Rainwater in evaporative coolers makes your cooler pads last forever!

Фильм және анимация

Brad Lancaster shows you why salt-free rainwater is the best water for manufactured evaporative coolers (sometimes called "swamp coolers"), and living evapotranspiring coolers.
You never get any salt or other mineral build up on your evaporative cooler pads when rainwater is your water source. And salt-free, nitrogen-rich rainwater is also the best water source for your plant and soil life.
This video also gives you tips on cooler placement for greater cooling efficiency - whatever your water source.
The video was shot in the dryland city of Tucson, Arizona where average annual precipitation is 11 inches. Filming was done May, 2022 at the beginning of our hot, dry season. Summer rains usually come the end of June or early July.

It was stated in the subtitles that it works best in dry conditions, not humid. It makes me wonder what is the best method of cooling in a humid environment? Thank you for making these videos. One day I’ll get enough people interested in my community to sponsor you to teach a big group inshallah. May god bless you and increase you in goodness.

Brad, we live in VERY different climates (I'm in the rainy PNW), but I lived in Tucson as a kid, and I am such a fan of your work. You have resilient, innovative designs, and have done so much to build a sustainable community in Tucson. Appreciate how clearly you communicate your ideas and educate the public.

Yeah, about that no salt thing... I live in Utah and a lot of our rain is seeded from salt coming off of The Great Salt Lake. It tends to give rain a nice salty kick to it.

One caveat to rainwater. If the rainwater comes from sea there is salt in it. Old Dutch houses have a tilting chanelled block that can direct rainwater either inside the house into a rainbarrel or outside. When the rain comes from land it is as Brad describes. Too much moisture here so swamp coolers won't work but in Spain at my grandmothers in central Spain it would probably work. As always nice to see you posting.

Brilliant, think if these principles were used nationwide or worldwide how much less global warming there would be ... we might actually stand a chance or surviving past the next centuries.

You can soak your salted up pad in pure rainwater to remove a lot of the salts.
