Such a great area(s) to see continuous trains with a wide variety of motive power, been to all the areas of Dolton in a one week period and photographed enough to fill 2 CD's.Dolton is one of my favorite areas. Sol: I've seen cow-and-calf lashups, a cabless unit called a slug, but this is my first goat. What's the difference? Does the goat have anything more than traction drives? What sort of control circuitry does it have? Or are all controls in the "mother" unit? Sorry for the mess of questions. Thanks in advance.

My wife managed a funeral home in that area. We're both licensed. I did calls for that firm. Sometimes, funeral procession s were held up because of the trains. I still enjoy train watching.

Blue Island sees traffic mostly from CSX and NS then IHB and ISIS being the least but one of the railways i believe is the same in Dolton, same tracks

it is a dummy they usually use them just for the extra traction because they do have 4 traction motors but no diesel engine

I'm guessing that CSX traffic is the line that goes through Fostoria, OH....arguably the busiest line in Ohio. Great video!

Those aren't tank cars those are Torpedo or called "bottle" Hot metal cars used to carry molten steel.

David Barnett Oh anytime always glad to help. I understand and indeed I understand why you asked if it was. I have those cars in my collection and I live not to far from a Steel Mill. The cars in this video are 200 ton cars. I am pretty sure they are 200 tons. They are used to carry the molten steel to the Riverdale Basic Oxygen furnace plant. They are called Treadwell Riverdale cars. I have a tape with these cars before they got the red painted ends in Conrail days. :-)

my home town always nice to go home, sat at that spot off park st. many an hour, the large building by the water was a school around 1910. They had to close it because of all the train traffic and whistles

I have been there twice and both times I never had to wait more than ten minutes for a train to come by. For a safe and great spot to watch there is a parking lot in front of the police station. Defiantly go if you get the chance!

This is a very busy intersection, don’t ever get caught in this train traffic, because if you got to be somewhere, you are going to be late or miss your appointment, I have been in this area before and didn’t know what to do, until I called my friends and they said to go around.

But be ever mindful...Indiana Harbor Belt, and CSX/UP Police are always SOMEWHERE! Usually in unmarked vehicles...but I've met many that are nice and they just want you to be aware of your safety!

Railfans are generally well tolerated here as long as you DO NOT TRESSPASS. Stay in the police station parking lot or elsewhere on public property and you will be fine. There is a lot of railroad employee activity in this area.

4004 is a rebuilt sd40-3 that was built from a sd40-2 and all of CSX's sd40-2's are now sd40-3's
