RAISING THE SHED FRAME - Too many mistakes! 🙄

Time to get the shed frame up and be able to see some real progress. Lots of hang ups and learn on the job moments but we got there in the end. Still think I am more of a stud wall fan but always worth trying new things.

    Excellent video, you are my go to channel for this type of stuff, not just good instructions but well filmed and easy to watch as well. I also like the way you fess up to mistakes as we all make them! It’s not about what goes wrong in life - it’s how you fix it that matters! Time to get out there and finish my shed.

    Another awesome build, really well done! Would you recommend the smaller U-shape post supports for a carport and large porch? We're planning to build a car port which will basically be like a lean to blending into the slide of our garage as an extension of the roof. My biggest worry is wind blowing through and wanted to make sure the posts are fitted snug without much flex. The bottom of each post will be exposed to the weather, but hopefully chamfering the concrete pads will direct the rain water away. The other option are the U-shape with a very thick rebar welded to the bottom, that you can bed into the concrete - would you have used them if it wasn't so difficult to get everything square? "By Pythagorus... darn it the concrete has already set!" 😂 Appreciate your advice, your workmanship amazes me! Must be all chicken eggs for breakfast that keep you going

    A good tip for a flat, or flat ish roof. Is build it all flat and level which is easier than creating an even fall, then use furring strips of chosen depth to create your fall before roof timbers go in for roofing to be fixed to

    Using 4x4s and 4x2s is a big waste of money! 2x2s are perfectly adequate. I bought 4x2s and ripped them on my table saw to make two lengths of 2x2.. saved approx £200 by ripping down instead of 2x2 off the shelf.

  • @TheRestorationCouple

    @TheRestorationCouple

    4 жыл бұрын

    I’m not sure that would work on a post structured shed like this but yes, a 2x2 stud wall can be made nice and strong, although remember the centres would be much closer so possibly not that much less timber.

  • @Danish1der
    @Danish1der4 жыл бұрын

    I'm always a bit sad to see so much treated timber being used on the inside of a structure. Particularly when appropriate control of the moisture level (inside the membrane) through ventilation and/or heating will provide equal good protection for a far far longer period of time (as evidenced by the wealth of historic timber framed buildings still standing through out the country). And I have heard you talking very knowledgeable about damp and moisture control in some of your other videos. There is one caveat to this though....builders merchants often only stock a lot of sizes in treated timber, and it brakes my heart when I need some at short notice and treated is all they have. Apologies for any negativity, I find the channel very informative and inspiring. This is just a pet peeve of mine about the unnecessary overuse of treated timber in the building trade.

  • @TheRestorationCouple

    @TheRestorationCouple

    4 жыл бұрын

    I would agree with you on that, especially when dealing with the shrinkage and how that can effect internals. That said, you can’t compare historic timbers in the country with the fast grown softwoods we have now.

    11:35 So how long ago did you give up smoking? 🤣 How are you finding the Hitachi/Hikoki nailgun? I'm thinking about getting one as I'm already tied into the Hitachi battery system, but I'm also thinking my new shed build would be a good opportunity to justify a compressor and get an air-nailer.

  • @TheRestorationCouple

    @TheRestorationCouple

    4 жыл бұрын

    I’ve had lots of work for mine and it’s great, albeit a chunky beast. Depends how much framing and how remote, as a compressor and nailer will cost less plus leave more money for air tools. I would like a 16g cordless nailer but since buying a compressor recently, will probably try going the air route for that one as much cheaper option.
