Rain, straw, and more goslings!

There was an unexpected downpour overnight so I headed to check Wilma first thing to make sure she was OK and there was no risk to her eggs.
When I got there I could see the water level was safe, but Wilma herself was very wet as was the nest, so I very carefully threw another pack of straw onto the nest for her, one handful at a time so as not to overwhelm her and give her time to place it where she wanted it. Wilma was very happy to accept the clean bedding and quickly set about adjusting it and tucking her eggs into the clean and dry straw.
I left Wilma to work on her nest and went to check the geese and their fluffs. On my way to the fluffs, Limpy and his wife came to say hi. Limpy is a bit of a local celebrity as he seems to have a passion for taking his wife to McDonald’s and loitering around near the roads there. We get so many calls of concern for these two, but they’re where they want to be and will fly off whenever they want to leave.
This evening Sydney seemed a bit overwhelmed when I arrived with their food. There was lots of geese on the grass near the nest and poor Syd didn’t have the energy to see them all off. He did try, bless him, but he’s very tired so I decided to lead as many geese as I could away from him to help, while heading over to check on the goose fluffs.
Sydney does have a bit of a sore eye which is a concern, I’m hoping he’s just a bit run down with being so tired from the ongoing nest protecting and goose chasing.
Next stop was a nearby lake where an injured goose has been reported. We walked right around the lake looking for the reported bird, taking time to say hello to lots more goose fluffs as we went. Sadly no sign of the goose that needs help, but we will try again tomorrow.
