Well I liked the music - has a haunting quality which fits the subject matter. Thank you for a nostalgic trip back to my train-spotting youth.

Thanks for your message, I appreciate that. I recently posted some pictures taken at York and Selby in the 1970s. Have you seen that one? Selby used to be a good place to go on summer evenings after work.

Worked for BR 74 to 89 so recognise all of those locations, you dont relise how run down and dirty the railways were in this area until old photos like these emerge.

Thanks for your comment. BR was deprived of finances in those days, and still struggling to deal with a clapped-out post-war inheritance. Network Rail and the TOC's now seem to have a bottomless pit of money! I'm certainly glad to have been around in the 70's.

Did anyone give even the smallest toss back in the 1970s? The state of the railways in Britain after Beeching and Marples had finished with it was absolutely deplorable. If only mass investment had happened in the 1960s instead of shutting down around half the network we'd have the best rail network in the world!

Thanks for posting this video. I do have to point out a few errors, however. At 2:15, the DMU is heading eastbound from Leeds to Selby. The blind is therefore correct. At 2:22, the Class 47 is heading westbound towards Leeds, and therefore it can’t be a Liverpool to Newcastle service. At 3:41, the service is heading towards Leeds, and can’t therefore be a Leeds-Bradford-Manchester train.

0:09 I can confirm that the "Peak" No 76 on 1S68 is indeed on a service to Glasgow - it is on the "Thames-Clyde Express" which ceased running in 1976.

Thanks for that - I wasn't able to check the headcode on-line as that's very hit and miss, depending on enthusiasts' groups uploading them. I guessed from the direction the train was facing, with the Dragonara in the background, that it must have been going via Settle.

@@Clivestravelandtrains Yes - the removal of the "Thames-Clyde Express" was the first nail in the coffin for BR's intended closure of the Settle-Carlisle Line - a closure which, thankfully, never took place.

Thanks for posting this. I remember Deltics from my childhood. Got to say the music choice could have been better though and the railway looked grim back in those days.

Thanks for your comment. I will compile a selection of Deltic pictures one day. Regarding the music, it is on reflection a bit spooky, but you can turn the volume off. I am thinking to posting my next selection of pictures with no music or sound at all, to see what the reaction is! The railways did seem grim in the 1970's - lack of investment after nationalisation of a clapped-out war-torn netowrk in 1948 was still more than evident.

Thanks for your comment. I admit this particular sound track is not the best one I have used, but I am learning as I go along. Once I have uploaded a video I don't think it's possible to change the sound track. I have done music, silence, my voice, natural sounds - and that's always the part of my videos I agonise over the most. I'm glad you found the mute button though - some people don't!
