood risk their bodies to score, CR7 alone won't be enough to employ a change where wingers and fullbacks don't cross to feet.

This formation plays to our squad strengths, the defense had a good day I thought Lindelof was particularly impressive not only with his pressing and aggression but his long balls and occasional attacking forays. Obviously more to come as the training comes into effect but if Ralf can get Fred turning in man of the match performances he'll make a believer of us all! Great analysis as always Dave.

We need that amadou guy! 33M for a 23 years old with good potential is a bargain and he is a ball carrier too! We need to strengthen that position with atleast one if not two!

So much improvement after just 45 minutes on the training pitch. Cant wait to see what he can do after a month and how much better we will look. Im guessing that the game Vs Young Boys we will see some other players play. VDB, Elanga/Amad will probably start if i was to guess

Good video, as always! The teams we are facing in the next few matches should not be super dangerous for us. Hopefully this will allow the team to train while winning games. Keep tweaking the teams, adding patterns of play, replacing players so most of the squad can play this way. We should then be ready for the bigger matches. Hopefully while this is happening, we hang on in the cup games.

@@jirayuvijjakajohn295 lol nah mata is a number 10 in the mould of Isco, David Silva etc. They play between the lines, look after the ball and have great ball retention. Bruno is super erratic, doesn’t look after the ball well and wastes possession. You would never see a Mata or David Silva kick the ball aimlessly. Two completely different types of 10’s.

Otherwise he'll just be like in the portugese national team, losing his starting place. Its frustrating to see him lose his patience, especially when the team is losing, n he just randomly lob the ball around losing possession along the way.

It seems like every single coach and team wants their wingers to be strikers and forwards and thus means they want full backs to be wingers. If todays modern wingers actually played like wingers (Giggs, Beckham) then we wouldnt need fullbacks to act as wingers. Though, i see where modern football has gone so you have a valid argument.

Fullbacks need to be 100% for this formation to work. Hopefully, we can see this formation work. It's too early to judge because big teams can easily counter these strats. Dalot is really suited for this style, I can see him start more often.

Our players are talented. Just needed someone to use them effectively and to their full potential which I think the previous coaches had not.

@@markant9534 doesnt matter still young enough. Look at his face he looks 50 takes care of himself. He is fit too probably does exerciace. He can definately coach them 2 or 3 more seasons. If he does well until end of season, implements the style of his good fotball, top 4 ucl spot, good run in cups then definately he could stay. Either way he is gonna be world class consultant thats gurranted. If the players listen to him they would probably do well. I think Rangnick is gonna come good for them ... From Chelsea fan.

Super onboard with Ralf but hope he signs a CDM and moves on to 4-3-3 ala Klopp/Liverpool cause i dont like 4-2-2-2 with Sancho and Rashford on the same wing.. it feels so wasted. We signed Sancho for 80m to fill out RW void which has been there since Cristiano left..

Goals won't be a problem as long as Ronaldo is there. Just spam crosses to him if nothing works. This was the main strategy of Real Madrid and Marcelo. Juve tried that against Athletico and won 3-0.

Under Ole our defenders and midfielders were asked to sit back. The whole system was based on giving the ball to Bruno and expecting him to either score or find the strikers.

That was wrong asf. 442 is much better , I think Bruno and pogba will struggle finding their position now, because they don't fit this formation

Dalot and Telles have to be our full backs at least for the next few games to see how they get on over a longer period!! I can’t go back to watching AWB going forward the ball, love AWB to bits and he’s an unreal defender but he hasn’t got the full package you need

@@lee6704 first of all dribbling is not priority in that position. Being fast going forward and being fast going back when losing the ball is more important than dribbling. And also crossing , passing shooting,are all more important than dribbling. However , as long as you have both Bissaka and Dalot in that position, one of them have that dribbling skill is enough.

Dave, I think that's a good question. Why does Rangnick use "man to man" if his philosophy is about "zonal marking"? Tuchel said that Rangnick taught him not to go to the toilet with the player. So why are Telles and Dalot go "man to man" for Zaha and Ayew? Or is it called "Zonal /man marking"? Is it about mix? Zonal marking plus man to man?

It's not a pure man to man or zonal marking. It's like moving a slider between man and zonal systems. This guy keeps his slider closer to zonal marking.

I think Pogba’s passing range will benefit this formation so much

honestly if telless could get a little bit faster in his recovery pace then he starts over shaw. I said i loved bruno crossing early in previous games but now dalot and telles doing it gives ronaldo so many more chances/half chances. Ole just forced people to take it all the way to the corner to cross or cut in and shoot. there were no instructions to cross deep and early. so many more options + overlaps

I understand how you explain them. But not quite sure how to implement them. Because they're attacking midfielders but occupy the half spaces.

Rangnick is gonna be permanent manager. Any thing else doesn make sense. None of the managers available offer any thing different. And the man is willing to be the manager too.

Maguire needs to move the ball quicker to the midfield or to Telles. Gave telles more them one hospital passes....... Varane should replace him In the starting lineup......

One thing I loved that Ralf played Elanga. If we still had ole, I don't think ole would have played him. Last season , Ole was completely relying on Greenwood. But when he signed Ronaldo, just completely forgotten about Greenwood. That resulted into the insecurity of Mason. All he wanted was to prove in front of Ronaldo and Sancho.

Completely forgotten? Insecurity of Mason? Atleast back your statements with some numbers. Sure Greenwood can never be the main guy when Ronaldo’s there- understandably so. But Greenwood has played more games/mins. He stared every league game bar the spurs one, also in the Champions league he featured in 3/4 games under Ole this season. It’s fine to be appreciative of Ralf and be optimistic but doesn’t need unfair criticism on Ole especially when it’s so false.

He definitely would have tried to shoot.... Mason started the season off on a high and then, was pushed aside..... Now he's going to get the right amount of game time and especially, the right instructions from an actual tactician... he'll flourish under Don Ralf....

@@markant9534 you put the right player next to him in that midfield pivot , in the right system, & he defends pretty well I rate. He gets the job done with Tchouameni/Kante for France as so many fans have pointed out. We don’t defend for 90min… we’re trying to play possession/attacking football as we saw on Sunday.

Ralf has already made United a more fluent team passing wise and more movements inside the pitch players switching positions and lots of overlaps it’s looking bright for United also one player that shouldn’t be playing no more im sick of him he isnt good at anything only thing he knows is winning one on ones but for example when cross comes into the box or his suppose to mark someone he’s horrendous offensively probably the worst football player ive seen im whole life offensively

Because small teams has lower quality players and we must use our attacking full backs to attack while the 2 center backs and the two cms hold and dominate the midfield area. Exactly like what we did against Palace. And that's exactly how we played under sir Alex, an attacking football with dominating the feild with this 4222 formation.

@@zarifhaq2802 parking the bus is the worst thing to do against bottom teams. Obviously we have better players, better manager, better subs, etc.... so why do we park the bus? Playing attacking football will also increase the unconceded goals ratio as well. Not only goal scoring ratio.

AWB is a RB and need to improve a lot. Tge spider man can’t be playing in other positions. He is not that versatile.

@@srajdevsingh as I said because 4222 and full back give support in width area , while the two midfielders hold the midfield area, this formation covers the entire field and works perfectly against small teams. But against big teams sometimes it works and sometimes doesn't. Depends on our players and our opponents.

@@moe.moe.codgamer5125 In Recent time UTD used to struggle against lesser team. The next 10 games are favourable fixtures by then they should be able to cope.

@@srajdevsingh true we struggled against small teams because we don't dominate, because we used to play Pogba in the cm position which he has no responsibility in keeping the ball ball position, and also because we played bad, slow and defensive full backs who don't attack like Shaw. If you play Shaw and Pogba at the same time, don't expect to dominate games.
