Rainbow E2 Canister Vacuum

Here I'm showing is the only Rainbow that I have, for now at least. This is one of the newest vacuums that I recently got, I picked it up a few months ago from the thrift store for $10 but it only came with the unit by itself, luckily the attachments came with it. Everything else I bought separately for it. The hose I bought used, the powerhead and wand I bought refurbished, and the RainbowMate I bought new, all from eBay. Other than that, I just took apart the unit, cleaned it up, put in new motor bearings and replaced the HEPA filter, and I had to buy a new nut for the separator cause I lost it during the refurbishment. Overall, this thing works great! I also bought some pine scent to try it and see if I like it or not. It works, it doesn't last for very long but I sure do love the smell! This vacuum was famously shown on a show called Everybody Loves Raymond, that's what really got me into this. Out of all the Rainbows that were made, I really like this one the best because it was the last Rainbow to use carbon brushes and the first to use a HEPA filter. I was never really a fan of the brushless Rainbows. Also water doesn't trap all of the dust so it was a smart move by Rexair to add a filter on. Overall, this is a good vacuum. Performance is similar to a Kirby especially to Rainbow's newest today model the SRX. But I'm still not a fan of using Rainbows. Just very annoying to use, but I gotta say though that Rainbow is one of the greatest vacuum designs ever made in the industry.
Hope you enjoyed!

That's one CLEAN rainbow!! Looks like mine inside...when using these vacuums.... I think it's actually better to fill the basin up with water like 1/2 inch ABOVE the dome...(no more than that) but a little more doesn't hurt and I think it helps keep the machine cleaner...It must be working mine still looks fabulous inside taking the HEPA filter off and lookin inside. My favorite model rainbows are the E series one speed and two speeds....I do not like the SRX...I think mine will last the rest of my life

I had that same model some time ago; I love how these brushed motors sound compared to the more common brushless motors.

That's a regular E series. The E2 is the two speed version. Runs really good for its age!

Yes it is but it is still called just a E2 model. The E2 with the two speed motors would be called as the E2 Type 12 models. Or known as the Gold, Silver, and Black series. That's what I learned when I was educated into Rainbows. But other than that, the unit still ran pretty good when I first got it. I didn't needed to replace the motor bearings cause they were just fine for it's age but every 5-10 years they're recommended to be changed out.

I actually like it, since my Kirby just sits there spinning the brush and I worry it will damage the carpet. I feel like I have more control with the trigger. But it may be a tad more tiring? Never really noticed honestly.

Uh I didn't quite catch that. Kirbys are designed for carpets, if you're worried about carpet damage, they offer a delicate brushroll. While I like having power on the handle, triggers however aren't my thing. I'd rather flip a switch instead.

even thats the one speed versions not 2 with a winding startup pitch when switched to high speed but the newer ones has a jet engine startup not my choice of the rainbows but the quantum vacuums is a little better and have you seen a quantum X water vacuum and sometimes the power head works with your central vacuum that vacmaster2020 does to his central vac

I haven't used the Quantum X before but I have tried to repair their canister vacuum once before when I was working at a vacuum store. It is NOT any better than Rainbow, they're just cheap Chinese knockoffs with no parts support like Shark.

Lol. We've had many great American made vacuums over the years and still do today (Actually this is in my opinion a good vacuum too). I could name a bunch all day here. You're probably from a different country because I can tell you that Electrolux no longer sells vacuums in the USA, they've been out of the market now for quite a while. They've also already sold their other vacuum brands Eureka, Sanitaire, and Beam to different companies. We do however still have Aerus which used to be known as Electrolux USA and they sell some good vacuums today that are made in the USA. I'll admit that I really do love Miele, I've sold them when I worked at a vacuum store and I even own a Miele myself. But I don't like that their parts are VERY expensive and hard to get when they're not in stock. I also don't like that their hoses are short on the canisters and the hoses are problematic on the uprights. And you cannot use generic bags or filters cause their Vortex motors are very delicate.

@@andymalloy7215 umm sorry mate but you can thank an American inventor who came Up with the vacuum cleaner to begin with. This eventually transpired to the Hoover and the long patented it beats as it sweeps as it cleans design. So maybe take some time to reconsider your thoughts before we begin to bash American brands. Especially those that were at the forefront of what the world knows today.

These e series machines were built very well. And most over 25 years old now and still running very very well. I doubt seriously if it was garbage that it would last this long. If European vacs are so damn great maybe you should take a long walk down the troublesome and unreliable road that is Dyson! The UK’s very finest. I don’t think one single appliance ever to come from UK could even be considered as good let alone great. So take your bow and kindly exit stage left.
