I remember when that cover came out and I was tying myself in knots, trying to string these subs together. Now, my voice has developed enough that I can just sing the whole thing in chest yet it feels so weird because of my old habit of jumping straight to subs for anything lower than a Bb1😂

It's a rattling of the vocal chords, it takes years of practice, but it's basically an octave higher than the desired note. Over time, the blend is so pure, it sounds mechanical. I prefer chest/fry or chest. So harmonics are a real gift of a real singer, I will never know in my old age. But To the best of my knowledge, that is how I can answer it.
