    I made a galaxy slab today but didn't think to look up a tutorial. I use pinata ink but since it dries very fast, I sprayed isopropyl alcohol into several small plastic cups. Then I dropped each color of pinata ink into the cups. I used cotton balls to pick the colors up and dab them onto the slab. I occasionally sprayed the slab after dabbing the colors on to help blend them where it was needed. I occasionally let it dry and added layers to deepen the pigment. I wish I could comment pictures on KZread, but if you have Facebook, there is a group made by blue bottle tree called Polymer Clay Earrings and you can check out my results if you're curious as my galaxy looks a bit different from this. I apologize in advance if you are aware of group or are already a member. It is a nice group and there are so many beautiful earrings posted daily

    Hi Monica, we are sorry it did not work 100% for you. The thing is that working with polymer clay and adding various mediums actually is chemistry. In your case there are several variables and we are not able to tell 100percent why it happened that way. New projects sometimes require also some experimenting and finding the "right way". Probably you will need to experiment. What we would try in your place: 1. if there is a possibility, use the diluent that is originally meant for use with alcohol inks. 2. alcohol (it's in the inks too) is dehydratating substance so that might cause the clay to crack, because it makes it excessively dry - suggestion- use fresh and softer type of polymer clay (hope you get what I mean with this, english is not my mother language). 3. Did you add there anything else except the inks? If you added some kind of powders, these also can cause drying of the clay. What kind of powder was that? We use metallic powder. But for example, when we tried the same method with mica powder, this also dried the clay and it cracked. Hope you will solve this soon! If you find out what caused you the troubles, feel free to come back to this post and share your experience. We are sure, it will be highly appreciated by the community.

  • @MyVian

    @MyVian

    3 жыл бұрын

    That eye shadow looks super suspicious! You can try one more time without and see whether it works. The metallic powder from our video is totally different “ingredient” from the chemistry point of view. So maybe try just alcohol ink+rubbing alcohol and if you are going to buy something, then buy the metallic powder ☺️

    Hi! This is quite difficult to say what has happened there. We experienced something like this when we used translucent clay of one particular brand. If you did something else then the tutorial says, then that exact change might cause the problem. The most important- use white polymer clay, alcohol inks+diluant, if you are going to use powder-use metallic powder (no mica powder/eyeshadows etc) and bake as it’s standing on your polymer clay package, this includes temperature&time ☺️ good luck ♥️

    Hi Mandy, seems like nobody tried it this way.. our guess is that the technique will work, just the air dry clay is not the best medium for making earrings.. because it might break easily.. but what would be a great project for this technique on air dry clay? Maybe a wall deco :)

    Maybe you can help me. I'd LOVE to try this successfully, but every time I cut out my shapes, the paint cracks across the surface, exposing the white. I'm using Fimo Soft white, proper alcohol inks by Ranger, and the alcohol blending solution. It's like all the alcohol is interfering with the chemical makeup of the clay. What's going on?

    Hi Erin, this is interesting and never happened to us. Maybe you can experiment with amounts of the solution and inks? Or maybe you can experiment with the drying time, maybe you are cutting them too early or too late. Also try to sharpen your cutters. Hope this helps 🙏

    Hi Pariksha! The diluent is there to help the powder and ink behave correctly and “move”, so it’s neccesary, but it can definitely be purchased at the same shop as the alcohol inks 😉

    Almost forgot! There is one thing that can be used as the diluent 😉 it has to be something with high proportion of pure alcohol, and surely during these times, you can find easily hand disinfection, but remember- it has to be the liquid type based on alcohol (not the gel etc.)

    I ordered alcohol inks and it gives a warning that the inks are highly flammable and to keep away from heat sources. Is it still safe to use them when baking the polymer clay?

  • @MyVian

    Hi! That is absolutely true. In the tutorial you can see that we let the inks dry out on the clay before baking. To be on the safe side, give it time.

    Hi Mary! In the video we are using alcohol ink diluant, also rubbing alcohol can be used. If you watch the video, you will also see that there is some resting time during which the liquids dry and the alcohol can vaporise. Then the pieces are put in the oven.

    Thank you Cannon! There is needed something that will help the ink to move around and create the effects. We recommend the diluent, it can be bought at the same place as alcohol inks. But if you do not have that option, the diluent can be substituted with rubbing alcohol or alcohol based hand disinfection spray.

  • @MyVian

    @MyVian

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi! We find this technique cool because the inks can mix on the large surface which is then cut into earring pieces. If the clay is baked, it cannot be cut anymore. Or you can cut them, bake them and apply inks after, this will just take away the colour mixing part. But maybe you have different project/plan and you’ll be fine with it ☺️ the remaining question will just be whether the inks will attach to the clay. The best idea would be to make a testing piece 👌
